BOB CAPANO HAS DONE ANOTHER OP-ED ABOUT RADICAL ISLAMIST SPOKESPERSON LINDA SARSOUR FOR THE “J*P UPDATES” BLOG
Former GOP Assembly Candidate in the 46th AD and City Council opponent to NYC Councilman Vincent Gentile AGAIN calls out “VINNY” to speak-out against the extreme and inflammatory rhetoric of fellow Bay Ridge Democrat Linda Sarsour
The most recent Bob Capano Op-Ed for the Orthodox Jewish-oriented blog, “J*P Updates,” started off like this: “One month after Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab-American Association made her most recent extreme comments on twitter, Bob Capano, who was the Republican, Conservative, and Independence party candidate against Councilman Vincent Gentile in 2009, today called on the incumbent to end his silence on the issue. He said that Gentile must use his influence with the Arab-American Association to end the pattern of irresponsible comments of Linda Sarsour, or end taxpayer funding of the organization....” (See “Op Ed: One Month Later Councilman Gentile Still Silent On Extreme Comments Of Linda Sarour” by Bob Capano, 11/10/15, J*P Updates/ Op-Ed [http://jpupdates.com/2015/11/10/op-ed-one-month-later-councilman-gentile-still-silent-on-extreme-comments-of-linda-sarour/]).
Capano continued this “attack” portion of his piece with this: “... ‘Councilman Gentile can no longer remain silent as Linda Sarsour, the Executive Director of the Arab-American Association, an organization based in [his] district that he spearheads funding for each year, continues to make statements promoting violence against Israelis that divides our community and city.” Since 2012, the Arab-American Association has received over $164,000 in taxpayer funds from the City Council. Mr. Capano stated that Gentile should demand that the organization ensure that Ms. Sarsour, his constituent, ends her pattern of extreme comments against Israel and Jewish citizens. If she refuses, the Arab-American Association should end their association with her or face losing taxpayer funds....”
What jumps out of the text of this piece is that it doesn’t mention the word >>> “AGAIN” <<< nearly often enough. The people of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights need to have it driven home that Gentile funded and subsidized Linda Sarsour for some time now, but Councilman Gentile has been AWOL in keeping Sarsour on the right side of the line of civility. Nonetheless, Op-Ed-ster Bob Capano did chide Councilman Gentile about this very think just last month.
Whether this is just a Bob Capano redux, or if BC were being annoyingly repetitious to drive his point like a spike into Vinny’s heart — he needed to let everybody know why he’s doing what he's doing. In the absence of that, I have my own theory.....
WHAT’S BOB CAPANO REALLY DOING ?
Following the passages quoted above, Bob Capano added this: ‘As an aide to Democrat and Republican elected officials in Brooklyn for many years, and as a little league baseball manager and President of the 68th Precinct Youth Council, I have coached many Arab-American children in our community, had positive relationships with their parents, and worked with many respected leaders of this community. I know that the pattern of extreme and radical statements of Linda Sarsour do not represent the vast majority of Arab-Americans in our community.’ I think all of that is more of a buildup of Bob Capano than it is an attempt at a takedown of Linda Sarsour. An earlier passage contained this fragment: “... Capano, who served as District Director to former Republican Congressman Bob Turner and Director of Community Relations to former Democratic Borough President Marty Markowitz...”. Now, I put it to you, just how much of your own biography and resume do you need to put into the sauce, if the purpose of your recipe is just to cover somebody else with dollops of hot gravy?
I doubt that this second chorus of “Row, row, row your boat....” is really a hit piece at all..... If it were, it would have been much tougher on Gentile and/or Sarsour than the first iteration [which I also covered at the time]. I think the answer is something a little less obvious, but certainly more reasonable and PREDICTABLE.
IS BOB CAPANO GETTING READY FOR A RUN ? IF SO, THEN WHAT”S HE RUNNING FOR ?
Yes, YES ! ! ! I think he is. Exactly "WHAT'S HE RUNNING FOR" is discussed further down this page. After this year’s spectacular crash and burn by the Republican candidate for assembly in the 46th AD; and, along with her, the classic fail of the new KCRP Chairman Arnaldo Ferraro to deliver anything or anybody for any meaningful political purpose on election day, the field is wide open in the 46th AD for Bob to run there — and remember, he did this all before without any real help or support from either Arnaldo or Lucretia ..... [In fact, there’s a bit of opposite history there].
