The May 2017 report to the New York City Campaign Finance Board will be point to the directions all the City Council campaigns in the 43rd Council District will be headed going into petitioning
I was at Bob Capano's Casa Calamari event last night --- it appeared to be a modest success --- several Republican State Committee members (GOP District Leaders) were in the house --- John Catsimatidis was a late scratch --- Craig Eaton laid out the path ahead, which included Bob Capano's Campaign for City Council and so much more.....
Last week, I laid out a few necessary benchmarks for Bob Capano's campaign going forward.....
So far, so good. Last night's political get-together for Bob Capano showed that he could fill the rather small venue with what looked like a nice little crowd in the 40-to-50 range; and that Capano could pick a place and have a generous proprietor who personally helped pass out the tasty food and appropriate drink in comfortable surroundings that worked well with the event format. One of the funny moments of the evening happened when Justin Brannan walked by on Third Avenue with some friends --- Brannan waved in at the Capano folks and several of us waved back.
From here on in, it gets very technical very fast.
The May disclosures to the finance board are a key barometer of what to expect going forward; and all of the campaigns will be judged on the numbers that are reflected in the May NYCCFB reports.
Campaign structures and organization will need to run effective petitioning campaigns. At least two GOP district leaders told Bob Capano and Craig Eaton that they needed to have Bob Capano's name on a single petition with all of the other county- and city-wide candidates included, with the names of State Committee candidates for each AD, along with spaces for County Committee in each ED.
Bob cannot include his name on a petition for the county and citywide candidates without the express permission of each of those other candidates.
ReplyDeleteBobs fundraiser was not a "modest success". Take away the free tickets to district leaders looking for free food and you have nothing.
ReplyDeleteIf Bob is going to spread a rumor about bigshots coming to his fundraiser he may want to consider dropping bigger names like Scott Baio or Tottie Fields.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "WHEELS HAVEN'T COME OFF YET" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:29 AM"; "... AT 10:05 AM"; & "... AT 10:47 AM"
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR CAREFULLY THOUGHT OUT AND WELL-SAID OBSERVATIONS --- CERTAINLY, AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE COMMENTS WAS FROM "CAPTAIN OBVIOUS" ON TV
BOBBY C hasn't delivered any "knock-out" blows and he certainly hasn't shown anybody a campaign that will "blow out" the opposition --- both of those were part of Bob's earlier narrative(s) on how things were or would be in 2017.
Overall, "disappointing" is the word that most often comes to my mind. But, what do I know about it ??? Candidates have been blowing smoke up my ... for a very long time; and very often I felt the special tickle you know where; and as a result, I believed them..... Such is the lament of all of us political sluts.
Also a lament of sluts of all kinds is that you can't sell anything that you are more than willing to give away, right away. That's why whores can always beat sluts, both in poker and in life.
As if any candidate wants to be on capanos petition.
ReplyDeleteYou amuse me gail
somebody (justin) keeps posting comments on blogs that abbate is not endorsing vince chirico.
ReplyDeleteis abbate endorsing justin?
Abbate knows exactly what is good for him.
ReplyDeleteGolly Gee Whiz !!!
ReplyDeleteI thought all the politicians like Abbate would look to get in on the ground floor of Justins sure thing
So much for Eaton's GOP Coalition unity. Lucretia just filed a campaign committee for council against Bob, Liam And Q with the Campaign Finance Board.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 1042 am, you are really clueless. They were never part of the GOP Coalition anyway. The GOP Coalition was formed by Dany Esquilen when he and Arnaldo couldnt get along, because nobody can get along with Arnaldo for more then.......a few hours.
ReplyDeleteAt Bob's event the other night, I spoke to someone who stated that Eaton hasnt heard from Lucretia or Arnaldo in many many months.
John Quaglione fundraiser was a success at the Mano with dozens of guests paying a good ticket price. McCabe's event at Dorian's was a success with many guests and an energized crowd. Bob Capano's event was about as successful as you would expect from a candidate for the City Council from Bay Ridge who lives on Staten Island
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 4:53, your mother wears army boots.
ReplyDeleteJust a month ago, Eaton and Esquilin were bragging about how the Golden forces were divided between McCabe and Quaglione, while all the anti-Marty forces were united behind Staten Island Bob. Now Lucretia has split the anti-Marty forces between her and Bob.
