Alternative views of reality are part of the debate about crime in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, and the success or failure of local anti-crime efforts

Republican-Conservative candidate Brian Fox's already tortuous and torturous path to the NYC Council, caused by almost continuous errors and ommissions, gaffs and pratfalls  >>>  now appears to have run into a major NYPD roadblock

Latest crime figures from the NYPD, as reported in the local press, seem to back up incumbent Democrat Justin Brannan's claims that crime is down all around the 43rd Council District on his watch

Brian Fox, his campaign team, and his allies would have had everybody believe that things have never been this bad  ---  and that from Bay Parkway out in Bensonhurst down to Shore Road in Bay Ridge the lawlessness rivaled Dodge City and Tombstone when the Earps and Doc Holliday were being kept very busy at the OK Corral and other venues

In an article by Helen Klein in today's local edition of the Brooklyn Reporter the news seems very favorable:  "Crime continues to drop in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, down nearly 16 percent since the beginning of 2021, according to the NYPD....  According to CompStat, which tracks the seven major index crimes, overall crime in the 68th Precinct was down 15.79 percent year to date, as of Sept. 19, putting it well ahead of both the city at large and Brooklyn South, the patrol borough of which the 68th Precinct is a part....  In comparison, citywide crime has gone down .80 percent since the beginning of the year, and crime in Brooklyn South (which is comprised of 13 precincts) is down 4.35 percent since Jan. 1....  Giving the 'favorable crime report is easy for me because of the hard work of the cops,' noted Capt. Andrew Tolson, the commanding officer of the 68th Precinct, during the precinct community council’s September meeting, which was held via Zoom because of the pandemic. But he also stressed that crime reduction is enhanced by the good relationship between cops and community. That, he said, 'helps keep crime low'.... 'It’s extraordinary,' Tolson went on. 'Everyone is on the same page. The community is very involved. Our success is your success, and we are all in this together.' ...  Overall, crime has gone down in the 68th Precinct in six of the seven index crimes: Murder, rape, robbery, felonious assault, burglary and grand larceny auto (GLA), and up in just one, grand larceny....  According to CompStat, murder in the precinct is down 100 percent. By this time in 2020, there had been three murders in the 68th Precinct; this year, so far, there are none....  The crime category that seen the second largest decrease is GLA, which has dropped, year over year, 44.3 percent. According to CompStat, in 2021 there have been 54 GLAS, so far in 2021; at this time last year, there had been 97.."   (See "Crime continues to drop in Ridge, Dyker" by Helen Klein, 9/25/2021, Home/Brooklyn Reporter /Southern Brooklyn/ News   [https://brooklynreporter.com/2021/09/crime-continues-to-drop-in-ridge-dyker/?lp_txn_id=206459]).
Local Councilman Justin Brannan didn't miss the opportunity to do a "Victory Lap" with the great news from the NYPD.   According to the Klein story in the Brooklyn Reporter newspapers, Brannan said this:   ".... 'Our very low local crime numbers are showing what we already knew: Our neighborhoods are some of the safest in all of New York City. Captain Tolson has done a tremendous job, and the men and women of the 68th Precinct go above and beyond every day to keep us safe,'  noted Councilmember Justin Brannan.... 'There are people who will tell you otherwise to serve their own political agendas,' he continued, “but the facts and the stats are clear: Crime here is down and heading even lower. At the end of the day, we are all partners in looking out for each other. Between our precinct, our neighbors and our community leaders, I couldn’t be prouder to play for the best home team in the five boroughs.' ....”

So far there has been no attempt at any damage control by the Fox folks for what looks like a pretty big hole in their boat.....

As we are now past midday on Friday,  nothing but cricketts from Fox and/or the Fox campaign about any of this stuff.

  1. Too bad, so sad!

It's time for Liam to take Brian down to the Lief so Liam can tell Brian, "I told you Brannan was part Irish, and you got his 'Irish' up."

And then they can listen to Dennis Day singing about '... wherever they got his Irish up, Clancy lowered the boom-boom- boom-boom-boom...'

