For many it's pretty much been decided that --- the City Council showdown in the 47th Counc. Dist. will be Kagan against Brannan

Justin Brannan & Ari Kagan

According to campaign finance filings  >>>  Brooklyn City Council Member Ari Kagan, who recently switched from the Democrat to the Republican Party, has raised less than $10,000 to date in his 2023 reelection bid; and that is a small fraction compared to the over $40,000 hauled in by his former Democrat colleague and current general election competitor Justin Brannan

As the most likely Republican nominee, based on broad support by key Republican leaders in Brooklyn and at the City Council,  Kagan remains undeterred in his quest to unseat his former partisan colleague Brannan.

Although Councilman Brannan has raised substantially more cash in the early going  ---   according to some observers, he has already spent a sizable portion of his campaign funds  ---  and that means Brannan and Kagan appear to have roughly the same amount of cash on hand  ---  and on that score, the race is pretty much even.....

On the GOP side of the fence, Michael Ragusa —  who some  consider the top competitor to Kagan in a Brooklyn GOP primary fight — has more than doubled Kagan’s fund raising effort, bringing in $19,375 in contributions to his campaign since last July  ---  but Ragusa apparently only has $1,044 left in the bank, having spent $18,331 of what he had raised.....

In a wide ranging interview that discussed fund raising and other matters, Ari Kagan emphasized that when it comes down to it, his decades of work in the community will propel his campaign forward  ---  “I have been serving communities of southern Brooklyn for over 30 years in different capacities.... I help people all the time, and people remember this. That’s the thing that will bring me to the finish line everywhere.” (See "City Council showdown: Kagan not deterred by early fundraising deficit in race against Brannan" by Ethan Stark-Miller, 1/21/2023, AM NY/ News    [https://www.amny.com/news/kagan-not-detered-by-early-fundraising-deficit-in-council-race-against-brannan/]).

  1. Gail, this is just another one of your typical Democrats are better than Republicans rants.

The proof is that you only posted Brennan and Kagen's pictures in your comment.

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 3:57 PM"

WE ON THIS INDEPENDENT GOP BLOG FOR BROOKLYN AND STATEN ISLAND HAVE OFTEN PRESENTED WELL-REASONED AND FAIRLY PRESENTED CRITIQUES OF THE BROOKLYN GOP AND ITS OFTEN POORLY-SELECTED CANDIDATES.....

ALTHOUGH IT MIGHT SOMETIMES HAVE APPEARED THAT OUR COMMENTARIES HAVE IMPLIED THAT SOME BROOKLYN DEMOCRATS ARE BETTER THAN SOME OF THEIR REPUBLICAN OPPONENTS --- THE REALITY IS THAT OUR COMMENTARIES MOST OFTEN LAMENTED THE FACT THAT --- AT LEAST LATELY --- MOST OF THE BROOKLYN GOP CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN SO OBVIOUSLY UNSUITABLE FOR A VARIETY OF LEGITIMATE REASONS --- INCLUDING OFFICE HOLDERS LIKE MARTY GOLDEN AND MICHAEL GRIMM

We have never advocated anything like Democrats are better than Republicans --- nor do we believe that to be true, either generally or in most instances.

Also, WRT the photo selection in our main post above, the photos depicted in that post of Ari Kagan and Justin Brannan, were the very same pix as had been posted in the AMNY article cited in our post.

  3. Boss Brannan always wins in the end. Ari, Ragusa, Fox, LaBella, Delfause.... they all don't stand a chance! Only Avery Pereria can save this city!
