LIAM MC CABE STILL HAS A VERY CONFUSED MESSAGE
LIAM MC CABE: “I WROTE A FEW WORDS --- I THOUGHT --- DREAMS AND PHANTASIES --- A VERY DARK PLACE --- NOT THE NEIGHBORHOOD I [REMEMBER]…..”
LIAM MC CABE ANNOUNCED THAT HE’S A CANDIDATE AFTER
SAYING --- “I’VE SEEN SOME VERY DARK TIMES ---
I’VE OVERCOME MY PROBLEMS” --- HE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED "ALCOHOLISM"; BUT HE HELD HIS BIG ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE LIEF TAVERN
Will/Liam McCabe delivered a very enthusiastic but rambling
speech to announce his candidacy for the City Council last night at The Lief at
Fifth Avenue near Senator Street in Bay Ridge.
In a rather large gathering for the small back room at a Bay
Ridge bar, McCabe delivered a very
unconventional announcement speech ---
in fact, it was something that sounded more like an AA testimonial than
a political speech.
After his confessorial opening that left lots of unanswered
questions about Liam McCabe and his demons (N.B. --- the actual details of many of those demons are a story for another post),
the CANDIDATE launched into an extended rant against Mayor deBlasio that
made both Bay Ridge and NYC sound like “The Black Hole of Calcutta.” In passing, he mentioned that “Earlier today
I heard somebody might be coming into the race”
--- and then he mentioned
“Hillary Clinton” --- I KID YOU NOT !!!
What do you expect from an AA—TYPE MEETING HELD AT A
BAR….. Talk about confused and mixed
messages…..
P.S.
I've looked at the McCabe video from last night's gala a few times since I wrote the text above. The repetition of his impassioned announcement speech made the point of his bombastic exposition less clear to me with each showing. I've settled on this well-said description of it all --- It was a bunch of "... sound and fury signifying nothing."
Is Mr. McCabe's first run for office something that a therapist told him to do?
ReplyDeleteHe made a mistake announcing he is an alcoholic just weeks before going to a bar to announce he wants to be our Councilman. WTF was he thinking?
ReplyDeleteGail, Baby, you dismissed Liam's crowd as "... a rather large gathering for the small back room at a Bay Ridge bar...." I TOLD YOU that there were HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THERE and that I had to push past the crowd starting at the front door of The Lief. I also told you that I've been to lots of "political" things at that location, and Liam's was by far the biggest.
ReplyDeleteThe Kings County Politics coverage of John Quaglione and Liam McCabe's announcements on Thursday shows that, without spending a dime or waking every groundhog he knew out of its burrow, or moving all his friends off their park benches with promises of free food and drink, John Quaglione was able to step all over Liam McCabe's very big all hands on deck announcement.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing certain is that John Q and his advisers will make this the filthiest local primary fight in modern history and that Q will still place a distant third.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "OBVIOUSLY OBVIOUS OBSERVATION" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: WHOMEVER IT MIGHT CONCERN ABOVE --- AND EVERYBODY, EVERYWHERE ELSE
There have been many Triple Crown horse races with fewer entries than this year’s sweepstakes for Vincent Gentile’s seat in the City Council. With the two announcements on Thursday, the Republican candidates now number three: John Quaglione, Liam McCabe and Bob Capano.
On the other side of the aisle, even more Democrats have showed more than a little interest in making the run. They include Bay Ridge activist and City Hall operator Justin Brannan, Democratic District Leader Nancy Tong, Reverend Khader El-Yateem, Democratic District Leader Kevin Peter Carroll, current Member of the Assembly Peter Abbate, and of course, the all-ends, speak out on everything local and national extremist activist Linda Sarsour, who also had been mentioned a few times as a local candidate.
All of the above have been reported to be "considering" and/or running for their parties’ nominations. That’s nine people so far; and such large fields can sometimes attract even more from the “why not” crowd.
Very creative Gale. Instead of reporting fake news you decided to report fake interpretations.
