Today, Obama distorted history in an attack on Christianity and Christians at the National Prayer Breakfast

In a betrayal of America and American values, Barack Hussein Obama sets up a false equivalency between historic Christians and Americans,  and contemporary Arabs, Islamists and Terrorists

In a contorted attempt at establishing a “moral equivalence” with Islamic extremists, the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, verbally slammed Christianity over he ages, including American Christians   —   Instead of asking the poignant question why does  medieval violence persist among so many Islamic extremists in the present-day world

Surprise, surprise !   —   President’s remarks come on the day after a “Secret Meeting” with “Islamic leaders” at the White House

MAIN STREAM MEDIA CLEANS UP THE PRESIDENT’S DISGUSTING INSULTS IN ITS REPORTS

If you looked  to most of the mainstream outlets for a report of what President Obama said at the National Prayer Breaksfast, this is some of what you would find:
“Obama praises Dalai Lama at prayer breakfast USA TODAY-5 hours ago “President Obama praised the Dalai Lama and condemned the Islamic ... The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual Washington event that ...”; Obama condemns those who seek to 'hijack religion'

OBAMA AT NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST: ’PEOPLE COMMITTED TERRIBLE DEEDS IN THE NAME OF CHRIST

Among other things, earlier today “...[a]t the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama reminded attendees that violence rooted in religion isn’t exclusive to Islam, but has been carried out by Christians as well. ***   Obama said that even though religion is a source for good around the world, there will always be people willing to ‘hijack religion for their own murderous ends.’ ***   ‘Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,’ Obama said. ‘In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.’...” (See “Obama at National Prayer Breakfast: ‘People Committed Terrible Deeds inthe Name of Christ” by Charlie Spiering, 2/5/15, Breitbart News/ Big Government [http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/02/05/obama-at-national-prayer-breakfast-people-committed-terrible-deeds-in-the-name-of-christ/]).
The Breitbart report went further, and said, “Obama also denounced Islamic State terrorists for professing to stand up for Islam when they were actually ‘betraying it.’ ***   ‘We see ISIL, a brutal vicious death cult that in the name of religion carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism,’ he said criticizing them for ‘claiming the mantle of religious authority for such actions.’...”

However, don’t think for one moment that Barack Hussein Obama’s performance at the National Prayer Breakfast was in any way logical, fair or benign. It was a malicious attempt at establishing a contemporary moral equivalency between Christianity and western ways with Islamic, and Levantine practices and values .

WHY COMPARE LONG-AGO EVENTS WITH CONTEMPORARY ATROCITIES AND THE STRATEGIC USE OF TERRORISM  — PRESIDENT NEEDS TO LOOK AT WHY RADICAL ISLAM IS TERRORIZING THE GLOBE

Writing for  National Review On Line, Victor Davis Hanson rhetorically asks Obama these pertinent questions: “...[W]hat is the point of citing sins of 1,000, 500, 150, or 50 years ago, without acknowledging 1) that such pathologies still continue today outside the West, especially in the world of Islam, and 2) that Christianity had a unique role in ending these wrongs?”  And “... [W]why does such medieval violence persist to a much greater degree among so many Islamic extremists in the present world than among most zealots of other religions? (This is an empirical statement. Cf., for instance, the nature of recent global terror attacks in resources such as the Global Terrorism Database). And why search the distant past for examples of moral equivalence, unless the present does not offer suitable data?...” (See “Still More of President Obama’s Moral Equivalence” by Victor Davis Hanson, 2/5/15, National Review On Line
[http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/397992/still-more-president-obamas-moral-equivalence-victor-davis-hanson]).

Victor Davis Hanson concluded his article with this: “The president and his advisers should be investigating why radical Islam is currently terrorizing the globe, rather than denying it entirely, hiding it by euphemisms, or excusing it by citing morally equivalent examples from the past.”

