Isn’t it about time for New York State to have a Constitutional Convention and update it’s existing and very out of date state constitution

ON ELECTION DAY 2017  ---  there will be a very important ballot referendum  ---  SUCH A REFERENDUM IS MANDATED TO BE HELD IN 2017 BY THE EXISTING NYS CONSTITUTION

The proposition will seek to determine whether to hold a NYS Constitutional Convention in 2019 and to authorize such NYS Constitutional Convention to amend the existing NYS Constitution or draft an entirely new one

LETS START OUR COVERAGE ABOUT THE "CON-CON" REFERENDUM  WITH THIS   >>>  The Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government at the State University of New York (SUNY), the Government Law Center at Albany Law School, the League of Women Voters of New York State and the Siena Research Institute have embarked on a multiyear program to educate the public on the constitutional convention.   According to a statement on the institute’s website, the purpose of their joint venture was  “…  [T]o ensure that New York’s voters, are made aware of this work, [and go to vote in 2017] with a clearer sense of what a constitutional convention could achieve....” [SEE BRIEF ITEM BELOW]

According to an article on the webpage of the Rockefeller Institute of Government   On November 7, 2017, voters will go into voting booths throughout New York State and, as they are every 20 years, will be faced with the Constitutionally mandated question, ”Shall there be a convention to revise the constitution and amend the same?” (N.Y. Const., Art XIX, sec 2)…   In only nine instances in New York State history have we convened a Convention to consider how the State Constitution might be altered, potentially changing how government in Albany works….   Recognizing the importance of this opportunity, the Rockefeller Institute, the Government Law Center at Albany Law School, the League of Women Voters of New York State, and the Siena Research Institute have joined forces, often with partner organizations from around the state, to conceive and implement a multiyear campaign designed to ensure that each of New York’s voters, made aware of this work, goes to vote with a clearer sense of what a Constitutional Convention could achieve….   Contained within this Constitutional Convention web portal are sections that provide context, history, a timeline, videos of presentations, information about our partners and experts, a guide to publications, and a media archive of the work being done to greatly enhance civic engagement on this pivotal issue….”   (See  “New York State Constitutional Convention 2017”   by the Rockefeller Institute of Government – The public policy research arm of the State University of New York [and the Government Law Center at Albany Law School, the League of Women Voters of New York State, and the Siena Research Institute] [http://www.rockinst.org/nys_concon2017/]).

  1. Vote yes for the convention. We are not getting any "change" from this Governor or legislature

  2. Gail, you need to tell all your Republican friends to vote 'YES' for a constitutional convention next November in order to free the Republican Party from poaching many of their voters and much of their patronage. New York election rules on party lines need to be brought into line with all the other states.

  4. Why has Mike Long always been so much against a New York State Constitutional Convention?
