Hillary has already proved that she couldn’t beat a young black guy from the left — How do you think she’ll be able to do with an older white guy from the left ?
Yesterday Bernie Sanders, the “Independent” U.S. Senator from Vermont told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki why he thinks the country needs "a political revolution" and why it would be "a real clash of ideas" if both he and Hillary Clinton should decide to run for president during 2015-2016 (See “Bernie Sanders: A Hillary Clinton matchup would be 'a real clash of ideas'” [video link of interview by Steve Kornacki] 2/7/15, MSNBC/ Up with Steve Kornacki [http://www.msnbc.com/up/watch/sanders--clinton-match-would-be-clash-of-ideas-395690051847]).
According to a report that appeared in Newsmax about the Sanders-Kornacki MSNBC interview , “Sanders said his agenda could win despite a GOP Congress if progressive candidates can rally enough Americans, ‘giving the Republicans an offer they can’t refuse, yes, we can be successful... We may not get everything we want. I think we can push the Republicans to raise the minimum wage a lot higher than it is right now,’ he said” (See “Bernie Sanders Sees 'Real Clash of Ideas' With Clinton in a 2016 Contest” by Todd Beamon, 2/7/15, Newsmax [http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Sanders-Clinton-2016-president/2015/02/07/id/623416/]).
Sanders told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki that. "We need a political revolution in this country.... We need to get people once again actively involved in the political process and take on the people who have the real power in America." He also argued for improving the nation's "crumbling" infrastructure, as well as creating a living wage and a "national health care program that guarantees health care to all of our people."
Sanders said, his agenda would primarily focus on income inequality, pointing out that the United States has "more wealth and income inequality" since 1929, and that "the middle class is continuing its 40-year decline.”
The Green Party in NYS has column C, and WFP says they are with Elizabeth Warren.
ReplyDeleteRemember 1980 Presidential race, or was that before your time?
Reagan carried NY because Carter didn't have column D. John Anderson did.
Hillary needs to hire Malcom Smiths consultants to buy those Wilson Pakulas.
Hillary will have the Democratic nomination and will see 1984 all over again except this time it will trust a woman into the Presidency and make history. She'll get 49 out of 50 states. That's my prediction.
ReplyDeleteNo need for Wilson-Pakula's here. But really Malcolm Smith? Um, he got caught. If one is looking to hire a consultant you go to the one who never got caught - the one who bought and got bought but never got caught. You go to the Prince of Pakula's- his consultants are looking for work these days anyway . . .
Do you think Reagan had Alzheimer's in 1980 or did the onset not begin until 82?
Hillary has every consultant that any leading candidate might want, and she also has a lot more that every other Democratic candidate might want. In spite of that, if you're talking about candidacies for President in 2016, Hillary Clinton will be yesterday's news by the time of the 2016 Kentucky Derby -- the Preakness at the latest.
ReplyDeleteWhen you think Hillary think Secretariat and the Triple Crown. She's no Ruffian. She's closer to Affirmed. The run for the roses is hers.
ReplyDeleteI like your horce racing reference. The sport of poor Irishmen from Queens.
UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “BATTLE OF THE BRAIN-DAMAGED” EDITION
ReplyDeleteIT’S “BACK TO THE FUTURE” FOR DEMOCRATS — IF IT’S BIDEN IN A RACE AGAINST HILLARY CLINTON ISN’T IT SOME TIME BEFORE 2008 ?
THOUGH BIDEN IS LIKED BY MANY DEMOCRATS IN IOWA, HE IS WELL BEHIND HILLARY AND SOMEWHAT BEHIND WARREN IN A RECENT IOWA POLL
HUFF-PO POINTS OUT THAT, IF ELECTED, BIDEN WOULD BECOME THE OLDEST PRESIDENT
Vice President Joe Biden, who is sort of an underdog for the Iowa caucuses for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, is scheduled to be back in Iowa next week. The reason that Biden isn’t an actual underdog is that he is not a candidate nor are any of the people that are ahead of him in the recent polls.
Sources familiar with preparations for his trip told The Des Moines Register that Vice President. Biden will speak in Des Moines on Thursday; and His office later confirmed that he will deliver remarks at Drake University and do a roundtable at Des Moines Area Community College on college affordability.
Any time well-known politicians of either party make a trip to Iowa, it reinforces the idea that those politicians have an interest in running for the top political job in the country. So Biden's timing suggests that he wants to keep his name in the mix as a potential presidential candidate (See “Biden to make Iowa trip next week” by Jennifer Jacobs, 2/6/15, Des Moines Register [http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2015/02/06/biden-to-make-iowa-trip-next-week/22997139/]).
The Des Moines Register’s article by Jennifer Jacobs also pointed out that Joe Biden has a network of connections in Iowa after having run for president there both in 1987 and 2007. Needless to say, he also campaigned extensively in Iowa with Barack Obama in 2008 and as Vice President on the ticket with Obama in 2012. Although Biden has been described by Iowa Democrats as forceful, engaging and direct, an Iowa Poll in September 2012 found that 47 percent of Iowans considered Biden a drag on the ticket.
A January 26-29, 2015 Iowa poll found that, among Democratic activists, opinions of Biden are pretty high. He is viewed favorably by 78% of likely 2016 Democratic caucus goers and only 20% percent have negative views of him. Biden’s popularity among core Democratic voters is almost as high as that of Hillary Clinton, who polled 84% favorable. The bad news for Biden is that he is the first choice of just 9 percent of likely Iowa caucus goers. By comparison Clinton is the top choice for 56 percent and Elizabeth Warren, the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, is the first choice for 16 percent.
