Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bath Beach Council Candidate Bob  Capano and his Campaign Chairman Curtis Sliwa participate in Saturday HOMELESS protest event for their Greenwood-Sunset Park neighbors

Capano & Sliwa support local communities’ protest in a nearby Brooklyn neighborhood  ---  lending their presence reacting to this plea:  “ATTENTION SUNSET PARK RESIDENTS: OUR TOWN NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT”

Candidate Capano unveils his own evolving homeless policy positions in response to Mayor de Blasio’s panicked & unlawful "Homeless Hotels" response to the recent explosion of homelessness throughout NYC

Southwest Brooklyn City Council Candidate Bob Capano and one of his better-known Campaign Co-chairmen appeared on Saturday at an anti-shelter protest  --  but pro-homeless event  --  in the Sunset Park-Greenwood neighborhoods including  the blocks near24th Street and 4th Avenue,  formerly known as South Brooklyn.   The protest-event was hosted by several local Sunset Park groups like The Village of Sunset Park, along with the Maspeth-Middle Village Task Force  Citizens United and Citizens Defending Libraries.   Featured at the protest-event were members of the Queens-based Juniper Park Civic Association based in Middle Village and Maspeth Queens.

One speaker was Bob Holden, who’s  the President of the Juniper Park Civic Assn.,  now leading a movement throughout the city after de Blasio proposed turning a hotel into a homeless shelter in Maspeth with no local community notification or input.  He is taking these rallies/protests around the city to places like 24th Street and 4th Avenue, where NYC is now housing the homeless in one of the  new hotels, that have been built there recently.

Holden  brought his folks to Sunset Park because de Blasio and the City homeless authorities have done much the same at the Sunset Park-Greenwood sight as had been done in Maspeth, Queens. Holden’s  message was balanced and well-reasoned ---  “We are not opposed to finding housing for the Homeless -- [BUT] -- we are opposed to the[ir] being warehoused in hotels with no community input or notification….”

PRIOR RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CURTIS SLIWA AND EVENT'S CITY-WIDE  ORGANIZERS  ---   CAPANO INTRODUCED AND STANDS SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH SLIWA AT EVENT

Sliwa has had Holden on his radio show on this issue several times.   Sliwa met with Capano when he arrived;  and along with Bob,  discussed the local nuances of the City’s unannounced dumping of the homeless in Brooklyn neighborhoods with several of the event organizers and participants.

CAPANO TALKS ABOUT HIS POSITONS INVOLVING THE HOMELESS

According to Bob Capano  ---   “ Brooklyn Community Board 7, which covers Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace, got no notification of the City’s plan to house the homeless in many of the hotels in South Brooklyn. These hotel rooms cost an extraordinary amount for taxpayers and as we heard directly Saturday from someone actually living in one of these facilities….”

Capano then started to explain what might be the beginnings of his own  “homeless policy “  ---  “[N]o city services are being offered to help these individuals get on their feet. They are literally just being warehoused. They need to be re-integrated and again become a part of the communities where they have lived for years…”  --    and  --  “ [T]hat can only happen if the mayor and his administration works with the community, not just them showing up in the middle of the night with bunches of homeless people on buses….”

Capano then noted how, when he was Director of Community Boards under Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, COUNCILMAN Bill de Blasio always spoke about community notification and input when it came to anything Mayor Bloomberg's administration tried to do, now as Mayor he ignores his own words. "He is a hypocrite," said Capano referring to de Blasio, while noting that "... chants of  ---   'One Term Mayor' --- were prominent..."  at the Sunset Park-Greenwood protest-event.

  1. Capano sounds like the solution is a big government program to integrate the homeless into the community the government chooses.

Yeah. The problem is Diblasio government solutions are not big enough

THE "WAREHOUSING" OF THE HOMELESS IN SMALL HOTELS IN RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES ALL AROUND THE CITY IS MOST LIKELY VERY BAD SOCIAL POLICY; AND IT'S PROBABLY THE MOST EXPENSIVE WAY TO APPROACH THE HOMELESS PROBLEM

--- BOB CAPANO'S EMERGING POLICY POSITIONS AND WHAT HE MIGHT SUGGEST AS CHANGES NEED TO BE WEIGHED AGAINST WHAT IS BEING DONE BY CITY AGENCIES RIGHT NOW.....

  5. I think Capano needs GPS.

He lives in Staten Island and hes taken on the homeless issue in Sunset Park, which, is out of the district he claims to want to run in.