REPORTS OF YESTERDAY’S “SECRET MEETING” AT WHITE HOUSE WITH “MUSLIM LEADERS” —   AND A COMEDIAN

Breitbart News also reported today that “[t]he White House is telling reporters it will keep secret the names of those who attended President Obama’s meeting with Muslim leaders on Wednesday. ***   ‘I don’t have a list of those who attended, but let me see if I can try to extract some more information from them for you,’ spokesman Josh Earnest explained.   ***   ‘The president has many meetings at the White House and certainly not all of them include some press coverage,’ Earnest added. ***   By publishing the meeting on the White House schedule, Earnest said that ‘we were as transparent as we could be’ and pointed to a ‘blog post’ that he hoped would ‘characterize the discussion that occurred.’ ***   The post was written [ ] by a comedian who attended the meeting and published an essay late yesterday, ridiculing Republicans in the Daily Beast. ***   As White House reporters pressed Earnest, he admitted that the records would eventually end up in the White House Visitor Access records, as is now customary for the Obama administration....”  (See “WHITE HOUSE WON’T RELEASE LIST OF MUSLIM LEADERS WHO MET OBAMA – YET” by Charlie Spiering, 2/5/15, Breitbart News/ Big Government [http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/02/05/white-house-wont-release-list-of-muslim-leaders-who-met-obama-yet/).

Interestingly, although the American mainstream media seems to have completely ignored yesterday’s gathering of Muslims at the White House,  some in “the electronic press” in India thought it to a be a somewhat  more interesting news event (See “Obama Meets Muslim Leaders, Discusses Extremism Challenge” by “PN”, 2/5/15, The New India Express  [http://www.newindianexpress.com/world/Obama-Meets-Muslim-Leaders-Discusses-Extremism-Ch]; see also  “Obama discusses extremism challenges with Muslim leaders” posted in “The Indian Awaaz,” 2/5/15, Indian Awaaz/ International Awaaz [http://theindianawaaz.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24229&catid=18]); along with some other of their blogging colleagues ( See “Obama discusses [I]slamic State challenge with Muslim leaders” posted by Sahara Samay, 2/5/15,

  1. UPDATE: THE “RIPPLES OF UPSET” EDITION

MEGYN KELLY SLAMS OBAMA FOR SLAMMING CHRISTIANS

ON HER FOX NEWS SHOW, “THE KELLY FILE,” KELLY AND MARC THIESSEN SAY THAT OBAMA USES THE SAME ANTI-CRUSADES NARRATIVE USED BY ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS

Here’s what Fox News’ Megyn Kelly posted about what President Obama did at the National Prayer Breakfast: “So Barack Obama, leftwing community organizer and closet theologian, used the National Prayer Breakfast to throw a tu quoque at anyone critical of Islam while continuing to fancy himself as the Pope of Islam...” (See “Obama uses National Prayer Breakfast to compare Christianity to ISIS” by Megyn Kelly, 2//5/15, Megyn Kelly.US [http://megynkelly.us/86513/obama-uses-national-prayer-breakfast-to-compare-christianity-to-isis/]).

Among other things Kelly went on to say, “I am not more equipped to argue Islamic theology than Obama. Suffice it to say that killing people for insulting Mohammed and for leaving Islam are not practices that are rejected by orthodox muslims living in the muslim world. Granted, you can find a few people who are adherents to any religion who will do bad things. The real difference comes when there is a demonstrable departure from faith by an action (like, say, burning a prisoner of war alive) and when actions are endemic to a religion. Here I must note that Obama’s best friends in Iran continue to hang Christian converts from Islam....”

Megyn Kelly then took Obama to task for his historically skewed view of the Crusades, which were defensive campaigns to protect Christians and Christian Shrines in Christian lands invaded by the Muslims; concluding with this: “...To look at the Crusades as Western aggression is something only a community organizer could do. The Crusades were the West’s counter-reaction to Islamic aggression....”