And your mother's feet smell too.
Big goings on tonight with Justins failing campaign. His own club endorsed him.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: THE "SHOW TUNES" EDITION
ReplyDelete"A FEW MORE HOURS --- THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE'VE GOT --- A FEW MORE HOURS..."
Nobody in this field of GOP candidates is getting married in the morning (unless Christine and the "Boyfriend" decide that it's time... But what are the "Chances" [not a "show tune"]).
Nonetheless, big doin's vis a vis a key NYCFCB filing....
I just opened an E-mail from one of the candidates channeling "Oliver" --- "Please sir, can I have some more...."
I hope that's enough to give the flavor of the latest "deadline" in the sand (not "Loveletters in the Sand" (not a "show tune").
I close by prescribing, even admonishing, you all to think of Sinatra doing the Nelson Riddle arrangement of Cole Porter's opening phrases for his great show tune "Night and Day" --- I think I'll put on the headphones and it pull it up on you tube, right now.....
"Like the beat, beat, beat of the tom tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick, tick, tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip, drip, drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower's through..."
On another note, Gale, I hear there is some "scorched earth out there". Kassar is off his meds and is now making threats around NYC that whatever County Chairs dont endorse Nicole will face a challenge for their County Chair seats.
ReplyDeleteFirst stop, Bob Turner - and he has even boldly dropped Jim McLellands name as a candidate for Queens County Chair.
Next would be the Bronx and then who knows.
Not a smart move in my opinion looking to make wars with the GOPers in NYC.
But then again, Kassar has the keys to Nicole's campaign and it really is all about the $$ for Kassar, isnt it?
4:05 is full of it. No one is threatening anyone over the Republican line for Mayor.
ReplyDeleteActually it has become the worst kept secret around that JK is on an insane power trip now that his puppet Nicole is running for Mayor against barely there Massey. He has been talking loud and saying stupid things about the people he's gonna destroy, the list is long, and it increasingly looks like his insane ego trip is Massey's only hope of winning this thing.
ReplyDeleteGail, it could be that you don't care if Craig Eaton is using your blog for HIS own purposes, but most of your (other) "regular contributors" do care ( and I, for one, remember when this was supposed to be "OUR" blog).
ReplyDeleteI know YOU ASKED CRAIG EATON WHO THREW EL-YATEEM OUT OF THE BR MANOR BEFORE THE REPUBLICAN DEBATE, AND EATON DIDN'T REALLY ANSWER YOU. Maybe, you didn't think any more about it, but I did.
I did a little more digging into it, and I know now that CRAIG EATON IS TELLING OTHER PEOPLE THAT HE THREW EL-YATEEM OUT OF THE REPUBLICAN DEBATE.
Gale, I didnt know someone "owned" your Blog. And I am unsure how anyone could possibly pretend to know who posts on your Blog?
ReplyDeleteAs for the comment above at 836am, stop making up stories. Eaton is very good friends with the Pastor and in fact I was at his home in LBI last Summer when the Pastor and his family were there also. Why would he throw out a friend, a member of the clergy and a candidate from a public debate?
Please be factual and truthful.
Anonymous at 405 is 100% correct.
ReplyDeleteKassar is all about the money and should be investigated for his crooked ways. Cha Ching for the Conservative Party. All he cares about is jobs for his losers and money for his Party of 5 people. Look at the pathetic group of people in his party. One is a bigger loser than the next. And all on the public dime:
Kassar
Fran Veller
Liam
David Ryan
All the bigshots in the Bklyn Cons Party all on the public dime - for their lifetimes.
Now this is the truth.
Kassar, as the Col said in A Few Good Men. "You cant handle the truth".
I keep hearing Kassar will either try and push Liam out or cut off his support. Either way Kassar will endorse John Q in a deal to get Marty to endorse Nicole for Mayor. Poor Liam. But this is what happens in the Big Leagues. We hardly knew ya, Liam
ReplyDeleteLiam will get over 67% in the primary
ReplyDeleteKassar is a bad guy. Everybody is starting to realize it. Even the people in Golden's office know what a sleezbag he really is. They all talk behind his back, but suck up to him because he is their boss.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of Karma here..karma baby is good.
Golden and Kassar will come out on top like they always do. They have mastered playing all sides of a contest like a fiddle. Anyone who actually trusts either of them deserves what they get and that goes for John, Liam, and Nicole. They thrive on chaos and division. Ted Ghorra needs to man up.
