New Republican Blog Seems very Familiar with a Russ Gallo Attack on Orthodox Jewish Activist Joseph Hayon for Pushing Democrats as Republicans

Russell Gallo resumes longtime feud with one of the handful of Orthodox Jewish activists in the Brooklyn GOP  —   Fight over getting the GOP line for Ben Akselrod in 2014 goes back to Brooklyn GOP endorsement meeting  —  Fight with Hayon goes back much further

According to Gallo, “Hayon is and always will be the Jewish Al Sharpton....”

Russell Gallo came out of his corner throwing haymakers like these: “This November there will  be candidates on both the Republican and Democratic lines for the assembly seat in Brooklyn's 45th.  Steven Cymbrowitz (D) will be on the Democratic column and Ben Akselrod (D) will be on the Republican column. ***   How can this be you ask? ***   “...In this instance however, there are a couple of political whores, that claim to be Republican, that helped secure the Republican line for a Democrat through an opportunity to ballot petition that allowed people (about 60 of them...) to write in a candidate's name on primary day. This form of voting is fraught with errors and fraud....” (See “Brooklyn's 45th Assembly District: Two Democrats on the Ballot and a Political Whore Run Amok” by Russell Gallo, 9/28/14, Behind Enemy Lines  —  Blogging-From-Within  [http://www.behindenemylinesradio.us/2014/09/brooklyns-45th-assembly-district-two.html?m=1]).  From there Mr. Gallo went on to discuss the key players in the 45th A.D.: Democrat Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Democrat Assembly Candidate Ben Akselrod and Orthodox Jewish GOP activist Joseph Hayon  —  all three in caustic terms and  less than laudatory tones. The pinnacle of Gallo’s pugnacious pejorative pasting was preserved for Mr. Hayon — “Joseph Hayon is a RINO and a political whore; among other things....”

The new blog looks a lot like its predecessor the “Brooklyn GOP Radio  -Official- Show Blog” ....

Reached for a comment, about the new blog and Gallo’s post, Mr. Hayon seemed unruffled and actually responded by pointing out, in a matter-of-fact way, that enough good Republican voters voted for Mr. Akselrod for him to win the GOP “write-in” primary in the 45th A.D. However, with all the brouhaha over his failing to get the GOP Wilson-Pakula before petitioning, and his  poor showing in the recent Democratic Primary, it isn’t clear now whether Ben Akselrod will file an acceptance and take the GOP line after all. Another item that Hayon wanted to comment upon was this criticism by Gallo: “Mr. Hayon does not support Congressman Michael Grimm or State Senator Marty Golden; both Republicans running for reelection this year.”  Hayon’s reply was again sort of matter-of-fact, “I thought Gallo didn’t support either one of them himself.”

Ah, it's almost like the old "...Jig is Up Atlas" days.  Good times, good times !

  1. Forgive my naivete, but is this the same Russell Gallo who aided and abetted Republican Joe Hynes race-baiting and fear-mongering scorched earth failed campaign for District Attorney last year? Indeed, I am sure it is. The Brooklyn Young Republicans led by Gallo and a man with red hair organized the leafleting of hate literature on behalf of Republican Hynes in front (and inside of) three Catholic Churches on Sundays during the campaign. They also leafleted the NYC Marathon as the runners ran through Bay Ridge. There was Russ Gallo actively supporting the campaign of a long-term Democrat Joe Hynes clothed as a Republican for the election.

Russell Gallo himself pushed Democrat Joe Hynes as a Republican. And in doing so participated in the worst fear-mongering of the Brooklyn community since Al Sharpton marched down 18th avenue 25 years ago. Who then more appropriately deserves the Sharpton comparison?

  2. Gale,

You have a better chance of finding 2 identical snow flakes on top of a unicorn's head than finding 2 people that will admit they like Joseph Hayon.

    Gallo is spot on.

  3. What exactly does Hayon contribute to political discourse in general? I've never understood why people care about him.

  4. Gale,

Your characterization of Hayon as a Jewish activist misses Gallo's point completely; probably intentionally...

Hayon is on the Brooklyn REPUBLICAN Executive Committee but works to get democrats elected while there are republicans in the race!

