Faced with severe shortfalls in police recruiting, the City of Memphis, Tennessee greatly relaxed its recruiting standards >>> including specifically two of the five officers involved in the death of Tyre Nichols following an out of control police action in Memphis earlier this month
Only the NY Post and the Fox News outlets have pushed back on a rather outlandish narrative by "woke" extremist leftists aided by the "woke" progressive MSM that have posited >>> the killing of a black man at the hands of five black cops in Memphis was the result of white racism, and a culture of white supremacy --- even though at the present time, the City of Memphis is 65% black, and the Memphis PD is 60% black
According to one Post commentator earlier today --- "Racism didn’t kill Tyre Nichols – moronic, poorly trained cops did..."
According to the NY Post, suspended police officers,Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley, since charged with murder along with three other Memphis police officers, both joined the Memphis Police Department in August of 2020, more than two years after the Memhis Police Department had substantially lowered the educational standardspreviously in place to become an office in that city.
Before Demetrius Haley joined the Memphis Police Department in August 2020, he had been employed as a corrections officer for the Shelby County Corrections Department. And in a 2016 lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for Western Tennessee, Haley was accused of taking part in the beating of an inmate about eight years ago.
On the other hand, From 2016 through 2020, Tadarius Bean studied criminal justice and law enforcement at the University of Mississippi and did an internship with the campus police department, according to his profile. According to the Ole Miss 2020 commencement list, Bean was described as graduating with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.
Officer Emmitt Martin was hired by the Memphis Police Department in March of 2018 and went to Bethel University, a Christian college in McKenzie, Tenn.
Officer Desmond Mills was hired by the Memphis Police Department in March of 2017. At that time he listed his hometown as Hartford, Connecticut, but he also attended college and played football at West Virginia State University.
Officer Justin Smith was hired by the Memphis Police Department in March of 2018.
In addition to that, the Post had reported that >>> despite her history as a careless investigator, the current Memphis police chief, who is still technically in charge of investigating the killing of Tyre Nichols previously had been let go from her prior job as a Deputy Chief in Atlanta. Memphis PD Chief Cerelyn "CJ" Davis became the first black female chief in Memphis in 2021, during the year after George Floyd was killed at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.
Piers Morgan's next NY Post column [posted on-line earlier today] indicated the following:
In the City of Memphis where all of this took place, nearly 60% of the entire Memphis police force is black, as is 65% of the population; what provoked this killing of Tyre Nichols wasn’t about his skin color, it had to do with something else --- and it certainly was the result of poorly trained police officers abusing their positions of power and authotity; and if this really had been was about anti-black racism, the images and circumstances would have triggered riots, assorted mayhem, and even burning cities following what the five Memphis police officers had done.
The problem with police funding is people like Justin Brannen who voted to defund the police budget by 20% in 2020. Of course they'll be a response from Brannen denying the facts regarding the 2020 budget but it rings hollow. Its the same as Justin at the 68th precinct council meetings when he tells us that crime is down in Bay Ridge.

ReplyDeleteThe death of Tyre Nichols was proabably as a result of a nexus of causes including inadequate funding and other resources for the Memphis Police Department. At the same time, another cause was the culture of acceptance of the bad attitudes and behaviors by too many police officers. Large numbers of police officers everywhere across the country, including here in NYC, have those bad attitudes and behaviors. It has been known by sociologists and criminologists for over seventy years that cops' beliefs and attitudes are more reflective of the bad actors they are policing than the public they are protecting. Massive changes are needed; and massive changes will be coming; and this time there will be real defunding coming here to New York.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone in the council race living in Memphis?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has been wondering where John Quaglione has been, he has been busy putting the final touches on a book about the past 50 years in the Brooklyn Diocese which nobody will read.
