The latest buzz is that “Republicans for Change” are turning their petitions over to the Lhota Mayoral Campaign for filing — And, that Tim Cochrane will probably be their candidate for Kings County Republican Chairman

The final details of the Golden-backed petitioning effort apparently are being bumped-upstairs to the City-wide Lhota legal team; and Golden’s front group looks like it’s going for an apparent Eaton-clone to beat Brooklyn’s current GOP Chairman, Craig Eaton

While many Brooklyn Republicans are busy – cleaning, binding and filing their petitions, some of my Baker Street Irregulars report that the “Republicans for Change” faction is depending on the Lhota folks to file their petitions at the Board of Elections. If this is true, it shows a weakness in a key part of the organizing effort behind Golden’s frontal assault on the current Brooklyn GOP leadership team headed by County Leader Craig Eaton, who are binding and filing their own petitions.

Meanwhile, on another front in the war inside the GOP, it’s beginning to look like Timothy J. Cochrane is Golden’s choice to succeed Craig Eaton as Republican County Leader. I’ve been told that Tim Cochrane has made introductory calls to certain key Republicans active in the 2013 organizational races, and he told them that he might be seeking their support for the position of GOP County Chairman, if as expected, they are elected to the Republican County Committee.

Cochrane describes himself as a life-long member of the Republican Party, and that he has been chairman of the Kings County Republican Party Finance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Kings County Republican Party. In addition, in  2011, Tim Cochrane briefly put himself forward and  actively pursued the Republican nomination for the 9th district of New York. in a special-election run for congress for the seat vacated by Anthony Weiner, which was ultimately won by Republican Bob Turner; and in 2007 he actually ran for the congressional seat vacated by Vito Fossella.

What makes all of that a little odd is the fact that in 2011 Bay Ridgeite Cochrane didn’t live in the Weiner district, and that the Republicans and Conservatives in Queens were lining up behind Bob Turner, who had already run a strong race against Weiner, actually winning in Brooklyn, in the immediately prior election. More problematic than what Tim Cochrance did in 2011 was what Cochrane did in 2007; at that time Cochrane actually ran on the Conservative Party line AGAINST the Republican nominee in the special election to fill Vito Fossella’s seat. Because of that and other problems between the Republican and Conservative Parties in Brooklyn and Staten Island, the Democrats won the seat, making Michael McMahon the congressman.

Tim Cochrane is married and has four children. In addition, he has been active in a variety of civic activities, among them: as Development Chairman for Xaverian High School; as Trustee and Chairman of the Development Committee for Daytop Village; as Trustee of the YMCA Expansion Board; as a founding member of the Sisters of Life Advisors; as an officer in the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn; and as member on Community Board 10.

In business, Timothy J. Cochrane listed himself in 2011 as the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Empire Managed Properties, which he described as one of the New York area’s most innovative building management companies. Prior to that Cochrane had  a 23 year career on Wall Street, culminating in membership on the New York Stock Exchange and  a Partnership at Prime Executions Inc. Before Timothy J. Cochrane began his Wall Street career, he had completed a four year tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps, from which he received an honorable discharge in 1985.

In many ways it looks like Marty Golden is doing exactly what he did in 2007, when he pushed the current Republican Chairman Craig Eaton forward as his hand-picked candidate for Brooklyn GOP County leader. In many ways, Tim Cochrane is a virtual clone of Craig Eaton  —  a middle-aged Bay Ridge Catholic man, who is deeply involved in his personal business activities and a variety of community involvements that demand his time and attention.

This raises important questions about Golden’s efforts with “Republicans for Change”  —  what reason or justification has been put forward  by "Republicans for Change" for the removal of Craig Eaton as GOP County Leader ?  How does somebody like Tim Cochrane show any promise for improvement, or for that matter for change of any kind  whatsoever ?   How those questions are answered will go a long way toward determining whether Eaton stands or falls  —  at least among the undecideds..

  1. Timmy Cochrane would be the best thing for the current Brooklyn GOP. What a briliant choice. A high school graduate-very impressive. He is weak...cannot hold a job...cannot open a successful business....in 2011 he started a business which failed...now he is selling hotdogs in a cart - no - in a Windmill....he RAN on the Conservative Line AGAINST a REPBULICAN which forced the REPUBLICAN party to lose the Fossella Seat to McMahn for two years. What a great choice Gerry Kassar...or is it Marty Golden. Who is the actual boss around there anyway? I am sure Craig would be very happy to have Timmy as his opponent....

  3. SIDE STORY & BACKGROUND: An interesting aspect of the post above were my attempts to verify various points of the article with Mr. Timothy J. Cochrane. I called him twice and got one incomplete and one very strange response to my calls. The first was a single-ring call to my phone from Cochrane's number, and the second was a strange call from a less than fully informed intermediary.

The intermediary, who is a GOP candidate in 2013 and a trusted friend, wanted to be able to convey my assurances to representatives of Tim Cochrane that I was not a supporter of Craig Eaton or otherwise opposed to Tim Cochrane's run for GOP County Leader.

I told my friend that I considered myself to be formally neutral and that I expected to remain so 'til the last moment (there also was an explanation of how I would make my judgment that is too complicated to go through now). I also said that it had been hours since my calls and that I intended to do my post without Mr. Cochrane's input. That ended any attempts by either side in this sordid business to reach the other.

  5. Why would I be calling Craig Eaton ? Perhaps, you think that I should have asked him if he agreed that Tim Cochrane was an "Eaton-clone" ?

I assumed that he would not....

Btw, none of what I would have asked Mr. Cochrane would have involved any question about his agreement with the proposition that he is an "Eaton-clone" either.

I would have assumed that he would not, as well....