ReplyDelete1- The back room at the Leif is not small. It is a large room that can hold 250 people, but, since I was there I can report the room was packed with over 400 people with crowd spilling out into the street.
2- McCabe gave an outstanding speech explaining that serving Bay Ridge "is my calling".The speech was great.
3- The only thing Quag "stepped all over" was a pile of dog shit in a bus stop for a picture on facebook. How many people attended Quags fundraiser in his pathetic run last time? 15 or was it 20 losers.
4- The fact that McCabe quit drinking but can socialize at a Bar just demonstrates what kind of discipline he has.
5- Its obvious you are a Capano supporter, but, thats understandable. You both spend all your time sitting in front of a computer eating Borsht instead explaining to others why you cant find a good personal trainer.
All this commenter could think about on Thursday morning was how goddamned awkward it must have been around the watercooler at 7408 5th Avenue. Master Q was clearly trying to spoil McCabe's day in the sun and he was successful in that mission.
ReplyDeleteMcCabe's recent op-ed where he detailed the two decades he spent terrifying neighbors and brawling at various local watering holes while working on his gin blossom, was contrived, ill-advised and poorly-timed (has he never read Frank Luntz ?!) Any PR professional worth their wait in salt will tell you if you're trying to clean up your act and have a public rebirth, you should do it over time -- meaning years not weeks. You don't spill your beans in a maudlin op-ed and a few short weeks later announce that you're gunning for a job where taxpayers sign your checks.
I will say this: the smart money is on Master Q but I don't see how an all-out war doesn't erupt over at 7408 5th Avenue before Primary Day.
Lets just look at the record:
ReplyDelete1- Capano: Lost big in 2009
2- Quagliene: Lost even bigger in 2013
3- McCabe: Never lost and starts out with hundreds of new volunteers.
thats a tough one.
The back room at The Leif Bar holds 65 people.
ReplyDeleteIf Capanos in the room then its only 65. Add Kassar and Castimides and its 3
ReplyDeleteCapano lost big time to Gentile but still did five points better than Quaglione. Other than the fact that Quaglione's only job in life has been working for Marty Golden literally right out of College, there is no other rationale for him to run. His humiliating loss to Gentile, the worst performance for a Republican in this district in modern history only emboldened the loony liberals in Bay Ridge now trying to convert this neighborhood to something resembling the Upper West Side or Williamsburg. And say what you will about Capano and McCabe but they are out in the trenches standing up for Republican ideas, while Quaglione can't say a word without consulting Golden to make sure they don't violate the latest backdoor deal they've made with the Democrats.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see who the real fighter is. If the conservative party does not endorse Capano or Quaglione they'll fold. If the conservative party does not endorse McCabe because Golden makes a deal with Abbate then its a war.
ReplyDelete10:13 is right.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah Capano will put up a real fight when Marty and Abbate make the Albany deal. The Deliverance will be clear. Picture Capano/Ned squealing like a pig
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives have already made a deal if Abbate runs. The no show jobs have already been determined and if Abbate runs, they won't actively support the Republican nominee even if it is one of their own--McCabe or Quaglione.
ReplyDeleteGale you are so on point. I've written Quagliones opener for his announcement.
ReplyDelete"My name is John Quaglione and I broke the record in the last race for being the biggest loser ever".
Capano = loser
Quaglione = Bigger loser
Gee. Should I take the risk and support McCabe?
Didn't Marty and Hynes cover up for Quaglione's relative a few years ago? Something about a baby?
ReplyDeleteMarty is as honest as the day is long.
ReplyDeleteok, so the days arent very long right now but . . .
For a Republican if there is anything funny about Quaglione's record setting loss last time, it is that they were telling everyone that they did polling showing them neck and neck. And on election night they were telling members of the local press that they were confident Quaglione had pulled out a win and were inviting everyone to the "Victory" party.
ReplyDeleteI could be crazy but looking at their social media interaction there seems to be some solidarity between mccabe and capano???