So why do that ??? Well, you might ask !!!
A little birdie told me [well, not that little] that “Bob” has a plan to BE >>> THE GOP CANDIDATE <<< for Vinny Gentile’s open City Council seat in 2017 [and, actually, it’s not just “Bob’s” plan — wink, nod, touch the side of the nose]. Last time out for Bob Capano, he ran for the Assembly in the 46th AD in 2008 as a prelude to his City Council run in 2009.
The difference in 2016 and 2017 is that Bob is now part of a bigger city-wide operation and coalition. Also, he comes into 2016 and 2017 as a relatively fresh property, and he's not tainted by the Brooklyn GOP organizational wars of 2013 and 2015 [the Golden-Eaton-Ferraro thing] — something that John Quaglione can’t say vis a vis the City Council seat, and Lucretia Potter can’t say about the 46th AD assembly spot. More important, Bob Capano can run all-out for two straight years with a real competitive run for a seat that will almost be like an “open seat,” since Pam Harris still won’t be right for the district. – but wasn’t even tested in 2015 by Lucretia Potter.
Unless somebody else comes along, Bob will be tough to beat in a GOP primary in 2016 or in 2017; in fact, Bob will be tough to beat in GOP primaries for offices in both 2016 AND 2017.
More details when I get them.....
Btw, don't be surprised to see more Sarsour-Gentile Op-Eds by BC in the future — possibly in an Orthodox Jewish oriented blog near you.....
Yea it's going to be especially hard to beat Bob in a Primary here ever since he moved to Staten Island and bought a house there.
ReplyDeleteHe moved something like three years ago. I guess some people just do not keep up. I even hear he is on the Staten Island GOP County Committee.
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but thought you'd be interested in knowing: http://roomgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/no-saint-theres-faint-pun-there.html
ReplyDeleteNext year's candidate will be running out of the new club in the 46th, and it's not Capano.
ReplyDeleteGentile would respond why?
ReplyDeleteCLARIFICATION: THE "WHAT BOB CAPANO WILL BE UP TO" EDITION
ReplyDeleteBOB CAPANO HAS AN ADDRESS IN THE WESTERLEIGH SECTION OF STATEN ISLAND
BY THE ELECTION CYCLES OF EITHER 2016 0R 2017 BOB CAPANO CAN ESTABLISH LAWFUL RESIDENCE TO RUN AS THE GOP CANDIDATE FOR PUBLIC OFFICES IN BROOKLYN
Mr. Capano has maintained the contacts and involvements in Brooklyn that he built up over a lifetime. Those contacts and activities are centered in the 46th Assembly District and spread into areas that make up the 43rd City Council District.
Mr. Capano appears willing to re-establish a residence in the 46th AD and/or the 43rd CC district in a timely fashion so as to run for one or both of those offices.
There are some activists in the Brooklyn Republican Party that believe Mr. Capano's credentials to run for the NYS Assembly and NYC City Council are far superior to Lucretia Regina-Potter's and/or John Quaglione's, the immediately prior GOP candidates for those two respective offices.
You have a great blog but this is a case of running across unreliable sources. Capano not moving back to Bay Ridge anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "THEN WHY DID BOB CAPANO COME INTO BROOKLYN TODAY" EDITION
ReplyDeleteHe had breakfast "Downtown" with a person well-known among many campaigners in the NYC Metropolitan area; and then he had "coffee" at the Bridgeview with another Brooklyn GOP activist....
I'm CERTAIN that all the details of residency prior to any prospective run(s) were discussed at both meetings.
Bob's not running in the 46th. The Primary in next year's contest is Lucretia vs Marty Golden's Candidate/Designated Lackey.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "HMMM !!! IS THAT SO ???" EDITION
ReplyDeleteIs that so ? You do sound certain....
"... Lucretia vs Marty Golden's Candidate/Designated Lackey..." I wonder who this "Anonymous... 1:32 PM" is.... Knows Lucretia's mind and Marty's too -- they should start their own blog; I'd follow it all the time. For sure, for sure....