  6. UPDATE & BACKFILL: Only a few of my Baker Street Irregulars have reported in.

The most recent buzz at the BOE is that the “Republicans for Change” are making claims that they have over 800 County Committee “in the bank,”.... Meanwhile, the “County...” election team thinks that they will be getting 47th AD State Committee Candidate Peter Cipriano “off at the Board” for inadequate signatures.

The Brooklyn GOP came up light with only around 300 signatures for its 44th Council District candidate Joseph Hayon. If all his signatures are good at the BOE, Hayon should make the ballot, because his nine volume petition adds up to over 700 total signatures. The bulk of Hayon's signatures were provided by an independent group led by Nachman Caller.

As for the GOP State and County Committee fights, it looks like both sides are “all in” in the 46th AD. LaGuardia Club candidates Marcus Nussbaum & Lucretia Regina-Potter filed Monday, and look solid at 1000+ signatures, and 69 County Committee unchallenged at the BOE. The Seergy Club slate of Clorinda Annarrummo and Dominic Sarta filed their last volume last night at 10:50, and several challenges will probably be made by their opponents for a variety of errors and obvious irregularities on the Annarummo and Sarta petitions.

Two Democratic challengers for DA appear to have enough signatures to qualify for a September Democratic Primary against incumbent Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes, who is also the unchallenged Republican candidate for DA. Running with some Regular Democrat support, Candidate Kenneth Thompson filed about 24,000 Democratic signatures, with The Bay Ridge Dems filing 2082 signatures for non-Bay Ridge Dem Thompson; and independent Democrat candidate Abe George has filed over 20,000 signatures. Candidate George should ruled "on at the Board," because his signatures were not challenged at the BOE

  7. UPDATE: more precincts have been heard from....

A key operator for the Kings County Republican Organization reports that the "Republicans for Change" State Committee candidates in the 45th and 47th ADs along with much of their County Committee slate will not be appearing on the Republican primary ballot this year. If the errors and omissions apparent on the State Committee petitions are typical of what was done with much of their County Committee slate, many of the "Republicans for Change" County Committee candidates in the 45th and 47th will be falling as well.

It also appears that there are multiple objections to the petitions of Republican City Council candidate David Storobin.

    2. Speaking of THE K man ... Knucklehead why did he pay the BOE for a copy of the defective and insufficient petition for Peter Cipriano that was filed at the board for the 47th AD "Republicans for Change" candidate. Is there some trouble in paradise between THE K man and THE PC man ?

  9. The K Man is more than just a knucklehead. He is a conninving useless old man who has never held a private sector job in his entire life. He also uses his Cons Pty hat to attack and hurt the GOP locally and in the County, City and State.....PS: His Conservative Exec Committee member Karen Frischer is now working for a democratic City Council Candidate running against the Cons candidate Andy Sullivan....you just cant make this stuff up...the Conse Party chair once again helping a Democratic canddiate......and dont forget how the K Man supported a Dem over Storobin last year in the Senate race...the joke there is that Storobin is so stupid that he must have forgotten that because he is in bed with K Man now.....you see, the Cons pty is not about principal any more, it is about greed and...well you know.....K man should be investigated for all his years of "public service"....a lot of skeletons in that box....

    1. Don't lose focus --- there is one main villain and his name is Marty Golden. He cooked up this Republicans for Change thing as a wrecking crew job on the whole Brooklyn GOP --- probably as part of a plan before he bolts the Republican Party to become either an IDC Democrat like Diane Savino or a Simcha Felder-type Democrat. Marty Golden has had deals with Savino for a long long time and a deal with Felder since last year.

  10. He should not lose focus, but Anonymous at 9:48 am is 10000% correct. K is the guy who runs Golden's brain...remember you said he was a police office...too much booze and too much of everything else.....K exerts a lot of control over Golden. a Lot of control from what I hear and see.

  11. My name is Omar and I am from Egypt and have lived in Bay Ridge for over 20 years and a friend of mine went over to Senator Golden's office for some help and my friend came and told us that his office was of no help to him and sort of told him they could not help and the lady at he front desk appeared to be very nice, but they do not have a clue what it means to be Arabic or the problems that we face in Bay Ridge. We than proceeded to talk to a person and I forget his name from the Young Republicans on I believe 17th Avenue and they were very helpful to us in the Arab community and with that now we will be working hard the next time he runs Senator Golden to remove him from office and we are banding together with our Chinese friends to make sure of this.
He might have been Golden at one time to the Irish Community but he better look around and understand the flavor of his districts has changed and the same thing applies to Congressman Grimm who is of no use to us also for all he cares about it seems is Olive Oil and not the real issues that effect us as Arab Americans and we do love this country. So both of these gentlemen will have a very hard time getting the Arab and the Chinese vote the next time around. May Allah bless you all Omar from 4th Avenue

    1. Am I detecting a pattern with several of these recent comments, or is it just my imagination ? Hmmmm .... Both MG and JK are either treated as equal villains or even that JK is portrayed as the bigger villain of the two.

For example, in this one Peter Cipriano's purported "girlfriend" misspells Peter's name. Oddly, up above appears the name, "Karen Frischer" --- what are the chances that both people in this couple would have their names misspelled in two closely linked comments.

Then there is Omar from Egypt and Mary Dunn from County Cork. These very different commentators share an almost identical way of describing MG and/or JK.

I tried to call but I was told the Mail Box was full why don’t you send your people’s into are community and explain to us and the Chinese community why this person who you are supporting would be good for us as Mayor and we are trying to communicate with you, but your people and John Catsimatidis have to come into Bay Ridge and China Town 8th Avenue and he has to show us he can relate to us and he is concerned and will help us and he must keep his word Thank You Omar and may Allah be with you all.

They sure could. Paul J. Massey, Jr., together with his partner Robert. Knakal, founded what has become New York City's largest investment property sales brokerage firm.
