When actual socialists are thanking thanking Ari Kagan, maybe you should reconsider giving him a pass.

  1. When did the DSA ever run an ad for Justin Brannan like the one thanking Ari Kagan that has been shown above? The answer is never.

I wonder how people like Borelli, Ghorra, Kassar, Fran, Fox, McCabe and Seravalli can live with themselves for seeking out this police defunder Kagan, to be their candidate against Justin Brannan, when Brannan always voted to fund the NYPD and other first responders, even during the COVID crisis budget for 2021 that passed in 2020; and overall, most of the time Brannan voted for responsible increases to the NYPD's budgets.

Kagan is not only the lone Republican-Conservative NYPD defunder in 2023 for FY 2024, he has strongly supported police defunding as a left leaning woke Democrat since 2020.

What else would anybody expect from a man like Ari (Arkady) Kagan, who was a lifelong Communist and a Soviet operative until shortly before coming to the United States. In fact, Kagan has bragged online that he got his admissions into the Suvorov Academy in Leningrad and then into an elite military college because of his Communist Party membership; and that he graduated from the eleite military college with a degree in journalism. After graduation, Kagan says that he served in the Soviet Army for 3 1/2 years as an information officer. Lieutenant. Arkady Kagan remained as an officer in the Soviet Army until sometime after after the KGB engineered the military assault on media centers in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1991. At that time, Kagan was an active duty military officer and "journalist" working in neigboring Soviet Latvia with the newspapers "Sovetskiy Tankist" in Dobele and "Dlya Rodiny!" in Riga. During the turmoils and tumult during the two rapid coups in August 1991, including that brief Soviet invasion of Lithuania, Arkady Kagan became morphed into a "civilian" journalist employee by those still in charge in Latvia soon after it became obvious that the KGB-led coup, including the Soviet re-occupation of Lithuania had failed, and the successful Yeltsin-led counter-coup against the Communist hardliners in Moscow was followed by the rapid demise of open Communist and military rule throughout the Soviet Union.

  2. Gail, according to a Times of Israel report in in February of 2017, Kagan's personal history was described like this, "Born in Minsk, Belarus in 1967, Kagan came of age during Glasnost and Perestroika, a time when former president Mikhail Gorbachev encouraged some criticism of Soviet government and the Communist Party. He immigrated to the US in 1993, after working as a reporter for military and civic newspapers in Latvia and Belarus." Maybe that includes some of what you said, but basically it feels very different.

Ari Kagan said that under Glasnost and Perestroika, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev encouraged some criticism of Soviet government and the Communist Party, but U.S. military and intelligence experts have pointed out that Glasnost and Perestroika did not apply to the Soviet military or the KGB. Also, why did Kagan obtain political refugee status only after the fall of the Soviet Communist security state. What details did Kagan provide and claims did Kagan make to the U.S. State Department; and how did they vet him and what he said. And what kind of files exist on Kagan at the State Department, Immigration, the CIA and the FBI.

  3. RESPONSE: THE "IT'S 'GALEWYN' NOT "GAIL" --- AND IT'S NOT 'GALEWYN MASSEY' UNLESS IT'S A FEATURED POST OR A COMMENT UNDER THE 'GALEWYN MASSEY' STYLE AND APPELLATION" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 1:16 PM"

YOUR "GAIL... MAYBE THAT INCLUDES SOME OF WHAT YOU SAID..." >>> FAILS TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY WHO AND WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.....

If you are referring to what was said in the main featured article above this thread of comments, "Galewyn Massey" is the author; however, if you are referring to the comments made by "Anonymous said... at 11:53 AM" --- then that isn't who you are calling "Gail".....

The writing content and form might appear to be similar in some ways, and that comment maker might even be a regular source or contributor --- however, if a comment maker isn't self-identified as "Galewyn Massey" they are not posting their comment as the producer, composer, writer, exhibitor, editor, and moderator of this independent Republican blog for Brooklyn and Staten Island. Sometimes, something in a comment by one of the principal contributors trying to comment as "Galewyn Massy" does not reflect the complete outlook, combined sensibilities, or even the very chageable whims of the editor/moderator; in those times, the comment is passed along and posted with the "Anonymous said..." identifier, and not under the "Galewyn Massey" style and appellation (and occassionally, the editor/moderator will apply the very same standard to his/her own comments).

Whether we agree or disagree, or whether they are by our regular favored comment makers or contributors, as the editor and moderator of all of the "Anonymous said..." comments, all those that we do publish are equal --- they are anonymous comments, not "Galewyn Massey" comments at all.

In answer to your ultimate and penultimate questions, "What details did Kagan provide and claims did Kagan make to the U.S. State Department; and how did they vet him and what he said. [sic] And what kind of files exist on Kagan at the State Department, Immigration, the CIA and the FBI.[sic]" --- please let us answer with this snarky question of our own: WHAT KIND OF RESOURCES DO YOU THINK WE HAVE ON THIS BLOG ???

  6. 1153 & 116, whoever y'all might be, Kagan's personal versions of events and the actual historical timeline show that Lt. Arkady was tryin' hard to get outta Dodge after the Gorbachev regime crashed and burned following the USSR Army invasion of Vilnius, Lithuania, and the failed KGB coup of 1991.

Lt. Arkady Kagan doesn't explain why he didn't lose faith in the Communist system until after January 11-13, 1991 when the Soviet Army stormed the TV tower and a couple of days later attacked Lithuanian civilians gathered at the Vilnius TV tower, killing 14 and wounding more than 500.

Almost two years earlier, there had been a worse massacre of civilians by the USSR Army at Tblisi, Georgia on April 9, 1989, where 21 civilians were killed and several hundred more wounded, while Arkady Kagan says that he remained an officer in that Army for more than two years after that attack on citizens of the Georgian Soviet Republic.