ReplyDeleteTed Ghorra's toupee is going to need some extra glue after this is all over. Kassar and Marty will unite behind Nicole and John Q. Liam, Capano and Massey will be lucky if they're mentioned in the footnotes of history.
ReplyDeleteTo 12:39, you mean just like Marty and Jerry united behind Nicole in 2015 against Donovan? Laughable. They will sell her down the river again for the right price just like when she was telling people they were behind her in 2015 while making the deal with Danny Donovan. As for the city council candidates if they are smart they will get together and draw straws to come up with one candidate to support. Even that method is better than going through the auction process at Golden-Kassar Inc.
ReplyDeleteGail, as you can see it's me again.
ReplyDeleteWhat I see here on 'our blog' is that Craig Eaton must be having a really slow law day today in his office, home or wherever he is hanging out, because he is commenting, commenting and commenting here at a fever pitch.
It looks like Craig wants everybody to think that somebody else is defending him, #fake news. Does anybody believe that anyone other than Eaton and El Yateem was down at Eaton's LBI getaway, and that the same anyone would also post an anonymous comment here to defend Eaton.
Who in the world might that 'other' person be? The simplest answer is that it is one of Eaton's imaginary friends, all of who's initials are all 'CE'.
Golden and Kassar will cut a deal to support Malliotakis for mayor. Part of the deal will be giving John Q the Conservative Line along with the full-throated support of Kassar and his team. Fran already hates Liam so this deal is as good as done. Put it in the books, folks !
ReplyDeleteCraig Eaton is done, he is even MIA from Capanos campaign
ReplyDeleteEven someone like Nicole who is dimmer than an expired light bulb must know that Golden and Kassar will sell her out again.
ReplyDeleteTo 2:40. What deal? Jerry bragging to everyone he's in total control of campaign. Maybe he's not in so much control and this is just another squeeze play on gullible Malliotakis. Massey is way too savvy to play these two bit hustles that Golden and Kassar have been putting on every candidate since the late 90's.
ReplyDelete2:40 watches to much TV. Bad TV.
ReplyDeleteIf the conservatives pull a fast one and endorsing a proven loser like Q then Liam will take line in a write in.
John Q Will have the republican and conservative line.. Ghorra will be unanimously re elected chair.
ReplyDeleteEaton and Co. will not embarass themselves further by carrying any losing petitions. .game over..
Liam = loser
ReplyDeleteJohn Q = Republican/Conservative nominee
Kassar will shake down Malliotakis for every one of his lackeys. Golden will ream Q for all the consultant fees his cronies can generate while Liam stays above the fray and cruises to victory. Massey wins the Primary easy while Kassar says he supported him behind the scenes the whole time. Sound familiar?
ReplyDeleteCome on people, you think ole Jerry and Marty are gonna let an election season pass without making bank? Some unsuspecting suckers going down hard.
ReplyDeleteThis is very funny. History always repeats itself when you have snakes like Kassar and Golden. Just like the Grimm-Allegretti race.
ReplyDeleteGolden says Jerry you support this candidate, I will support the other candidate and then we lie, cheat and steal, collect allllll the $$$$ (which is all the Conservatives really care about anyway) and then we tell the winner, wink, wink, we were both behind you the whole time.
Sound familiar? Sound like what they are doing now with Nicole and Massey? Jerry with Nicole. Golden with Massey.....
Sound like what they are doing with Q and Liam?
Read between the lines my friends.
They are, as they say, thick as thieves. And leopards dont change their stripes.
And poor little Ghorra, he just gets told what to do, what to say, who to support and he toes the line.
What a shame what the GOP in the Country, State, City and County have turned into.
Good points by poster at 7:26, they played the same game with Dan Donovan and made sure that he rehired every single conservative crony for the Brooklyn Office, didn't rehire a single person for Staten Island office but everybody in Brooklyn rehired promptly. Nicole would ask how high if Jerry told her to jump off a bridge but I think Massey is going to tell Marty to shove it and win Brooklyn on his own, he didn't make hundreds of millions in Real Estate by not being able to tell the difference between a good opportunity and a shakedown.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "SO MANY COMMENTS, SO LITTLE REAL INFORMATION" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:36 AM" & WHOMEVER OTHER COMMENTERS IT MIGHT CONCERN
There's been a lot of chit-chat here since I last posted on this thread..... However, I'm afraid that there has been more BS than usual in some or all of it.
