"I want to take a minute to try and dispel some of the hysteria surrounding what is being called a #MuslimBan and reach out to the people of this community who h...ave been looking for #StraightTalk, especially my Muslim friends and neighbors.
I spent the earlier part of the day personally calling and speaking with some of the leaders in the Muslim and Christian Arab community to establish a conversation and provide reassurance regarding the President's executive order. We all agreed that security is a major concern but staying true to the values this nation was founded on is just as important. I explained that I supported the measure as a temporary remedy to allow this current administration to gain better control of the vetting process in these countries.
As someone who has worked closely with many of the United States Embassies of the seven countries in question, I can tell you that it's extremely difficult for our government to work effectively in these countries. I have seen these embassies shut down or periodically vacated because of threats and instability.
The President has implemented a temporary ban of entry on seven countries where his administration believes people cannot be properly vetted because of the instability of their home country and government. The ban does not list religion as a litmus test.
I would never support a ban based on faith, period.
The logic underscoring this ban is that we cannot properly vet and verify information with an unstable government or with countries in which we have lost all diplomatic ties.
The suspension is not permanent. During the 90 day suspension of visa entries, the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State and the Director of National Intelligence will be working together to develop a more efficient vetting process.
The fact that Green-card holders were detained may have more to do with the overall confusion in the implementation of this order but it is not included in the language of the order and Green-card holders will be let in.
The Muslim and Arab leaders I spoke to in #Brooklyn today are very good friends who are American patriots like myself, however due to the hysteria, many of their constituents are scared and that is understandable. Some have pointed out the fact that other nations like Saudi Arabia, which where home to terrorists were left out and I share that concern as well.
At its core, this is an issue of balancing security and liberty. I support this measure but I do so with serious concerns that we protect our civil liberties and remain a nation that is built by and welcoming of immigrants. I will be continuing this conversation with our elected officials, community leaders all of my neighbors.
We are going to work through this as #OneCommunity...."

It looks like Liam is kicking off his first political campaign by trying to pander to all sides at once.
ReplyDeleteWell with free beer and food he should get the tradional free loaders at The Lief to make it look like a crowd..
ReplyDeleteSince his name is 'Liam' and he spends so much time having to explain things, he's more than earned the right to have his own word for it - 'Liamsplaining'
ReplyDeleteCapanos message is clear. Win the primary and lose the election. And his connection to Castimides should go over well. The only diifference between Castimmides and Soros is Castimides gives more money to Democrats. Amazing the fat man lost the primary for Mayor.
ReplyDeleteTo the 11:25 AM person.
ReplyDeleteDid you say free beer and food? Where and when???????
Only readers of this blog have heard of Capano. A complete non entity in Bay Ridge. A Facebook warrior at best. You cannot win an election or even compete when you have after so many months of trying so little presence.
ReplyDelete6:39 why act surprised Capano campaign is run by people who have never won an election and know nothing about the district. And no one in the district gave him any money.
ReplyDeleteHow much has mccabe or quaglione raised?? How about all republicans and conservatives agree to support the Republican who raised the most money by the next march filing..stop the BS
ReplyDeleteCapano has officially announced and has been campaigning for a year. If you work for a billionaire for all those years you should have a network that can put together more than $10,000 in a filing period, period.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, Capano is taking a few pages out of President Trump's book. Maybe, he's Not focusing on a getting the look of a lot of paid-for support in the early going, so he doesn't need early fund raising. So far, Capano is way ahead of the Republican pack in free coverage, something that this blog likes to call'earned media'.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of Capano or the other guy Trump
ReplyDeleteOnce again I will ask...Lets all agree to support the Republican candidate who has raised the most money in the next filing in March????
ReplyDeleteInstead, let's agree that if Liam declares that he's a candidate tonight, that means the absolute end of John Quaglione's political career, once and for all.