  2. Anyone who thinks crime is down in Bay Ridge does not live in Bay Ridge. Arrests are down not crime.

  3. Justin orchestrated this thing great. Cut police overtime and no arrests.

  4. 1206 & 201, your argument is just like when the Fox crowd attacked the NYPD in the 68th PCT. a while back saying their low crime stats on an earlier Compstat report resulted from police's own goofing off and not doing their jobs in and around Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

  8. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "SUDDENLY, BRIAN FOX IS VERY SHY ABOUT THE ISSUES OF CRIME AND POLICING....."

IT'S BEEN WELL MORE THAN 24 HOURS SINCE THE BIG ARTICLE ABOUT THE CRIME STATISTICS FOR BAY RIDGE AND DKER HEIGHTS APPEARED IN THE BROOKLYN PAPERS --- AND --- NOT A PEEP ABOUT ANY OF IT BY/FROM BRIAN FOX AND/OR HIS CAMPAIGN TEAM

INSTEAD, BRIAN FOX WANTED TO TALK ABOUT WHO SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT BE ON COMMUNITY BOARD 10..... ALL BECAUSE OF WHO SAID WHAT ABOUT ENFORCEMENT OF COVID-19 MANDATES AGAINST NON-COOPERATING LOCAL BUSINESSES

And here, we thought that it was the Democrats that liked to change the subject to COVID-19 when everybody else might be more interested in reports about local crime, and the rates of local crime over time and compared to other places.....

  9. Crime is down in Bayridge. This kills Brian's entire campaign message. Big meeting tonight at Offshore Diner to work on a new strategy. I heard they're even calling in Capano to help but not John Q. Never John Q.

  11. RESPONSE: THE "SIGNALS INTELLIGENCE" EDITION

TO: ALL YOU SPORTS FANS AND HAPPY CAMPERS WATHCING BRIAN FOX PERFORMING HIS DINGLE-DANGLE-DO LATELY

IF YOU WERE FANS OF THE BRIT PBS MYSTERY SERIES "THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE" --- AND YOU WERE PAYING ATTENTION DURING SERIES 1 --- YOU WOULD KNOW THAT NOT SENDING OR RECEIVING A MESSAGE DOES NOT MEAN THAT THERE IS NO MESSAGE, OR THAT NOTHING MEANINGFUL CAN BE LEARNED FROM A PARTICULAR NON-MESSAGING MOMENT

As regular viewers and reviewers of the Brian Fox for City Council Facebook page, the most intersting thing about the Fox team's non-response to the latest COMPstat figures out of the NYPD is not the Fox campaign's failure to address the latest data in a timely fashion, but it is the Fox campaign's sudden extreme slowdown in any meaningful communications whatsoever from the time that the latest NYPD local crime stats came out.

By itself, this is a very significant and important "TELL" from the Fox folks..... Or to put it another way, it's like a boxer's showing that he's been "hurt" by one of his opponent's blows..... In this instance, the boxer is the Foxer....

  16. RESPONSE: THE "JACKING THE NUMBERS OF CARJACKINGS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:06 AM"

THEY SAY THAT FIGURES DON'T LIE, BUT THAT LIARS CAN FIGURE >>> IN THIS INSTANCE, SOMEBODY FIGURED OUT A QUICK WAY TO USE A FACTOID THAT THE NY POST EARLIER HAD SIEZED UPON TO MAKE A HEADLINE AND TO TELL A STORY..... BUT --- NONE OF IT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH BROOKLYN OR ANY PART OF BROOKLYN SPECIFICALLY --- IN FACT NONE OF THE INCIDENTS MENTIONED IN THE NY POST ARTICLE HAPPENED IN BROOKLYN

SOMEHOW THE DISHONEST COMMENTER AT 10:06 AM DISINGENUOUSLY HAS TRIED TO CONNECT THE INFO IN TODAY'S NY POST ARTICLE (FIRST POSTED ONLINE YESTERDAY) TO JUSTIN BRANNAN, THE DEMOCRAT INCUMBENT CITY COUNCIL MEMBER FROM THE 43RD COUNCIL DISTRICT --- HOWEVER, NOTHING WRITTEN BY THE NY POST WRITER DEAN BALSAMI NOR BY ANY OF THE THINGS CONTAINED IN HIS ARTICLE INDICATED ANY DIRECT CONNECTION TO COUNCILMAN BRANNAN OR CRIME IN HIS 43RD COUNCIL DISTRICT