Capano might want to aim his darts somewhere near his district. Maps are available for a small fee.

  6. Capano lives in Dyker Heights now.
Now what do you say against him..haha

  7. Capano and his wife moved to Dyker Heights? Why don't we see him around more often?

  8. What people need to start looking at is whether Bob Capano can beat any Democrat just running on the Republican line when somebody like McCabe has the Conservative Party line locked up.

  9. Will kassar and Golden risk exposing themselves for all to see the frauds they are if they do allow McCabe to run on the conservative party line to potentially give the election to a Democrat. There will be a lot of press for this race and some state republicans will not be happy with Marty G.

  10. Lets not forget if the conservatives are foolish enough to back Capano he can do an OTB to take the line. He will have the resources to do it. So if he does all this, it will be a big embarassment to Kassar and Golden.

Is John Quaglione getting ready to switch and become a Democrat ???

I took a look a his Facebook page today and, boy oh boy !!!

Is he ever the new face of the >>> pro-abortions <<< March of Dimes here in Brooklyn --- or what !!!

Next up: it's JQ shilling for another phony front group pushed by Quaglione's boss, Marty Golden --- "Brooklyn's Got Talent" with it's close association (some kind of "sponsorship" deal] with the nickel & dime crony capital operation --- "Empire State Development, LLC" (Tell us this JQ, how long will it be before your boss goes 100% whole-hog Clintons and starts his own "Marty Golden Foundation" ???)

Maybe, Johnny Q's "la piece de resistance" was his photo-op homage to the Captain of the 68th Precinct, Joseph Haywood --- raising awareness for "breast cancer"... --- How about, raising awareness about how the rising crime rates in Bay Ridge are indicative of a sub-par job by the NYPD in Quaglione's and his boss' bailiwick....

OH ! OH ! OH ! Then, there's JQ's being at the ribbon cutting >>> IN SUNSET PARK <<< (we all know, the McCabe folks won't like that one bit.....).

  24. UPDATE: THE "CAPANO COMMUNICATIONS TEAM" EDITION

EARLIER THIS EVENING, I RECEIVED A VERY NICE E-MAIL ANNOUNCING THAT BOB CAPANO HAD ADDED TWO FINE YOUNG CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN ACTIVISTS TO HIS CAMPAIGN TEAM, VITO PALMIERI & VITO DI GIOVANNI

Because it is both so circumspect and descriptive, here is that E-Mail in full:

    "Dear Galewyn Massey,

Vito [Di Giovanni] and I are proud to announce our positions as Bob Capano's communications directors for his 2017 City Council Campaign. With an emphasis on social media, Vito and I seek to grow Bob's Twitter and Facebook presence, effectively communicate his message with the press and voters and help differentiate Bob from his opponents.

The New York City Council has been out of touch with the majority of New Yorkers, specifically those in the 43rd Council District. Instead of focusing on the near 60,000 people in the city who are homeless (40% being children), fighting the heroin epidemic that has claimed dozens of lives and stopping the five cent bag tax that would nickle and dime New Yorkers, especially senior citizens and lower income residents when they go grocery shopping in the name of "environmentalism," the City Council is focused on dumping homeless people in shelters without seeking underlying solutions to the problems, investing $100,000 of tax payer's money into heroin injection facilitates, ("shoot-up galleries") and banning families from enjoying the circus as the City Council seeks to ban exotic animals in order to line their pockets with donations from animal rights extremists groups.

In order to best showcase Bob, a supermarket manager who understands the frustrations of those in the 43rd Council District because he is an everyday New Yorker and not a career politician, we intend to best target those who share these concerns and highlight that there is an option to send a memo to the City Council and Mayor de Blasio. We intend on using analytics and detailing Bob's plan to those who share his concerns using statistical analysis, mentions, and twitter messaging as a means of connecting the people with a solution to the issues that so many want solved. This will take time, but we are confident that Bob's message will resonate with voters of the 43rd City Council district. Within days of joining Bob's campaign, we have seen a 318% jump in Tweet impressions, a 272% spike in profile visits and a 400% rise in mentions.

Our radio show was able to garner over 10,000 followers on twitter because we understood the issues the country faced; we understood that we needed to band together to fight the direction this country is going.

Bob is the man for this job and we are proud to help him represent the values of the 43rd City Council district by bringing our experience to his campaign.