Later in the evening Megyn Kelly doubled-down on her expressions of outrage at the President’s anti-Christian remarks at the prayer breakfast earlier in the day. In a segment with Marc Thiessen, Kelly went so far as to say that Obama was parroting the same anti-Crusades message that the Islamic extremists use against their enemies in the West, including the United States ( See Kelly File segment: “PRES: PEOPLE DID TERRIBLE DEEDS IN THE NAME OF CHRIST’ 2/5/15, Fox News/ Kelly File [https://www.facebook.com/FoxNews/posts/10152950678231336] [with video clip of segment]).

  2. If it is a more contemporary example of "People committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ" you are looking for Gale, then perhaps I should remind you of the thousands of young boys whose souls have been murdered and innocence stolen by pedophile Catholic priests - and surprise, some right here in our own beloved Brooklyn Diocese. The meanings of "terrorism" and "atrocities" are relative. I suspect there are many adult Catholic men walking around wounded because some priest molested them all "In the name of the Father." The Roman Catholic Church has absolutely no right to speak out on the terrorist actions of others until it addresses its own sanctioning of violence for years.

Yes, yes, yes you'll say it is inapposite - so what.

  3. RESPONSE: THE "ORE-IDA GOLD OBAMA-SUPPORTING 'MRS. POTATOEHEAD' EDITION " EDITION

'MRS. POTATOEHEAD' IS COMPLETELY OFF THE RAILS TODAY -- WE ARE NOT COMPARING THE SEXUAL PERVERSIONS AND RELATED CORRUPTION OF RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS THAT EXIST IN VARIOUS CULTURES AND SOCIETIES

NO, 'MRS. POTATOHEAD' IS MAKING ANOTHER VERY SPECIFIC VERSION OF THE ARGUMENT OBAMA WAS MAKING AT THE NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST ON 2/5/15

"Anonymous...3:58 AM" obviously can't focus on the actual grievous fault being criticized in my post above --- It is President Obama's rank, insulting and scandalous anti-Christian statements of 2/5/15 made at the National Prayer Breakfast. Those remarks equated problematic items in Christian history with contemporary Islamic extremism, which embraces barbaric murder as a strategy and tactic and which emanates from Twenty-first Century Muslims all around the Twenty-first Century World.

Furthermore, her quite irrelevant statement, "The Roman Catholic Church has absolutely no right to speak out on the terrorist actions of others until it addresses its own sanctioning of violence for years" is neither logically nor rhetorically sound.

Interestingly, if we make relevant substitutions, it becomes obvious that the final argument made by "Anonymous...3:58 AM" is quite similar to the overarching one made by Barack Hussein Obama yesterday --- just take a look at this: "Christian Americans have absolutely no right to speak out on the terrorist actions of extreme Islamists and murderous Muslim Terrorists until they have addressed their own sanctioning of violence for years...."

YES, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT OBAMA WAS SAYING YESTERDAY ! --- with similar false premises and similar false conclusions to those later posited by "Mrs. Potatoehead" in the comment of "Anonymous...3:58 AM" above .

  5. Why? Because he spoke the truth? If we as Catholic Christians cannot face the truth about our history than don't expect we can proclaim His Truth. Obama's prayer breakfast message was beautiful and unifying. Stop being apologists for the evils our own faiths committed in the past.

If this person is a woman then it's somebody named "Janet from another planet" --- if it's a guy, it's got to be Barack Hussein Obama, doing his own push back.

Barry Obama is only guy that might say something like this, "If we ... Christians cannot face the truth about our history than don't expect we can proclaim His Truth. Obama's prayer breakfast message was beautiful and unifying...."
    That's pure Obama drivel.

  7. UPDATE: THE “LIBERAL MEDIA REPEATS THE OUTRAGE"

OBAMA’S AND HIS SUPPORTERS’ MESSAGES ARE NOW BECOMING CLEARER: “WE HAVE MET ISIS AND THEY ARE US” OR “WHEN IT COMES TO MUSLIMS, IT’S VERY IMPORTANT FOR CHRISTIANS TO BE SELF-CRITICAL TO THE POINT OF DOUBTING THEMSELVES”

