WHAT GOES ON HERE --- Marty Golden is doing events outside his district, while quality of life issues fester on his doorstep inside that district

Homeless person creates a problem for the people living at-and- around 72nd Street and 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge  ---  To those who don’t know, that’s just two small bocks from Marty Golden’s district office

I did  two particular  comments to the thread following  my last post on this log below;  and I wanted you all to know how I thought they were important and  might be connected.  The first dealt with the Brooklyn State Senator doing an event at Father Capodanno Boulevard on Staten island;  and the second was about the nuisance problems generated by a homeless man hanging out at 5th Avenue & 72nd Street.

POLITICAL IMPACT OF GOLDEN’S OUT-OF-DISTRICT, OUT OF COUNTY EVENT

Golden’s appearance at the event on Staten Island wouldn’t be at all objectionable if it weren’t for it’s subjective and political implications…..   A memorial biker-event for a fallen police officer is actually quite commendable.  However, given all that is going on in Staten Island, with active primaries in both the Republican and Conservative parties,  Golden needs to understand the significance of his being so up front at the out-of-district, out-of-Brooklyn Staten Island event.
Of course, Marty was probably very well aware of all that, because so many of his closest >>>Brooklyn<<< supporters are active with the players generating those primaries on “The Island.”

No doubt, one of the reasons for State Senator Golden’s,  and those close to him, being so adventuresome is that Golden faces no political challenges in his Brooklyn district this year.

HOMELESS ISSUE COMES “HOME” TO ROOST ON GOLDEN’S DOORSTEP

About a week  back,  John Quaglione, Marty Golden’s staffer, posted a  picture  on Facebook that showed  an intersection  near Golden’s District Office as it looked on a summer night.  Not apparent in that somewhat attractive picture was the nearby reality of a serious social pathology --- the homeless living out on our streets during this summer of 2016.
BUT THEY WERE CERTAINLY THERE…..  As was pointed out by Bob Capano, a GOP candidate for the NYC Council, earlier today.  There are problems being caused by a homeless person staying at and around 72nd Street and 5th Avenue  --- yes that’s two short blocks from Marty Golden’s district office.

THE TIE-IN

Several comments to my prior post below, were very firm and open in their belief that homelessness was not a problem IN BAY RIDGE; and that BAY RIDGEITES wouldn’t welcome any candidate that strongly addressed the issues created by homelessness in our midst.  Sadly, that seems to be the present world view that is prevalent  among those working in Marty Golden’s office, such that they were blind and unfeeling as to the manifestation of a serious social pathology festering right on their doorstep.
Much of the commentary appearing on this blog appear to be from Golden and Quaglione supporters --- and it’s from that class of people that negative views about Capano’s raising the issues of homelessness both near and far have been expressed.  It’s also those very same folks that repeatedly tout their Brooklyn GOP State Senator’s political dominance in Kings County and his growing power elsewhere around the state -- no doubt, now including Staten Island.
Unfortunately, especially for them, their insights into the social realities of Bay Ridge and nearby communities,  as well as the political clout of their local patron are seriously flawed.  Political predictions whether as to: the definition of the changing boundaries of the political battlefield; identification of issues in their home district  or possible elective outcomes in future races are seriously flawed as a result.

  1. BACKFILL: THE “STORY BEHIND THE STORY” EDITION

YESTERDAY, A PUBLIC MINDED CITIZEN NAMED GEORGINE BENVENUTO MADE THE FACEBOOK ENTRY IMMEDIATELY BELOW TO SEVERAL BAY RIDGE AREA POLS.....

LET’S SEE IF ANYBODY FOLLOWS UP ON THIS.....

    Here’s Ms. Benvenuto's Facebook posting:
    _______________________________
” I am calling on all the powers that be on 5th ave and 72nd street in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. I took this photo last week when it was about 99 degrees out. I just saw him again now. Not sleeping, relieving himself on the back of an SUV at this same location. Small children were walking along avenue and were watching him, with all his "junk" hanging out. This is absolutely unacceptable. He should be picked up immediately and be evaluated. Fair warning he can potentially be a time bomb, I mean really, he is not in his right mind. Is he?”

[The photo in the Facebook post showed an obviously unconscious, unwashed and unkempt bearded white man in summer shorts with dirt-blackened bare feet]

  2. Hey Gail, didn't you do something about Sarsour saying she was attacked by a homeless person about a year ago? I'm pretty sure you did, and weren't you defending the homeless guy at the time?