One item has particularly bothered at least one reader, who actually called me and provided us all with an alternative scenario to the one recounted above by "... at 8:36 AM".
After some quite motivated digging by one of my more-bothered followers, a new version of events at the early stages of the GOP debate has emerged. According to my voluble volunteer, it was none-other than one, Tim Cochrane, that made all the moves necessary to effectuate the removal of the Reverend Democrat Candidate and his entourage from the Republican Debate at the Bay Ridge Manor last week.
Are there any other opinions out there as to how all this went down ???
UPDATE: THE "CAPANO GETS HIS ROUND OF COVERAGE" EDITION
ReplyDeleteA BOB CAPANO "PROFILE" PIECE APPEARS ON-LINE IN "KINGS COUNTY POLITICS"
According to Kadia Goba's piece in "Kings County Politics" --- "Bob Capano, one of three Republican candidates battling for the City Council seat of District 43, sat near a window at the Narrows Coffee Shop – his usual Wednesday morning hangout –– and mulled over a recent conversation he had with a small business owner.... 'He said he’s going to have to shut down his small pizzeria on Fort Hamilton Parkway because it’s just too expensive with the constant city fines, permits and regulations,' said Capano, an ardent small-business supporter and manager working with the local Gristede’s supermarket chain.... Capano said the constant regulation of small businesses is killing a lot of the mom and pop shops that make up much of the commercial portion of the district, which includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and parts of Bensonhurst and Bath Beach. This is an area, where Capano said his experience in the private-sector gives him a distinct advantage over his other Republican candidates – Liam McCabe and John Quaglione...." (See "43rd District City Council Race: Capano Talks Issues At Narrows Coffee Shop" by Kadia Coba, 5/12/17, Kings County Politics [http://www.kingscountypolitics.com/43rd-district-city-council-race-capano-talks-issues-narrows-bridge-]).
Tim Cochrane - he is alive!!!!
ReplyDeleteCapano should unendorse Malliotakis and go with Massey. Massey is not a fool to fall for Golden's promises in exchange for a super expensive operation.
ReplyDeleteGale,
ReplyDeleteKindly remove the foul language in comment 6:58.
I don't feel that children should get the impression that such language is acceptable.
Martha S
Kassar and Golden have been running this con for so long and so often that by now you'd think there'd be no one left to fall for it. Obviously plenty of suckers still out there.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "CONTEMPORARY IDIOM" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 11:44 AM" & "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:00 PM"
MARTHA S, PERHAPS YOU MISUNDERSTOOD --- I DON'T THINK THAT "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 6:58 AM" ACTUALLY INTENDED THAT YOU LITERALLY GO OUT AND "FUCK THESE STORE OWNERS...." --- AND I DON'T THINK THAT's WHAT ANYBODY THOUGHT WAS WHAT "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 6:58 AM" MEANT AT ALL
ON THE OTHER HAND --- "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:00 PM" --- YOU GO TOO FAR --- "FUCK THE KIDS..." --- SERIOUSLY ??? I MEAN, "S E R I O U S L Y ! ! !"
The contemporary idiom fully accepts the word "fuck" in lots of meanings and contexts. What "Anonymous said... at 6:58 AM" wrote is pretty straight forward and unambiguous. In that comment, the word "Fuck" is almost certainly intended to convey a generalized negative act to the detriment of the object of the statement, "...Store owners "; and it does NOT apparently denote, connote, or even remotely reflect, any physical act of sexual intercourse or deviant sexual intercourse whatsoever.
"Fuck the kids..." >>> HAS NO ACCEPTABLE MEANING OR CONTEXT <<< even for the old folks complaining about their property tax increases for better schools.....
Hey, Gail, is 'Joey B' Joey Boombahts, Vinny's brother? It sure sounds like him.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification Gale, now back to the fact that Kassar and Golden are about to F everyone in county all over again.
ReplyDeleteI think Joey B is Joey Buttafucco
ReplyDeleteI guess we will see with the petitioning process if Eaton and the anti Ghorra/Golden faction will make one last stand against Marty G or if he and they will continue to go quietly into the good night as expected.