In its version of this story, the Huffington Post noted that “... [i]f Biden, 72, were to be elected president in 2016, he would take office at age 74, making him the oldest person ever to do so. Former President Ronald Reagan, the current record holder, assumed the office at age 69....” ( See “Joe Biden Stirs 2016 Speculation With Iowa Trip” by Igor Bobic, 2/7/15, Huffington Post [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/07/joe-biden-iowa-2016_n_6636156.html]).
I heard Jeb Bush speak today and he sounds to the left of Hillary. Thats why he can win.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: THE “DO THESE PEOPLE GET A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT THEY SAID ?” EDITION
ReplyDeleteBLOOMBERG NEWS’ MARK HALPERIN SAYS THE DEMOCRATS HAVE A DEEP BENCH AND THAT HILLARY CLINTON IS THE MOST LIKELY NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES — IF..., IF..., IF... and IF... SOME MORE --- ONLY ONE OF THOSE WAS AN OBVIOUS JOKE
DOES WHAT HALPERIN SAID SOUND LIKE AN “INEVITABILITY ARGUMENT” TO YOU ?
WAS HALPERIN’S VELVET GLOVE TREATMENT OF HILLARY REALLY A VELVET DAGGER — ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SAYS SHE NEEDS TO BE “REINTRODUCED” ?
THINK ABOUT THAT: "HILLARY CLINTON" --- "REINTRODUCED"
SERIOUSLY ? I MEAN, SERIOUSLY !
Yesterday in the middle of a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Mark Halperin of Bloomberg News said this: “Look, I think it's a little bit of a fallacy to say the Democrats have no bench. They have Joe Biden, they have John Kerry, they have Jerry Brown, they have Martin O'Malley, they've got people who could step in if [Hillary Clinton] falters...."
I'm sure that was just pure comic relief.
Right after that, though, Halperin got serious, "... But right now, [Hillary Clinton] is so far and away the most likely next president of the United States. *** If she performs....” (See “Halperin: Hillary Clinton ‘Most Likely Next President Of The United States’ " 2/8/15, Real Clear Politics [http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2015/02/08/halperin_hillary_clinton_most_likely_next_president_of_the_united_states.html]; see also “How is Hillary Prepping for 2016" by Jonathan Karl [with video link to “Powerhouse Roundable” including Mark Halperin], 2/8/15, ABC News/ This Week With George Stephanopoulos [https://thescene.com/watch/abcnews/how-is-hillary-clinton-prepping-for-2016]).
But that wasn’t everything that Halperin said. In fact, if you read the rest of what he said, you’ll be wondering what his pitch for Hillary was really all about.
Here was Halperin’s money line in response to Stephanopoulos’ incredulousness to what he said above; and it pretty much is his attempt at describing Hillary’s money shot at becoming the next President of the United States: “If she performs the electoral college and demographic advantages of the Democratic nominee, whoever it is, are pretty substantial. If she performs, if she shows authenticity, more than anything else. If she shows people who she really is and has a second chance to introduce herself, I think it would be very hard to beat her if she performs....”
At its root, Halperin is describing part of the “Inevitability Argument” that has been trotted out as the body guard around Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. It’s the argument that goes like this: “Hillary should be the Democratic candidate in 2016 because it’s inevitable that she will be the Democratic candidate in 2016; and if she is the Democratic candidate in 2016, she will certainly win." However, look at all of Halperin’s “If she performs...” lines — there are three of them.
In addition, one of those “If...” lines has two parts; and there’s the rub. Halperin says this: “... if she shows authenticity, more than anything else. If she shows people who she really is and has a second chance to introduce herself, I think it would be very hard to beat her if she performs....”
Is he serious ? I mean is he seriously serious ? — Hillary Clinton needs a second chance to “...reintroduce herself...” AND WHY ? To show that she has “...authenticity more than anything else...” and to “...show[ ] people who she really is...” BTW, Jonathan Karl called this particular aspect of Hillary Clinton’s campaign “Relateability...”
What I think is that for some reason, yesterday on the George Stephanopoulos program, Mark Halperin shoved a rhetorical stiletto into Hillary and her campaign. I'm shocked, that somehow, the Republicans on that “Powerhouse Panel” completely missed it. And so it goes.
Hillary can lose the primary but it isnt going to be to Sanders or Warren.
ReplyDeleteMcGovern would be a more viable choice and hes dead
If Gary Hart entered hed win
ReplyDeleteHillary will be the Democratic nominee and then our first female President. Everything and everyone else is just a distraction. She will win by a landslide. And if the convention comes to Brooklyn so much the better!
ReplyDeleteI thought you meant Elizabeth McGovern.
ReplyDeleteShe'll soon be finished with her gig on "Downton..." I think she's wonderful and would make a great President.
Downtown is anti-Irish and you shouldn't watch it.
ReplyDeleteIt's no such thing. Where did you get that idea?
ReplyDeleteI read it in an editorial in the Irish Echo. They called it a Rule Brittania sentiment that makes all the Irishmen on the series appear to be boorish drunkards.
ReplyDeleteWatch the show Call the Midwife its much better.