  3. The event in Staten a island honored a fallen police officer. Anyone who knows Golden would expect him to attend.

  4. Golden did more than "attend."

  5. RESPONSE & BACKFILL: THE “FOR THE RECORD” EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:16 PM" & "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:30PM"

    >>> "...8:30 PM" <<< IS RIGHT & >>> "... 8:16 PM" <<< NOT SO MUCH !!!

Social media is a wonderful thing to help reach out and touch people. It also provides a record of what’s really going on... like at a Marty Golden supported event on Staten Islan

Look at this Facebook entry by Nanci Roden & others: “Details -- Please join Russel [Timoshenko]’s family, friends & Retribution Law Enforcement Motor Cycle Club as we remember the Sacrifice Russel made & celebrate his life >>> A special thank you to Marty Golden & his staff for helping us make this happen.<<< Registration begins at 9:30 Kickstands up at 12:00pm ~ BBQ to follow -- THE MIDLAND BEACH PARKING LOT #5A -- Located on Father Capodanno Blvd. & Lincoln Avenue….” [https://www.facebook.com/events/559811290748069/]

Quite apart from the unambiguous wording above, several other items indicated that the event was closely and particularly associated with Brooklyn State Senator Martin Golden.

As for the nonsense --- ".... Anyone who knows Golden would expect him to attend" --- surely so, he was a sponsor in everything but the title. Let's not go through a list of other fallen policemen's memorial events on Staten Island that Brooklyn State Senator Golden did not attend over the years.

  6. You made an interesting point about the homeless issue boiling over in the summer. Homeless shelters are reporting record high numbers. If it breaks a record in August it will be packed in the winter.

  7. The Bay Ridge cabal of Republicans and Conservatives is stuck on a melting ice flow demographically. Their only escape is into Staten Island. The proof is what Kassar told Capano, stay on Staten Island it's where the future is.

  8. RESPONSE: THE "GAMBLING CABAL" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:49 AM" & "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:35 AM"

YOUR "DOG WHISTLE" IS SOMEBODY ELSE'S "MAGIC FLUTE"

    I'm shocked -- shocked I tell you.....

I do believe that "cabal" has many meanings and everything is contextual. Not all of it has occult and sinister implications.

On the other hand --- I MUST ADMIT, I NEVER MET A CONSPIRACY THEORY THAT I DIDN'T LIKE AT LEAST A LITTLE.....

  9. Gail, if you looked closely at the flyer for the "2016 8th Annual Motorcycle Run" posted up on Nanci Roden's face book sight, you would have seen at the top left corner of the announcement, "A Special Thank you to State Senator Marty Golden for Sponsoring this Event." It looks like you got it wrong when you said he was the sponsor in everything but the title, because according to Nanci Roden, Golden did have the title of "Sponsor."

  10. Yes Gail, Golden spoke at the event honoring the fallen police officer on Staten Islan. Wow what should we read into that. You have no credibility. You just simply hate Golden.

  11. RESPONSE & BACKFILL: THE "OPPOSITION & EXPOSITION DOESN'T MEAN EITHER HATRED OR OTHER ANIMUS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... 12:27 AM" & "ANONYMOUS SAID... 6:33 AM"

Thanks to "...12:27 AM" -- your observation is correct -- the wording of that "Special Thank you to State Senator Marty Golden..." as ..."a "Sponsor[ ]..." of the "... Event" was on the copy of the flyer that was republished on Liam Ambrose McCabe's Facebook page on "... August 25 at 10:28am · New York, NY"

On the other hand, the comment of "...6:33 AM" has it all wrong and a half. In addition, it is little more than a thinly veiled ad hominem attack on me.

Most important, Brooklyn Republican-Conservative State Senator Martin Golden did significantly more than show up at the "Staten Island event" and >>> SPEAK <<<. He was repeatedly touted as the "...Sponsor..." of the event by Nanci Roden and others.

BTW, a note on "credibility" and "hate" --- political opposition doesn't bespeak "hatred" or any other specific animus against any politician, be it Hillary Clinton or State Senator Martin Golden.

Shining a light on actual facts and amplifying those facts with informed opinion shouldn't hurt one's credibility in any way. In fact, those very things should buttress or enhance the credibility of whoever does the factual exposition and/or informed opining.

"... 6:33 AM" was free to agree or disagree, or even better to make a fact-based rebuttal argument of some sort. That wasn't done; instead, "...6:33 AM" tried to make it personal. Not only is that not nice, it isn't even a very effective form of argument.

  12. Meanwhile, homeless people are still lingering a few blocks from Goldens district office