ReplyDeleteVERY ANNOYED RESPONSE: THE "CULTURAL APPROPRIATION IN THE GOP" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:57 PM"
WTF IS GOING ON WITH THE RECENT REPEATED USE OF THE WORD "SOLIDARITY" ?????
LET'S BAN THE WORD ALONG WITH ALL THE YKW
Let's leave sucky words and sucky concepts like "solidarity" to the provinces of the Far Left and much more recently, Will/Liam McCabe.
And before anybody brings up Lech Walesa, that's so 1980's; besides he used the word "Solidarność" --- feel free to use that any time you want.....
Once in a while I visit this irrelevant all male all white blog to remind myself how out of touch you people are.
ReplyDeleteThe race will be Sarsour against Tong. No republicans. No white males.
HERE'S NEWS: THE "BOB CAPANO DECLARES VICTORY" EDITION
ReplyDeleteBC: "WE WON --- WE WON"
No, it's not the race for the City Council; it's not even the GOP primary race for the City Council.....
You ask --- "What is it then, Gale ???"
Well, I'll tell you, Snaggletooth, White Fang and Snagglepuss....." Bob Capano has declared VICTORY OVER THE BAG TAX.
According to today's release by the "RELEASE MIESTER" --- The NYS Assembly has joined the NYS Senate in passing it's bill against the NYC Shopping Bag Tax.
More news on this in due course.....
Quag still thinks the illegal aliens caused him to lose by a hair
ReplyDeleteYea Gale, it was Bob and Mike Long's "crusade" that persuaded everyone. The fact that Heastie's office practically had to get a new phone line to deal with all of the complaints had nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteShopping bags. oh yeah, that's a real big deal.
ReplyDeletedoes Capanos passion for this come from bagging groceries for Castimides?
a nickel tax !!
ReplyDeletewhere does it stop !!
10:25 AM is right. The back room at The Leif Bar holds 65 people.I work for the Fire Department and I looked it up.
ReplyDeleteThat means if that room was "packed", which we all know it wasn't, we're talking *maybe* 75 people who were all there for free and didn't donate a penny.
But here's what we should really be talking about: why didn't Grand Wizard Kassar show up ? Did Marty crack the whip at the last minute ? Inquiring minds do want to know
Seems Will Mccabe is surrounding himself with the same crew of fools who were behind Andy "9/11 Hard Hat" Sullivan's campaign a few years ago and we all know how well that worked out
ReplyDeleteStop taking cheap shots at Andy Sullivan. He wound up running in a much more hostile liberal district than John with barely any money and still only did five points worse than John Q who was running in Republican heavy Bay Ridge with a huge war chest. Sullivan was supposedly running with Conservative backing until they turned on him for patronage. As for Liam getting "only 75" people compared to Q the "prolific" fundraiser, Q HAD to announce on Facebook because he could never hope to draw a comparable crowd of at least a hundred people that Liam got. The best John could hope for is Marty's staff and the 20 or so reliable slumlords currying favor with him.
ReplyDeletei say you are all nuts. Liam has less than a zero chance of winning this election and as a Conservative i will not be voting for him because he sold us out after many years of carrying our flag proudly.
ReplyDeleteOh please! Any real Conservative is enthusiastically backing Liam. The only Conservatives who won't back Liam are the ones who stand to get a piece of the action from the Democrat--the no show jobs.
ReplyDeleteEvery single republican running in 2013 lost Bay Ridge. Lhota, Hynes, and, Quag did worse than the others. Trump lost Bay Ridge.
ReplyDeleteSo, my point is the only chance we have is a new face with new energy. That man is Liam McCabe. God Bless America.
Gale, you can't stop using words like solidarity or progressive because of the left.
ReplyDeleteWords have power, and ceding them to the opposition is defeat on the installment plan.
Andy Sullivan, besides his various legal problems over the years, is dumber than a bag of hammers. If Liam is using his braintrust, Quaglione may have a shot.
ReplyDeleteTypical Quaglione brainless trust smears. The only legal problems Andy ever had were that deranged stalker from the Consevative party. He was completely exonerated in court and publicized it. It's too bad he didn't primary Q like he originally intended because he would have won and definitely gotten more than the disastrous embarrassing 34% Q managed against Gentile.