Might not be such a bad idea they did know without having to research that Bob lives on SI owns a house in SI and is a member of County Committee.
ReplyDelete2:09 pm please clarify your comment above??
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting topic and I am torn over it. Bob has not been front & center in the area in several years and this could be a weakness. But this weakness could also be a strength as he would be seen by some as new & fresh and not someone who has run recently like Quaglionee and Potter, so it is the best of both worlds in a way, he can be seen as new but also get older voters who have pulled the lever for him in the past.
ReplyDeletehe is also known to be very close to Kassar and the conservatives and this will not sit well with some Republican factions. This Sarsour angle that Bob has been hitting did all of a sudden put him out there again and this seems indicative that he has more press savvy and would be more aggressive campaigning than a Quaglione. The goal is to win the council seat back and who is the best person to do that- I am not sure yet.
RESPONSE: THE "INTERESTING STUFF THAT SOME PEOPLE SAY SOMETIMES" EDITION
ReplyDelete"ANONYMOUS... 2:09 PM" KNOWS SO MUCH ABOUT SO MANY THINGS -- MAYBE, TOO MANY FOR AN UNINTERESTED PERSON
First, "Anonymous...2:09 PM" seems to know that "Anonymous...1:32 PM" knew that "...Bob lives on SI owns a house in SI and is a member of County Committee..." and that "...they did know without having to research..."
Now what's interesting is that such information was contained in the FIRST TWO comments on this thread by "Anonymous said...November 11, 2015 at 2:06 PM" and "Anonymous said... November 11, 2015 at 8:20 PM"
So what does all of that mean ???
It means that "Anonymous said...November 11, 2015 at 2:06 PM"; "Anonymous said... November 11, 2015 at 8:20 PM"; "Anonymous...1:32 PM" and "Anonymous...2:09 PM" are all very likely to be the same person.
Now, who would be SO INTERESTED in Bob Capano and the part of my post that mentioned my views about some "plan" to run in 2016 and 2017 [but particularly -- 2016 in the 46th AD] enough to make all those comments ???
HMMMM !!! I think it's somebody that really doesn't like independent blogs and isn't likely to start one.....
Or that almost everyone makes a mistake now and then and nothing wrong with admitting that Bob Capano not moving back to Bay Ridge not running for Assembly and that good idea to check stuff fed to you by usual suspects.
ReplyDeleteLets me honest, the GOP has no chance in the 46th, its going to be a heated DEM primary, with my money going on the scorned Cucco. We have a honest to goodness chance in the Council race and should be the eggs in the basket on that one. Cucco we can live with, but who wants Sarsour, Justin Brannon, or Kevin Carroll as our Councilmember?
ReplyDeleteCucco timed the Brook Krasny nomination to avoid the primary. She is very smart but is a moderate and folks this ain't your fathers Democratic Party anymore. The majority of democrat primary voters in the 46th are hard core DeBlasio supporters who would wince at supporting someone like Cucco who is pro life and close with the Kings County Conservatives. Yes we can live with Cucco but we won't get her. As for Council now that electorate is one that has turned solidly liberal only Quaglione or a Capano would have a shot against one of the three aforementioned but even that would be a log shot.
ReplyDeleteI agree it may be a long shot, but I would much rather we make a deal to support a moderate dem who would be serving in a super majority Assembly, where we don't even gain anything if we win, to make some deal to neutralize the potential support of the "dem" assembly member. I think whether it is Quaglinoe or Capano they have a stronger fighting chance for the Council, especially after all the dirty in party laundry is aired during the Dem primary.
ReplyDeleteShe would have been better with a primary, probably would be the Assembly person elect now
ReplyDeleteI trust Cuccos judgement and she must have known something to want to avoid a primary so much. Turnout in Coney Island may have been huge just like it was against Lucretia. Not sure but why else would she go to such lengths to avoid primary.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans have less than a long shot to win the council seat.