The first such article that I saw was in the Washington Post; and it said this, among other things*: “President Obama has never been one to go easy on America. *** As a new president, he dismissed the idea of American exceptionalism, noting that Greeks think their country is special, too. He labeled the Bush-era interrogation practices, euphemistically called “harsh” for years, as torture. America, he has suggested, has much to answer given its history in Latin America and the Middle East. *** His latest challenge came Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast. At a time of global anxiety over Islamist terrorism, Obama noted pointedly that his fellow Christians, who make up a vast majority of Americans, should perhaps not be the ones who cast the first stone....” ( See “Critics pounce after Obama talks Crusades, slavery at prayer breakfast” by Juliet Eilperin, 1/5/15 [but very late in the evening], Washington Post [http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/obamas-speech-at-prayer-breakfast-called-offensive-to-christians/2015/02/05/6a15a240-ad50-11e4-ad71-7b9eba0f87d6_story.html]).

The gist of the WaPo article is that Obama has repeatedly let everybody know that, in so many ways, he is willing to look at America as the bad guy. So when it comes to questioning the religious beliefs of ISIS and other Islamic extremists, saying that American Christians shouldn’t get on their high horse, because it was their Christian beliefs that are often behind what has made America a bad guy in the world, is simply being consistent.

“The Atlantic” saw fit to set up its own straw man of the crypto-religious underpinnings of the American Confederacy in an effort to provide cover for the president, and salve the political wounds resulting from Obama’s anti-Christian barbs (See “The Foolish, Historically Illiterate, Incredible Response to Obama's Prayer Breakfast Speech” by Ta-Nahisi Coates, 2/6/15, The Atlantic [http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/02/the-foolish-historically-illiterate-incredible-response-to-obamas-prayer-breakfast-speech/385246/]).

Using a photograph of a KKK fiery-cross as his backdrop, Mr. Coates gives a lengthy quote from Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens, which clearly focused on a religious justification of slavery. Oddly, there is no mention of Christ or Christian teaching in the lengthy quote of VP Stephens that “The Atlantic” used.

Not content with that, Ta-Nahisi Coates decided that he needed to get into the Obama American-Christian bashing act himself with his penultimate gem: “Pointing out that Americans have done, on their own soil, in the name of their own God, something similar to what ISIS is doing now does not make ISIS any less barbaric, or any more correct. That is unless you view the entire discussion as a kind of religious one-upmanship, in which the goal is to prove that Christianity is ‘the awesomest.’...” Of course, Ta-Nahisi saved his best for last, closing with this: “Obama seemed to be going for something more—faith leavened by 'some doubt.' If you are truly appalled by the brutality of ISIS, then a wise and essential step is understanding the lure of brutality, and recalling how easily your own society can be, and how often it has been, pulled over the brink.”

Oh, I get it – “We have met ISIS and they are us.” – And people like Barack Hussein Obama and Ta-Nahisi Coates are just avatars of a “Muslim Pogo.”
    thirty years or so....) .

  8. UPDATE: THE “ARROGANT BUT CONFUSED WHITE HOUSE” EDITION

THE WHITE HOUSE SORT OF DEFENDED THE PRESIDENT FROM SOME OF THE BLOWBACK SURROUNDING HIS NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST SPEECH

ACCORDING TO THE WHITE HOUSE DEPUTY PRESS SECRETARY, AS AMERICANS WE NEED TO BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES

NEITHER OBAMA NOR HIS SPOKESMAN EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THE VOLUME AND INTENSITY OF THE CRITICISM AND OUTRAGE CAUSED BY CERTAIN OF OBAMA'S REMARKS AT THURSDAY'S PRAYER BREAKFAST

Based upon a report of “The Hill,”in its “Blog Briefing Room”: Obama was saying that, as Americans, we ought to “... ‘hold ourselves up to our own values and our own standards,’ deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said aboard the president's flight to Indianapolis, where Obama [would be] speaking at a community college, according to the pool report. *** Obama believes that ‘when we fall short of that, we need to be honest with ourselves,’ Schultz said, noting Obama's ‘belief in American exceptionalism.’ *** ‘The president believes that America is the greatest country on earth, not only because of our military or economic prowess or because we serve in a unique leadership role amongst the international community,’ he added....” ( See “White House defends Prayer Breakfast remarks about the Crusades” by Jesse Byrnes. 2/6/15, The Hill/ Blog Briefing Room [http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/232027-white-house-defends-prayer-breakfast-remarks]). However, there was no explanation as to why Mr. Schults’ remarks did no appear to convey a complete thought about America’s greatness.