    Thank You,

    Vito Palmeri

  27. Bob has been a career aspiring politician. After getting blown out in Brooklyn twice, he moved to Staten Island, and could barely make County Committee. Now he's launching a run for the City Council in Brooklyn because the only other two people interested in running consists of someone who got blown out by Genitile last time with the worst showing for a Republican in the history of the district, and someone else who's basically a party animal masquerading as a legitimate candidate and not someone who is running just to give campaign jobs to Conservative party hacks.

    ReplyDelete
  28. A "... career aspiring politician..."! Yuh outta yuh mind! Bob Capano has had a real day job for years -- and he's had his share of PT night jobs. He's been "livin' the dream" like a bunch of other Gen-Xers.

Capano might have had his start and kept his hand in politics, but that doesn't make him a career politician. He's not like that pair of patronage-only stooges John Quaglione and Liam McCabe.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Did anybody see Liam today? He looked like ten miles of very bad road that's been washed out in spots.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No one is comparing Bob with John or Liam neither of whom has ever held a non patronage political job in their adult lives, but don't forget that aside from being a manager at a Supermarket his full time jobs have been for Markowitz, Vito Fossella, and Bob Turner.

  31. RESPONSE: THE "ON A PERSONAL NOTE" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 3:57 PM"

YOU ARE LITERALLY & FORMALLY >>> INCORRECT <<< WHEN YOU SAY THAT --- "NO ONE IS COMPARING BOB [CAPANO] WITH JOHN [QUAGLIONE] OR LIAM [MC CABE]..."

Perhaps, you do not choose to compare Bob Capano with John Quaglione and/or Liam McCabe; however several other comment makers either implicitly or explicitly made that/those comparison(s).....

And even if they had not, almost all of the favorable material that has appeared on this blog about Bob Capano exists within a milieu that includes a comparative discussion of Capano's merits as a candidate for the City Council from the 43rd CC District. Since, both John Quaglione and Liam McCabe have also been mentioned as possible candidates for that very seat, along with quite a few Democrats, it should be clear that >>> SOMEBODY <<< is comparing Bob Capano to the others --- even if that >>> SOMEBODY <<< might be only me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No matter who you are comparing to Bob it doesn't change that all of them have been aspiring for political office for a long time. Bob has run twice and lost badly, now he lives on Staten Island and is running for a City Council seat in Brooklyn.

  34. UPDATE: THE "MOMENTUM GROWS" EDITION

ACROSS BROOKLYN >>> REPUBLICAN CLUBS ARE COMING ONBOARD THE BOB CAPANO BANDWAGON

BROWNSTONE REPUBLICANS ARE TALKING UP CAPANO'S CANDIDACY >>> SUGGESTING A RETURN TO THE ROOTS OF ITS PREDECESOR AND AN EXTENSION OF THE REPUBLICAN CLUB'S INFLUENCE INTO SOUTHWEST BROOKLYN

Downtown Brooklyn’s Brownstone Republican Club joined the growing ranks of Republicans getting behind the candidacy of Bob Capano for the GOP nomination for 43rd Council District for Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and parts of Bensonhurst and Bath Beach next year. The 43rd Counc. Dist. will have an open seat in 2017 due to the incumbent Vincent Gentile (D) being term-limited under the NYC laws. That makes the Southwest Brooklyn council district one of the few in the entirety of New York City that is considered competitive for Republicans --- certainly the only one in Brooklyn.

John Jasilli, an officer of the Brownstone Republican Club [and twice a Borough-wide candidate] stated, "Over the years, Bob Capano has proven to be the type of problem-solver we need in city government. We are proud to support him, and know he will bring some much needed sanity and common sense to City Hall. His experience working in the public sector for Brooklyn's highest elected officials of both parties, and private sector managing a business makes him one of the strongest Republican City Council candidates in this city."

The most recent incarnation of Brownstone Republican Club was formed in 1994 in Downtown Brooklyn, originally to promote political and community activism in Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Park Slope, and Cobble Hill. In recent years, it has grown to include active members from throughout the borough. Their mission statement is to provide a forum for discussion of political issues and other topics of city, state and federal interest to encourage fellowship among politically like-minded individuals and to develop and actively support Republican candidates for elective office.

A prior edition of the Brownstone Republican Club included a large swath of Bay Ridge when the then-52nd A.D. ran along the Brooklyn waterfront from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Verrazano Bridge. Recent moves by today's GOP Brownstoners suggest that they are getting set to spread their influence South and East into other ADs where the existing Republican clubs appear to be whithering in the vine [certainly they are less dynamic and active than the Brownstone Club].
