How to sell a contradiction
He comes and goes
He came and went

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "NEW STAR OF FOX NEWS '...APPLAUDS'" EDITION
ReplyDeleteLAST NIGHT TUCKER CARLSON APPLAUDED PRESIDENT TRUMP'S FIRING OF FBI DIRECTOR COMEY
Tucker thinks that President Trump should have fired James Comey a long time ago; and he said that he "applauded" the firing yesterday.
If Tucker likes it, then so do I.....
Trump firing Comey was the biggest move yet in 'DRAINING THE SWAMP' in Washington. Comey was part of the disease not part of the cure.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "SOMETIMES THE NY POST IS JUST SO RIGHT" EDITION
ReplyDelete"IT WAS ALREADY PAST TIME FOR COMEY TO GO.... UNDOUBTEDLY [TRUMP MADE] THE RIGHT CALL" --- NY POST EDITORIAL, 5/9/17
Here's how the Post Editorial Board sees things vis a vis Trump and Comey: ".... President Trump’s decision Tuesday to fire FBI Director James Comey took Washington by surprise — but was likely inevitable. Comey had lost the trust of Democrats and Republicans alike.... The announcement came just hours after the FBI notified Congress that the director’s Senate testimony last week got key facts badly wrong about the Hillary Clinton e-mails that wound up on Anthony Weiner’s computer via his wife, Huma Abedin.... And that capped months of Comey actions that infuriated one party or the other. Many Democrats think his decision to “go public” on the Weiner e-mails cost Hillary Clinton the election.... Officially, Comey was fired for his July public statement recommending that no criminal charges be brought against Clinton or anyone else over her e-mail mess.... That, said Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in a letter to Trump, 'usurp[ed] the authority' of then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch — though Lynch’s conflict of interest after her tarmac tête-à-tête with Bill Clinton had prompted Comey to do it in the first place.... He also blasted Comey for describing Clinton’s handling of her private server as “extremely careless.” Said Rosenstein: 'We do not hold press conferences to release derogatory information about the subject of a declined criminal investigation.'... Which is why Attorney General Jeff Sessions concluded 'a fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI.'... Comey explained his reasons for each move, and they seemed well-intended. But each decision sparked resentment and frustration — doing, per Rosenstein, “substantial damage” to the FBI’s credibility.... It’s a sad ending to the career of a dedicated public servant, but undoubtedly the right call...." UPDATE: THE "ANOTHER PRECINCT HEARD FROM" EDITION
ReplyDeletePRESIDENT TRUMP GETS FULL-FLEDGED SUPPORT FROM SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE RYAN FOR TRUMP'S FIRING OF FBI DIRECTOR COMEY
Paul Ryan was just interviewed by Fox News' host and commentator Bret Baier. In that interview, Paul Ryan pretty much gave President Trump his full-throated support in the flap over dismissing James Comey.
Ryan said that Comey had lost the confidence of both Republicans and Democrats. Sound familiar ? ? ?
BACKFILL; THE "TALLY OF LEADING REPUBLICANS BACKING TRUMP'S FIRING OF COMEY" EDITION
ReplyDeleteFAKE NEWS --- THAT THERE IS WIDESPREAD GOP OPPOSITION TO TRUMP'S FIRING OF COMEY
NOT TO PUT TOO FINE A POINT ON IT, BUT THE NATION'S TOP GOVERNMENTAL LEADERS --- ALL REPUBLICAN, BECAUSE THE GOP CONTROLS THE PRESIDENCY AND BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS --- ALL SUPPORT DONALD TRUMP'S ACTION IN REPLACING FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY
THE LATEST TALLY INCLUDES THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. MIKE PENCE, THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE PAUL RYAN AND THE MAJORITY LEADER OF THE SENATE MITCH MC CONNELL
The hypocritical Democrats and their hyperventilating minions in the mainstream media would have you believe that there is widespread bi-partisan opposition to Trump's latest proper exercise of his Constitutional Executive authority. However, that narrative is "fake news."