ReplyDeleteBuzz in Republcian circles is that Quaglione didnt do himself any favors by announcing same day as mcCabe and he really has no support.. Lots of folks seem happy with McCabe or Capano being the republican nominee but Quaglione has little support.
ReplyDeleteOBSERVATION: THE "MORE OF THE OBVIOUS" EDITION
ReplyDeleteYOU KNOW THE ADS WHERE CAPTAIN OBVIOUS FOOLISHLY EXPLAINS SOME GAFFE OR BLUNDER, WITHOUT CARING THAT NO EXPLANATION IS NECESSARY AND/OR NONE WILL SUFFICE AS AN EXCUSE, THEN GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT CHEAP HOTEL ROOMS
There are about 39 comments above. Everything that I've seen above, except my own gems, are like those Captain Obvious ads -- a little bit funny, but without any benefit about how to get cheap rooms somewhere and sometime.
A lot was said above, mostly about Quaglione, McCabe and Capano --- all of it can't be true, and it is equally unlikely that all of it is likely to be false, either.
Do with that whatever you like.....
»»»» The only legal problems Andy ever had were that deranged stalker from the Consevative party »»»»»»
ReplyDeleteYup and that's exactly my point. SHE is part of Liam's inner sanctum.
Liam doesn't stand a chance.
Maureen Daly is long-time firnds with McCabe
ReplyDeleteShe is friends with whoever will pay her the most. Bottom line Andy made a mistake not challenging John Q. He would have won primary and he wouldn't have gotten crushed like a grape by Gentile the way Q did.
ReplyDeleteWho is putting out this crap about Quaglione getting 34% in 2013? He got 31%.
ReplyDeleteCORRECTION: THE “MAYBE I SHOULD REMOVE LINDA SARSOUR’S NAME FROM THE LIST OF CANDIDATES” EDITION
ReplyDeleteAFTER THE ALEX VAN NESS ARTICLE IN THE BREITBART NEWS, NO FAIR-MINDED AMERICAN WOULD EVER THINK OF THE MULTI-DIRECTIONAL HATER, LINDA SARSOUR, AS ANY KIND OF DEMOCRAT OR CANDIDATE FOR PUBLIC OFFICE
ONE OF SARSOUR'S TWEETS ONCE SAID THAT IF IT WERE UP TO HER, TWO WOMEN WOULD LOSE THEIR VAGINAS --- ESPECIALLY HEINOUS AND VULGAR SINCE ONE OF THEM HAD ALREADY BEEN SEXUALLY MUTILATED AT HE HANDS OF EXTREME MUSLIMS
According to Alex VanNess writing for Breitbart News --- “Linda Sarsour is a principal organizer for Woman’s March on Washington following President Donald Trump’s inauguration…. Her rise to liberal stardom following the march has occurred in spite of her support for anti-feminist views and outrageous attacks on anti-Sharia women leaders…. Sarsour, who serves as the executive director of the Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) and who was honored by former-President Obama’s White House as a “champion of change,” seems as if she makes it a point to attach herself to every social justice cause known to man and tie it to Palestine….” (See “VanNess: Linda Sarsour, Women’s March Organizer and Fake Feminist” by Alex VanNess, 2/3/17, Breitbart News [http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2017/02/03/vanness-linda-sarsour-womens-march/]).
The VanNess article in Breitbart also highlighted this very offensive Tweet by Linda Sarsour, as follows: “In 2011, Sarsour took to twitter and vulgarly berated Hirsi Ali; and ACT for America founder, Brigitte Gabriel, and [Sarsour] said, ‘I wish I could take their vaginas away – they don’t deserve to be women.’ This is especially [ ] vulgar considering the suffering Hirsi Ali has endured. Shortly after the tweet was uncovered, instead of owning up to the vulgar tweet and apologizing, [Sarsour] tried to delete it before it was seen by too many people. [Here’s the text of the Tweet shown in the Alex VanNess article on Breitbart News]:
“Linda Sarsour… Brigette Gabrial= Ayaan Hirsi. She’s askin’ 4 an a$$ whippin’. I wish I could take their vaginas away – they don’t deserve to be women…. 5:38 PM – 8 Mar 2011”
Alex VanNess closed his piece for Breitbart with this: “…. Sarsour is seen as a rising star in leftist circles and the Democratic Party. The left needs to take the blinders off and take a long, hard look at the people they’re propping up as role models.