There was another major gap in Eric Schultz’ remarks to the press. When asked about the President’s reaction to the intense critical response to some of his remarks at the National Prayer Breafast, “Schultz said he had not spoken with the president about reaction to his remarks at the prayer breakfast. *** ‘But I know that there is a failed presidential candidate and an RNC chairman from the past who have criticized us,’ Schultz said. ‘But I don’t have a response to either of those two people.’...” Again, there was no explanation as to why neither the President nor his press spokesman attempted to make any rebuttal to, or even to make any substantive comment about, the wave of criticism coming from politicians, Christian leaders and just plain folks, along with significant parts of the press and the news media.

  9. The National Catholic Reporter wrote an article applauding Obama's breakfast speech. Jesuit priest Thomas Reese and an America magazine contributor also spoke glowingly of Obama's reminder to us of the truth of the Crusades and how we need to be mindful of the hateful acts perpetrated throughout history in the name of Christ. It is amazing to me how here at this blog you try to "whitewash" the sins of our faith and the errant decisions our Church has made throughout history. Geez, next you'll be claiming that your Sunday envelope is actually being used to help the poor and not to pay for Fr. O'Malley's steak at Peter Lugar's . . . or something.

IT'S AMAZING HOW THE PATTERNS OF THE WARS AGAINST THE NAZIS AND AGAINST THE SOVIETS IS BEING REPLAYED IN THE WAR AGAINST MILITANT ISLAM

ALSO THERE IS ALWAYS SOME VERSION OF A "FIFTH COLUMN" SNIPING AT THE BACKS OF THE DEFENDERS OF THIS SIDE OR THAT

There are plenty of self-hating Catholics, Jews, Protestants and various non-sectarian types that will always side with an enemy. NCR can be relied upon intellectualizing just that way, as a "Fifth Column" inside the Church.

The Crusades and the Inquisition are somewhat problematic issues for many Catholics, especially those who don't want to do the heavy lifting necessary to defend their One True Faith against the anti-Christ. "Anonymous... 3:06 AM" and this NCR guy, Reese, are obviously those kinds of "Fifth Column" Catholics.

NAMES OF MUSLIM LEADERS INVITED TO WHITE HOUSE MEETING RELEASED & CONFIRMED BY OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

ISLAMIC RADICALS INCLUDED IN SIT-DOWN WITH OBAMA, JARRETT, RHODES AND OTHERS

According to a Newsmax and Breitbart News, on Friday the White House released the names of fourteen Muslim “leaders” who met with the President last Wednesday. Said Newsmax, “Among the group — which included a comedian, along with a hijab-wearing basketball player and a handful of left wing activists — were a select few individuals with disturbingly close ties to the global Muslim Brotherhood.... [T]he White House confirmed that Azhar Azeez, President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), was one of the Muslim leaders that met with President Obama. ISNA was founded in 1981 by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The group was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial. Federal prosecutors have previously described how ISNA funneled its money to Palestinian terrorist group Hamas (via Investigative Project)....” (See “ The Muslim Brotherhood Comes to the White House” by Jordan Schachtel, 2/7/15, Newsmax [from Breitbart News] [http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2015/02/07/the-muslim-brotherhood-comes-to-the-white-house/]; see also “Revealed: Names of ... Some additional information provided by Newsmax about the Azhar Azeez that met with the President last week included this: “Azeez’s bio also reveals him as a founding member the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter.... *** In October, 2014, Azeez signed a letter endorsing Sharia Islamic governance. Under the Sharia, non-Muslims are treated as second-class citizens. The Sharia also endorses the hudud punishments in the Koran and Hadiths, which state that apostasy from Islam is punishable by death....”