ReplyDeleteSince Capano now has such good Staten Island contacts, he can recruit from the 2015 Illuzzi Team to work on his campaign for the City Council in Brooklyn, but Capano has to move fast. I'm sure Mike Grimm will try to scoop them up for his "Comeback Team." The only question is, which Republican incumbent is Grimm planning to primary first?
ReplyDeleteA borough president might fit that description.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "CLUELESS SPEAKS FOR/AND/THEN/TO THE CLUED-IN" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... 11:56 AM" & WHOMEVER ELSE MIGHT BE IN-THE-KNOW
My source, who is a Brooklyn activist who worked in the Joan Illuzzi for Staten Island DA campaign, also indicated that several of the "Molinari types" at Illuzzi's HQ were talking up a Grimm-Oddo race.
Why won't Mike Grimm go after Dan Donovan for his old congressional seat ??? It would be a wonderful primary race between two very handsome men..... And, wouldn't Mickey "Suits" have an advantage over "Danny Boy" in the Brooklyn part of the district ???
The new Eisenhower Republican Club in the 46th will be putting forward a candidate for Assembly, and for the Council. Capano has not asked for their support so he's probably not running.
ReplyDeleteThe name Eisenhower sounds about as old as most of the Republicans that are left in the 46th.
ReplyDeleteReally? A club does not even exist yet a potential candidate is supposed to ask them for their support?? Be serious.
ReplyDeleteSPONTANEOUS REACTION: THE "'EISENHOWER' REPUBLICAN CLUB" EDITION
ReplyDeleteWELL CUT OFF MY LEGS AND CALL ME SHORTY !!!
"I LIKE IKE AND IKE IS GOOD ON A MIKE..." -- IRVING BERLIN
This is either the best-worst idea, or the worst-best idea I ever heard. My immediate question is this: "Is this any kind of a good idea ?"
I understand the concept behind the "LaGuardia Club" name that goes back somewhat further than Eisenhower's politically, although they overlapped and were both quite notable in the 1940s. I even recognize the name Edmund Seergy and why a club would memorialize his name.
Dwight David Eisenhower was almost a drafted non-Republican when he became President and has no particular historical cachet or hook in Republican Brooklyn, except maybe with Republican County Leader John R. Crews. In fact, in 1952 Senator Joseph McCarthy was far more popular among Brooklyn Republicans than Ike.
If somebody really wants to tie in to that 50s era of Brooklyn Republicanism, a name like the Frank Dorn or Bill Conklin Club would better fit the bill. If somebody were really hip, they could go with Chris Mega, Dom DiCarlo or Angelo Arculeo as their avatar; or on the bubble, Luigi Marano.
I'm surprised that this new crew ruled out such popular Republicans of yesteryear as Nelson A. Rockefeller and John V. Lindsey..... Of course, if the measure of all this is being identified as a completely anti-Arnaldo club, which it does appear to be, then naming the club after Bob DiCarlo would have been perfect.
Mr. Massey,
ReplyDeleteIs the comment by 5:29 PM one of your own little "anonymous" jokes to keep the conversation lively? Whether it is or it isn't, is this Eisenhower Club in the 46th Assembly Dist. real, as in something that anybody has heard about before?
The odds are against a Republican even in this open city council race in 2017. Need a Republican in a position to raise real money and appeal to Democrats to vote for him/her.
ReplyDeleteThe Ike Club, as people in Dyker are already calling it, is no joke. It has all the energy now, and Ghorra is meeting with them next week. Ferraro has yet to reach out.
ReplyDeletedoes ferraro or anyone else know who to reach out to?????
ReplyDeleteThere is no Eisenhower Club being formed. Ghorra is discussing organizational issues with his committee and contemplating a number of changes, but an Eisenhower Club is not one of them. Just an attempt to distract.
ReplyDeleteQUERY: THE "YOU SAID IT -- SO, YOU TELL ME" EDITION
ReplyDelete"... GHORRA... COMMITTEE... CHANGES... EISENHOWER CLUB... JUST AN ATTEMPT TO DISTRACT."
Look at the comment by "Anonymous said... 5:47 PM" above. My question ain't hard, WHAT/HOW is talk about the so-called Eisenhower Club "... an attempt to distract" ???
And as a follow-up, AT WHOM is this "... attempt to distract" aimed ???