Even you should see something wrong there.

Gallo called him a whore. I think political Judas is more appropriate.

  6. RESPONSE: THE "TO ALL OF THE ABOVE" EDITION

YES -- BROOKLYN REPUBLICANS OCCASIONALLY DO SUPPORT DEMOCRATS -- HAYON HAS DONE IT -- GALLO HAS DONE IT -- STATE SENATOR GOLDEN HAS DONE IT -- AND EVEN THIS BLOG HAS DONE IT

If the Brooklyn GOP were strong and competitive across all, or even most, of Brooklyn maybe things could be different....

But, things are the way they are... at least until somebody changes them, if that ever will happen.

  7. MODERATOR'S STATEMENT: THE "HOUSEKEEPING MOVE" EDITION

The comment below was moved from it's former place above so that my comment above would be seen in its proper context:

    "Anonymous said...
Russell has a thing for Orthodox Jews. He expects Orthodox Jews to give up their religious beliefs to vote for a Republican.

    Newsflash...

Republicans are supposed to support religious freedom -- but not RINO Gallo.

  14. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "AMID ALL THE KIBBITZING" EDITION

AKSELROD FILES ACCEPTANCE AND WILL BE CANDIDATE FOR 45th AD ASSEMBLY ON REPUBLICAN LINE

Democrat Ben Akselrod has filed his acceptance at the BOE and will be on the GOP line for the Assembly in the 45th AD, running against incumbent Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz. It is still not clear how hard Mr. Akselrod is going to run as the Republican candidate in the run-up to the November Elections.

  15. The history of Russell Gallo

Name one Orthodox Jewish or Russian Jewish candidate Russell supported ...

None. Makes no difference the party affiliation.

Years back when such allegations were made, Russell took affirmative action steps (very Democratic) to become friends with Orthodox Jewish Jacob Kornbluh.

That "friendship" lasted a few days.

After that friendship fell, Russell continued to disrespect Orthodox Judaism when he scheduled an executive meeting on Passover 2014 to exclude Orthodox Jews.

  17. Friends of Russell Gallo Edition:

A quick query of the NYS BOE website shows that Gallo has in fact supported both Jewish and Russian candidates financially.

I know Gallo and can vouch for his actual "boots on the ground" strategy for these same candidates.

  19. OOPS !: THE "I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS" EDITION

Of course I meant "... CHORUS OF 'NATIONAL BROTHERHOOD WEEK' " just the way Tom Lehrer wrote it and sang it.

  20. Everyone appreciates Tom Lehrer's wit but his lyrics were often sexist and not inclusive of women. The title above is lacking in gender neutrality. This is not to say that Lehrer's lack of inclusiveness of the female gender is necessarily imparted to you just because you referenced his song. But it is important to be conscious of gender inclusive terms since females also read your blog.

I write the above with all due respect owed (see previous comment from away back on the sincerity of this).

  21. RESPONSE: THE "IT ISN'T OUR FAULT" EDITION

I think that at the time he wrote the the song, the week in February, to which he was referring was called "National Brotherhood Week"....

I'm pretty sure Tom Lehrer's song was entitle "National Brotherhood Week" and the chorus uses that phrase over and over....

How else could I have referred to the song without using its name or its repeated main chorus ?

Maybe, you should reach out to Tom Lehrer to change it....

I bet he'd write a song about you....

  22. I saw this as an opportunity to provide a "teaching moment" for your readers particularly since this thread references the more Neanderthal men among the local Republican community. I trust you want to maintained an enlightened readership and this was my chance to contribute to that.

Today if the song were written it would be Brotherhood and Sisterhood. You could have included that word in parentheses actually to alert us to your awareness of that. We are trying to get the Lectionary changed on this very issue with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. A petition is going around.

  23. RESPONSE: THE "NEANDERTHALS ARE COMPLAINING" EDITION

I've gotten calls from one of the two people trying to conduct their personal comment war on this thread. Your post-feminist gender-inclusiveness advocacy is interfering with the personal and group animus contest that they seem to have going on.

How about a third chorus of "National Brotherhood Week" ....
everybody now, brothers and sisters alike...