ReplyDeleteThe last things Golden's overseers Mike Long and Jerry Kassar, want to see is unity in the GOP, they would finance warring factions themselves if necessary. This is all part of the Conservative obsession with ending the Brooklyn GOP existence or at the very least making it the third party in Brooklyn much smaller than the conservatives, Golden only talking about endorsing Massey so Kassar can scare Malliotakis from reaching out to all Brooklyn groups specifically the ones they don't like.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest lie I heard since Liam and his grand-dad by the olde railroad tracks
ReplyDeleteTo 3:06, not sure what lie you heard since this is a print blog, but almost everyone can read the writing on the wall that the conservatives are cashing in suckering all takers. Ghorra better act fast or he'll be known as the last Brooklyn GOP chair.
ReplyDeleteGhorra is a nice guy, but he has no clue what people are saying about him. The people in the campaigns, the candidates, the State Committee Members. They all say the samr thing, nice guy but NOT the Chairman. The Puppet.
ReplyDeleteTed Ghorra is meeting with his district leaders next week and show all what a field operation really look like
ReplyDeleteGrassroots Republican activists overwhelmingly favor Malliotakis. Any other outcome by Ted Ghorra team will officially confirm accusation of being Marty and Jerry's puppet.
ReplyDeleteIS there a reason we are all ignoring the REAL elephant in the room? There is now a FOURTH candidate on the Republican side gunning for the nomination in the 43rd Council District and that is none other than Lucretia Regina-Potter
ReplyDeleteLucretia no one cares about your fifitieth future failed political campaign.
ReplyDeleteIsn't her name pronounced Excretia?
ReplyDeleteNicole Malliotakis will easily secure the support of the Brooklyn GOP whether she makes a deal with Marry Golden or not.
ReplyDeleteWho was the guy who got sprayed down with a hose by an angry homeowner when petitioning for Marty last year? Is he running too?
ReplyDeleteTo 2:31 this will be nothing compared to the hosing that any candidate seeking Marty's support will get.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget I am still hearing that Fran Vella might throw her hat in the ring at the last minute to stop the fight over the Conservative Line.
ReplyDeleteMccabe raised $4,000 this period and spent $14,000
ReplyDeleteI heard that the Brooklyn GOP is meeting tonight to vote on the Mayor's race.
ReplyDeleteI am betting that they go with Massey because I hear Golden is going to endorse Massey and if that is the case, well, then you know which way Ghorra will go.
This is all very sad. Massey is a really nice guy, but has not gained any traction. Has not raised enough money and cannot beat the Mayor. Clearly, this was a signal, a message, an almost desperate call for someone else to run.
AND it happened. Nicole Mallitakes decided to run and she is a breath of fresh air. A Cuban Greek Woman who is a two term elected who can shake things up.
Yet Golden, her friend, may not endorse her, and the Brooklyn County Org may not endorse her. What an absolute disgrace.
This really would tell you the kind of people Golden and Ghorra are.
No loyalty - no integrity. Nothing
While people may rush to pity Nicole, remember she has been close friends and allies with the Golden regime and has trashed many loyal supporters to maintain his good graces, now she's on the other end but I don't feel sorry for her one bit.
ReplyDeleteLiam is also the first (and so far, only) candidate to do a district-wide mailing to Republicans, the first (and so far, only) to campaign extensively at subway stops, and the first (and so far, only) to hold a forum with Republican voters.
ReplyDeleteWait till Quagliones mailings come out..they will destroy McCabe and Capano. .they wont show their faces again
ReplyDeleteIt's May and it's all over, and Liam McCabe will be the Republican nominee for City Council.
ReplyDeleteIf you go by GOP fundraising it's a two-person race, McCabe and Quaglione. If you're an analyst that fully values the ethnocentric pull of all the GOP candidates, it's a one man race, and that man is Liam McCabe. Johnny Quags will need every penny of his campaign bank to to even stay competitive, only by pounding down the spoiler votes going to Bob Capano and Lucretia Regina-Potter.
With this last filing Marty Golden demonstrated that he is all in with Q.
ReplyDeleteGame over for Liam
Who's doing Quaglione's mail? He's doing a good job of destroying himself if the debate is any indication.
ReplyDeleteQ was the only pro with the experience
ReplyDeleteTurner is the condom Koch left up Cox
ReplyDelete