  12. I found a Galewyn Massey post "from the archives" back when he was blogging during the Kennedy years circa 1962. In it Galewyn writes (I am paraphrasing):

Names of Catholic leaders invited to the White House by Papist President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (Gale always uses middle names for our Presidents - out of respect)have been released!
Newsmax reports that Catholic clergy dressed in black with white collars - one wearing a long dress - have been seen entering the White House. These were a select group of individuals with disturbing ties to the Roman Curia and are known to have direct links to the Vatican. Newsmax goes on to report that non-Catholics are treated as second class citizens and are not permitted to receive Holy Communion. Importantly, Galewyn Massey perceptively points out that this visit took place while at the very same time the Conciliar sessions are going on in Rome. Coincidence? Not according to Massey. This is a deliberate effort to have the Pope take over the United States government. Galewyn then ends his post with an appropriate Broadway lyric from . . . A man for All Seasons, Man of La Mancha, or maybe it was a ditty from Camelot . . .

  13. RESPONSE: THE "LIBERAL RESORT TO FICTION" EDITION

WHEN INCONVENIENT FACTS OR TRUTHS POP UP OR WHEN THEY'RE LOSING AN ARGUMENT - LIBERALS OF ALL DESCRIPTIONS [BUT IN THIS INSTANCE, OBVIOUSLY AN IRISH-CATHOLIC ONE] - CREATE A DIVERSION, TRY TO CENSOR THE TRUTH AND WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS,JUST MAKE SOMETHING UP - HOWEVER, SOMETIMES THAT IS THE FIRST TACTIC ADOPTED

The problem with the fictional analogy posited by "Anonymous... 5:54 AM" is that in 1962, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was waging his war against the atheistic Communists; and the Catholic Church was not trying to establish a worldwide Caliphate, under black and/or green banners with writing that looks like snakes, bugs and stick figures on them.

But enough of all this silly talk, everybody should know that if the problems were similar, and JFK had such a despicable meeting in the White House, as the one described by "Anonymous... 5:54 AM" above; as a fan of and moderator of a blog that pays homage to Ayn Rand, I would have had to condemn that meeting to the accompaniment of show tunes.

BTW, "A Man for All Seasons -- the Musical" --- What a concept !

  14. UPDATE: THE “SUNDAY TALK SHOW ECHO CHAMBER” EDITION

OBAMA’S ANTI-CHRISTIAN REMARKS ARE NOW PART OF HIS PERSONAL NARRATIVE AFTER HE MADE HIS NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST SPEECH AN ATTEMPT AT A SINISTER “SISTER SOULJAH MOMENT”

EVEN LIBERAL COMMENTATOR ANDREA MITCHELL, IN ESSENCE, SAYS THAT OBAMA FOCUSED ON THE WRONG TARGET, AT THE WRONG TIME, AND IN THE WRONG PLACE

The Daily Caller has pointed out that days after President Obama’s remarks about the Crusades and missteps of religions outside of Islam at the National Prayer Breakfast, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell took aim at Obama, calling his words “out of context....” (See “‘You Don’t Use The Word Crusade’: Andrea Mitchell Pans ‘Out Of Context’ Obama Prayer Breakfast Comments [VIDEO]” by Al Weaver, 2/8/15, Daily Caller [http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/08/you-dont-use-the-word-crusade-andrea-mitchell-pans-out-of-context-obama-prayer-breakfast-comments-video/]).

On this morning’s “Meet The Press” program, MSNBC Host Andrea Mitchell told the NBC Sunday Show’s moderator Chuck Todd [also a biggy on MSNBC] that President Obama needs to “deal with the issue that’s in front” of him, namely ISIS, and not “lean over backwards” to invoke the “sins of the fathers.” Mitchell's comments came during a segment about the President’s Prayer Breakfast speech and how conservatives had lashed out at his "offensive" remarks.

Perversely, the NY Times "conservative voice" David Brooks, another member of the "Meet the Press" panel, sort of defended Obama.