Carjackings are a very small and particular category of crimes in New York City. Amidst an overall drop in crime city-wide, there does appear to have been an uptick in carjackings city-wide. It should be noted that locally the drops in the theft of automobiles, and also a drop in the number of robberies would suggest that there should also be a drop in the number of carjackings locally.

However, that's not what "Anonymous said... at 10:06 AM" wants you know or think about.....

  20. RESPONSE: THE "FOX SUPPORTERS ARE ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS --- BUT NOT THEIR OWN FACTS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 4:12 PM"

JUST SAYING, "FAKE NEWS !!!" AIN'T ENOUGH FOR YOU --- NEITHER IS SAYING, "LIAR-LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE !!!" --- CALLING YOU "A NO GOOD PIECE OF SHIT - LYING SCUMBAG" IS GETTING SOMEWHAT WARMER.....

No doubt there are some Brian Fox supporters that have some kind of Justin Brannan derangement syndrome that is so severe that they reject any good news about crime stats based upon real fact-based data --- like the fact that murders are down city-wide, and almost everywhere across the City, North, East, South or West --- and that low murder rate is especially true in the heart of the Brannan City Council district, in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, where so far this year it has been >>> ZERO <<<

Obviously, Brian Fox's top advisor, Liam McCabe wants the crime news to be so bad that he has gotten some dim-wit to just lie about the stats coming from the NYPD. You see, consultant Liam McCabe knows that a series of mailers is in the works by Brannan's campaign that will take almost everything said by Fox and McCabe and rebut it completely and in great detail.

  22. 1145, this is a fake news story that is from an old Bob Capano pipedream. Like everything else in Capano's head, it makes more sense late at night having a "six" or "four tall ones" of Heineken on the "R" Train.

  28. RESPONSE; UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "FOX CAMPAIGN IS NOW VERY DESPARATE TO FIND BAD NEWS ABOUT CRIME --- NO MATTER WHERE IT IS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:02 AM"

YESTERDAY, THE FOX CAMPAIGN FACEBOOK CREW LINKED TO A BROOKLYN PAPER POLICE BLOTTER REPORT FOR SEVERAL PRECINCTS AROUND BROOKLYN TO FIND SOME STORIES ABOUT RECENT CRIMES >>> ANY STORIES <<< >>> ANYWHERE IN BROOKLYN <<< ONLY ONE OF THEM HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH SOMETHING IN THE 43RD COUNCIL DISTRICT --- AND THAT ONE INCIDENT WAS MISIDENTIFIED IN THE STOCK PHOTO THAT WAS SHOWN ON THE FOX CAMPAIGN FB PAGE

One of the 'headline" cases mentioned by the Brooklyn Paper was well outside the district where Fox is running, and the other headline case is not shown in the photo that accompanies the info posted on Fox's Facebook page. Meanwhile, several of Brian Fox's supporters posted "Likes" or positive imogis to the posting. It's like they were saying, "Hip-hip-hurray, for crime !!!" --- they are indeed a ghoulish bunch in the pro-Fox camp.

  29. Brian Fox is posting about registering to vote. He has me blocked - can someone ask him if he votes?

    ReplyDelete
  30. RESPONSE: THE " BRIAN FOX FOLLOWS A 'DO AS I SAY --- NOT AS I DO' APPROACH TO VOTING" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 4:50 PM"

I DON'T KNOW IF BRIAN FOX HAS >>> EVER <<< VOTED --- HOWEVER --- RECORDS INDICATE THAT BRIAN FOX HASN'T VOTED RECENTLY ANYWHERE IN BROOKLYN.....

So Fox's campaign's pitch to register and vote has a real reek of hypocrisy to it. Certainly, even somebody as dense as Fox and McCabe seem to be should be able to see that.
