Is the Brannan--Capano race for the NYC 43rd council seat going to be a wire-to-wire steeplechase to the November Election  ---  AND  ---  Are the hurdles and hazards only there to eliminate Brannan & Capano’s ”intra”-party opponents ???

The key folksperson at the Kings County Politics blog seems to think so…..

According to the blogger[s] (?) at KCP  ---  Although there is still a lot of track left in the 2017 Bay Ridge Derby to succeed term-limited 43rd District City Councilman Vincent Gentile (Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights), Democrat Justin Brannan and Republican Bob Capano are clearly showing the fortitude, will and political organizational skills that defines frontrunner status….”   (See  43rd City Council Race: Brannan, Capano Jump Out of the Gate Galloping” by Kings County Politics, 1/13/17, KCP/ BayRidge   [http://www.kingscountypolitics.com/43rd-city-council-race-brannan-capano-jump-gate-galloping/]).

KCP ON JUSTIN BRANNAN

The article immediately lays out one of the reasons that its views about Justin Brannan have some real cred, with this:   “….  Brannan, who recently left his job with the de Blasio Administration to concentrate on the upcoming November Primary (sic), announced yesterday he has already pulled in $57,000 from more than 400 donors in just over one month after opening his campaign committee. He also cleared the 75 in-district contributor threshold, making him eligible to receive the max in public funding, which will give him $6 in public money for every $1 dollar he raises within certain guidelines….”

KCP ON BOB CAPANO

The KCP piece devoted almost as much enthusiasm for the candidacy of Republican Bob Capano, however it focused on different attributes of Capano as a campaigner -- thus:   “….  On[ ] the Republican side, Capano is almost [as] frightening with the amount of press releases he puts out, but deserves a lot of credit for weighing in on the issues of the day, including a good many that have direct impact on residents in the district…   For example, Capano recently fired off a press release standing up for local residents after Gov. Cuomo announced his plan for Verrazano Bridge toll reductions for Staten Islanders but not for Brooklynites….   Capano has also taken a stand against the city’s plan to charge residents a nickel for plastic bags and other issues. Most recently, he assailed [Linda Sarsour, a Bay Ridge Democrat activist, who is Muslim and] one of the national co-chairs of the Jan. 21 Women’s March on Washington as saying that all opponents of the progressive movement were “united around racism.”

THE KCP ARTICLE MADE AT LEAST ONE NEGATIVE COMPARISON ABOUT REPUBLICAN CAPANO AND HIS POSSIBLE/PROBABLE GOP OPPONENTS  ---  QUAGLIONE AND MC CABE

There was this little bit of slop on the track in front of Bob Capano, whom the KCP blog called the GOP “frontrunner.”   Here’s how the big man at KCP sees this very important thing:   “Capano’s two perspective (sic) opponents, Laim (sic) McCabe, who works in Congressman Dan Donovan’s office, and John Quaglione, who is the communications director for Sen. Marty Golden, have thus far been fairly quiet….   That said, both McCabe and Quaglione have shown the ability to raise money within the district, which would make them elegibile for public campaign financing, while it remains to be seen what kind of local financial support Capano will get.”

Well, there you have somebody other than me with a Brooklyn political blogger’s view of the early going in this race.   Let’s see where all or any of this goes……..

  2. >>> WHY <<< is Glenn Nocera still trying to get out from under an August 2016 post and eighty comments about his Brooklyn Young Republican Club's support of a recent Democrat, Staten Islander Janine Materna, in her race against a conservative Republican incumbent assemblyman on Staten Island?

  3. >>> WHY <<< is anonymous at 5:30 PM always misspelling names that aren't his friend Liam McCabe's?

  4. We know one thing for sure, McCabe will report raising zero dollars

  5. McCabe will get the Conservative party and that is all that counts.

  6. Be careful because Mc Cabe will be asking for donations from anybody who rides in his Uber

  7. Then it sounds like McCabe will Max out on his matching funds. $50 checks become $300.

  8. Abbate is going to win this in a blow out. Brannan is disliked by most of the people in his own party. Capano could barely raise $10,000 and only 30 people donated to him. Even Brannan raised six times what Capano raised. At least if he still lived on Staten Island he'd have an excuse. Liam might win the Primary but the Conservatives will hang him out to dry in a deal they've already made with Peter Abbate.