The only star rising for Sosour is her promise to get out a vote for Diblasio in exchange for more city money.
ReplyDeleteGale I notice your unease with Sosours undermining support for Israel. BTW, are you French?
Yes Gaily, the obvious support for the Palestinians has you rattled. My question is just exactly how close a disciple to Ayn Rand. a/k/a Ann Rosenberg, are you?
ReplyDeleteYes I don't know why everybody keeps on mentioning Sansour in these stories. Sansour is not running because she knows her Halal Sharpton act is too divisive for this district and she is well on her way to becoming the Muslim Oprah on a national stage but since Sansour is not running, she is deviously propping up a man of the cloth as her Manchurian Candidate. His goes by Reverend Pastor Father Khader El-Nateen. He is a 49-year-old Palestinian born in the West Bank village of Beit Jala and came to New York in 1990-something or another. Keep your eyes on the ball because this is how they win and we lose!! As Republicans we need to stick together !
ReplyDeleteCan't all real Bay Ridge Americans show solidarity and agree that we need a Halal-Sharpton ban in Bay Ridge politics.
ReplyDeleteLets see how Justin feels when that Marty/Abbate deal of no races, that Justins been part of, includes his boss Gentile getting a Judgeship. What goes around comes around.
ReplyDeleteThe Big 50 !!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing to comment about. I just wanted to be comment # 50
Party ID aside it is too bad John and Justin are running, their operatives run the sleaziest dirtiest campaigns, no relevant issues will be discussed if they have their way.
ReplyDeleteDid somebody suggest Quag is relevant?
ReplyDeleteSay what you want Q is relevant. He will round up the usual slumlords and they will dutifully write the big checks. As usual if he can't win, he'll try to make sure no one else can win either.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't that imply we won't have a City Councilperson thanks to Quaglione?
ReplyDeleteObviously if John doesn't win he will do whatever he can to help the Democrat, Liam will do the same because I think that is in the Conservative Party rulebook or something.
ReplyDeletethe only chance we Conservative Republicans have to win back this Council seat is if we coalesce behind ONE candidate, otherwise we will surely lose. Capano, Quaglione and Liam all running through the same door is going to cost us any chance we have to win this seat back and that's the God's honest truth whether we all want to admit it or not.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the strictly pay to play David Greenfield supporting Brooklyn Conservatives are the dominant opposition party in Brooklyn, any and all true Republicans will have no chance.
ReplyDeleteThe video posted on Liam's personal Facebook page shows a nearly full back room at the Lief with about eighty people in that room.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: THE "CANDIDATE HIMSELF MAKES AN ADMISSION" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTHANKS TO THIS BLOG'S CRITICAL REPORTING ON HIS ANNOUNCEMENT EVENT >>> AND <<< SOME OF THE REAL FACTUAL DETAILS PROVIDED BY >>> SOME <<< OF THIS BLOG'S PRECIOUS COMMENTER CONTRIBUTORS, CANDIDATE WILL/LIAM MC CABE HAS COME CLEAN WITH A BETTER ESTIMATE OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTENDED HIS GROUNDHOG DAY ANNOUNCEMENT BASH --- NOW THE NUMBER IS ABOUT "... A HUNDRED"
You don't have to believe me read Will/Liam's own words posted on Facebook: "I was very excited and humbled to see over 100 people turn out to hear my decision regarding the race... The love and support I felt from the community was undeniable and I intend to make the neighborhood that has supported me my whole life proud.” (See "Liam for City Council BKLiam" 2/6/17, Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/BkLiam/]).