UPDATE: THE "DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP SHOWS THAT THE UPROAR ABOUT COMEY'S FIRING IS JUST POLITICS" EDITION
ReplyDeleteIF TODAY'S TOP DEMOCRATS WERE IN CHARGE DURING "WATERGATE" --- NIXON WOULD HAVE STAYED ON AS PRESIDENT AND SERVED OUT HIS TERM
TODAY'S DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN SO IMPATIENT AND INTEMPERATE IN THEIR TRUMP-RUSSIA COLLUSION RHETORIC AND BEHAVIOR THAT ALL OF IT SEEMS COMPLETELY PARTISAN --- FOR EXAMPLE: YESTERDAY DNC CHAIRMAN TOM PEREZ WAS DEMONSTRATING WITH ANTI-TRUMP PROTESTERS OUTSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE
Nixon always thought everything that was coming at him during the Watergate scandal was primarily a Democrat political attack on him. Several leading Republicans, the assistance of the mainstream press and a Democrat slow-walk of the entire process, patiently waiting for the pieces to fall into place, kept Nixon's belief and occasional public statements that it was all politics from gaining any traction.
The events of the last few days show that today's Democrats just can't get their act together like the Dems and anti-Nixon Republicans in the early-to mid 70s.
Here's some proof of how tone-deaf and hyper-political today's Democrats are: according to Breitbart News, "Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez joined protesters outside the White House, as liberals gathered to protest President Donald Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.... 'Mr. President, history has its eyes on you, and history is not judging you kindly,' Perez shouted as a few dozen protesters chanted and waved signs.... 'This is absolutely worse than the Saturday night massacre,” he yelled, referring to Nixon’s decision to fire the Watergate special prosecutor. In response, the crowd shouted, “Worse! Worse! Worse!'... He called for members of Congress to oppose confirmation of a new FBI director without first appointing a special prosecutor...." (See "DNC Chair Tom Perez Joins Protesters Defending James Comey at the White House" by Charlie Spiering, 5/10/17, Breitbart News/ Big Government [http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/05/10/dnc-chair-tom-perez-joins-pro-comey-protest-at-the-white-house/]).
What makes this even more problematic for the Democrats is the fact that the very same "talking points" were being made by people like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Connecticut Senator Dick Blumenthal; and their remarks were being widely and repeatedly reported by the mainstream media.
VERY IMPORTANT BACKFILL & MY OPINION ABOUT IT: THE "NEW YORK TIMES' TAKE ON THE COMEY FIRING" EDITION
ReplyDeleteAccording to the New York Times, “…. After President Trump accused his predecessor in March of wiretapping him, James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, was flabbergasted. The president, Mr. Comey told associates, was ‘outside the realm of normal,’ even ‘crazy.’… For his part, Mr. Trump fumed when Mr. Comey publicly dismissed the sensational wiretapping claim. In the weeks that followed, he grew angrier and began talking about firing Mr. Comey. After stewing last weekend while watching Sunday talk shows at his New Jersey golf resort, Mr. Trump decided it was time. There was ‘something wrong with’ Mr. Comey, he told aides…. The collision between president and F.B.I. director that culminated with Mr. Comey’s stunning dismissal on Tuesday had been a long time coming. To a president obsessed with loyalty, Mr. Comey was a rogue operator who could not be trusted as the F.B.I. investigated Russian ties to Mr. Trump’s campaign. To a lawman obsessed with independence, Mr. Trump was the ultimate loose cannon, making irresponsible claims on Twitter and jeopardizing the bureau’s credibility…. The White House, in a series of shifting and contradictory accounts, first said Mr. Trump decided to fire Mr. Comey because the attorney general and his deputy recommended it. By Wednesday, it had amended the timeline to say that the president had actually been thinking about getting rid of the F.B.I. director as far back as November, after he won the election, and then became ‘strongly inclined’ after Mr. Comey testified before Congress last week….” (See “ ‘Enough Was Enough’: How Festering Anger at Comey Ended in His Firing” by Maggie Haberman, Glenn Thrush, Michael S. Schmidt & Peter Baker, 5/10/17, NY Times/Politics [https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/us/politics/how-trump-decided-to-fire-james-comey.html?_r=0]).
It seems to me that the NY Times has outlined some very solid reasons for a POTUS to can a problematic FBI Director. Or, to put it another way, President Trump had all the authority necessary to fire Comey and many good reasons to do so.
