In addition to an undercurrent of local scepticism about the bungled police investigation and local political involvement following the first killing in July 2012, now the foreign press is asking some relevant and troublesome questions about the charges now being pursued by law enforcement against "Staten Islander" Salvatore Perrone
More than a week after his arrest, "The international Business Times" jumped all over the fact that "...Serial Killer Suspect Salvatore Perrone Bears No Resemblance to Original Police Sketch." According the IBT report by Ewan Palmer, "Questions are being asked of New York police after they charged a man with the murder of three Brooklyn shopkeepers - even though he bears no resemblance to the initial sketch of the suspect. *** Salvatore Perrone, 64, could face life imprisonment if convicted of the murder of three shopkeepers, all of Middle eastern descent, in a five-mile radius in the Brooklyn area of New York. *** Perrone is white, balding and sports a moustache. However the original sketch issued by the New York Police Department [NYPD] depicted a young African-American man with a shaved head." In an off the cuff remark at a press conference, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly mentioned that the man in the sketch had been interviewed by police and he just didn't pan out as a viable suspect for these killings
Before that, The Times Of Israel published a report showing some doubts about the "Garment salesman arrested in New York over deaths of Jewish shopkeepers." The article opened with the following lead, "Initially authorities thought the killer targeted the victims because of their Middle Eastern backgrounds, a theory that is now in doubt." According to the Israel Times UPI report, " Police said they believe Perrone carried the murder weapon in the bag and traveled by subway." However, it has been reported in other press reports that Perrone made many other stops in many other neighborhoods on the evening of the last killing; and one has to wonder how he did all that traveling on the subway in the time span involved.
The Uk's Daily Mail wern to great lengths to point out that Pererone "is not the first person-of-interest in the case. " According to the Daily Mail, a number of other suspects have been identified as "persons of interest, but thay have since been ruled out. *** Previously unidentified suspects, dubbed ‘Jane Doe Green Jacket’ and ‘John Doe Bubble Jacket’, were on the police’s watch list since they were seen in the area of Vahidipour’s shop at the time of the murder. *** They have since been eliminated from the suspect pool as it turns out that ‘Green Jacket’ stole a bottle of perfume from street vendor ‘Bubble Jacket’ who was chasing after her following the theft. *** Two remaining possibilities are ‘Jane Doe Long Coat’, a woman who was seen near the crime scene wearing sunglasses and a scarf. *** There also was a police sketch released following the first murder that took place earlier in the summer at a 99 cent store that left Mohammed Gebeli dead on July 6. That possible suspect was a man with dark skin and wearing sunglasses, who witnesses described as being ‘disturbed’ and talking to himself about putting a bullet in someone’s head. *** That man is said to be roughly 5-foot-5 and around 140 pounds."

One of my Baker Street Irregulars sent me word about the possibility that the Brooklyn DA's office is the law enforcement source for a lot of the leaked information in the "John Doe Duffle Bag" case, but there is much more that Sal Perrone needs to worry about DA Hynes. There have been reports that Hynes' Office shapes the evidence to fit the DA's cases and the DA's Office coaches their witnesses as to the fine details to fit the other prosecution evidence. For an example, see the December 5, 2012 article in "The Irish Central" by CATHY HAYES, IrishCentral Staff Writer, "Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes accused of tampering with evidence - innocent man convicted for murder"
