Bob Capano exceeded the bounds of fair comment, opinion, or even spin --- on September 10th of this year, Capano knowingly lied about who Vito Bruno is, who and what Vito Bruno has been, and what Vito Bruno has done and said.....
Here's the most offensive and deceptive material from Bob Capano's September 10th column:
".... Probably
sensing his vulnerability on public safety, Gounardes just sent out an attack
mailer saying Bruno “welcomed drug dealers,” 'harbored violent criminals,' and 'celebrated corruption' because he ran nightclubs in the 1970s.... The
mailing shows newspaper clippings with these headlines and leads people to
believe Bruno ran the clubs where these alleged crimes occurred. The GOP
candidate, however, maintains he was long gone from any role with the
establishments cited when these violent crimes took place.... You
don’t need a PhD in political science to figure out that Gounardes is trying to
weaken Bruno’s law and order platform by focusing on alleged criminal
activities from 40 years ago, rather than the crime happening under our noses
today...." (See "OPINION: BROOKLYN STATE SENATE RACE A BELLWETHER FOR GOP RESURGENCE IN
ALBANY" by Bob Capano, 9/10/2020, The Brooklyn Paper/ Opinion [https://www.brooklynpaper.com/opinion-brooklyn-state-senate-race-a-bellwether-for-gop-resurgence-in-albany/]).
The fact is that what Vito Bruno did back in the "1970s" according to Bob Capano, actually took place in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s --- and if you look at everything that Vito Bruno has said since then about those days, it's fair to infer that the same kinds of crimes which were happening all around Vito's nose in those days are "crime(s) happening under [Vito's and] our noses today...."
Talk about ".... alleged
criminal activities from 40 years ago, rather than the crime happening under
our noses today...." Vito Bruno virtually admitted to all of his past misdeeds in a recent interview with the New York Daily News. So Bob Capano is being quite deceptive when he uses the word "alleged" while referring to Ratso Vito Bruno's misdeeds covering more than forty years --- the correct word is "admitted" not "alleged."
When he was confronted by a News' interviewer with charges that he hosted illegal “outlaw” parties that raged into the morning hours at a variety of sites across the city, hiring known gang members to work as security for those "outlaw" parties, giving large sums of cash to cops at Christmas to turn a blind eye to his activities, getting drugs for celebrities at his after hours club and generally being the kind of guy, who believes he is above the law and openly discusses how he’s broken it, this is how the Daily News reporter quoted Vito Bruno''s response --- “They’re going back 40 years to find stuff and you know what I think they’re wasting their money on that stuff because it’s all been published.... They keep going back to 40 years ago, I think none of us are the same as we were 40 years ago....” (See "Vito Bruno, music insider and former nightclub owner, claims he’ll bring ‘law and order’ to Brooklyn Senate race" by Denis Slattery, 9/27/2020, NY Daily News/ Politics/ News [https://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ny-vito-bruno-law-and-order-nightclub-owner-eighties-outlaw-20200727-czwnqknwbzdzbaoezihkfnjcoe-story.html]).
Any place that you might go from a courtroom, to the desk of a criminal investigator, to a stenographer taking down a statement as part of a deal or as testimony to be used in court, to a street corner, to any Bay Ridge bar like Skinflints, The Salty Dog, Pippins or the Bean Post or in a city wide or even a Brooklyn newspaper, that is called >>> AN ADMISSION..... AND THAT IS ONLY THE MOST RECENT SUCH ADMISSION BY VITO BRUNO OF HIS LONG HISTORY OF BAD DEEDS --- THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHERS.....
Bob Capano knows all of that, but he needed to cover it up to help Vito Bruno.....
SO BOB DID THE MOST DEADLY AND UNETHICAL THING FOR A JOURNALIST, EVEN A JOURNALIST WRITING AN OPINION COLUMN >>> USING HIS COLUMN AS A PLATFORM, BOB CAPANO LIED TO EVERYBODY ABOUT VITO BRUNO <<<
To make it even worse, I think that Bob Capano did it to advance his own selfish political plans involving 2021.....
Unsubstantiated allegations about drugs from the 1970's arent going to compare to the shootings and fires running through Bay ridge. Bullshit responses from poles about the wind isnt going to fly with people who really live here.
ReplyDeleteFatso Brannan is now an arson expert. Weather.com says no wind last night but Justin tells the post the wind burned down half of 74th street. I guess the wind did all those shootings.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE " 'DUMB AS DIRT' CROWD" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 2:37 PM"
TO BE CLEAR, YOU ARE DEFINITELY PART OF THE 'DUMB AS DIRT' CROWD --- IT'S NOT "UNSUBSTANTIATED ALLEGATIONS" AGAINST VITO BRUNO "ABOUT DRUGS FROM THE 1970S" --- WHEN IT'S ALL ADMITTED STUFF FROM THE 80S & 90S ABOUT DRUGS, VIOLENT THUGS AND LOTS OF OTHER STUFF
I think 2:37 point is voters will be swayed by recent events. Things that happened in this century.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing swaying is Vito Bruno's nose when he hears the bartender's got eightballs in the back room
ReplyDeleteAn unethical column. Not sure what that means. Bob is on board with Vito as are most.
ReplyDeleteDaily News reports Arfan Butt was man in BMW shot on 78th street. Arfan was a registered sex offender. EMS pulled him out of car and before he died he said he knew his killers. He said they were from New Jersey.
ReplyDeletejust saw a commercial for max nose. deblasio is the worst mayor says max. im sure that will help.
ReplyDeleteI dont recall Bob ever stating he wasnt supporting Vito.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "EVERYTHING THAT VITO BRUNO SAYS AND DOES" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 4:06 PM"
HEY !!! YOU'RE DUMB AS DIRT TOO.....
Maybe, you still believe the crap that Capano is peddling about Vito. In case you don't know it, businessman Ratso Vito Bruno is still doing business the way he always did. The tip off is that his business' name is the same as it was when he was a much younger law breaker.....
In case nobody has figured that this out yet --- there's a lot more on the record admissions by Vito --- why doesn't anybody ask Vito about that stuff.
But this is for sure, Vito Bruno NEVER laughingly mimicked John Belushi to himself of his iconic line >>> "No Coke, Pepsi !!!" Maybe if Vito did.....
Gale i'll put you down as undecided on Bruno.
ReplyDeleteThis looks bad for capano.
ReplyDeleteHey Moron McCall think it’s time you admit that you’re not running this blog anymore and that Councilman Fatass lets you post once in a whille. Vito didn’t run a club let alone own a club in any part of the 90’s and I looked up all the articles Andrew listed and none of them even mention Vito Bruno. Bob coulda been a lot tougher on Gounardes lies.
ReplyDeleteyour right Gale , I have not seen a hagiography like this since Chuck Otey wrote about Carl Scissora in the Home Reporter but right now John Q is looking up the definition of hagiography
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "VERY TANGLED WEB" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:00 AM"
YOU ARE GRASPING AT STRAWS --- WHAT ARTICLES LISTED BY ANDREW ???
I KNOW LOTS OF ARTICLES THAT DO CATALOG RATSO VITO BRUNO'S MISDEEDS AND BRAGGADOCIO ABOUT HIS MISDEEDS OVER THE LAST FORTY YEARS UNDER THE NAME AND STYLE "AM/PM"
As recently as 2017, we know that Vito did an interview with "Page Six"; and here's some of what it said: “.... The job [of Borough President] is basically a promoter for the borough of Brooklyn. It’s custom-made for someone like me,” said Bruno, who trained as an architect at Brooklyn Tech HS and Pratt Institute before running such nightclubs as the Roxy, Studio 54, Palladium and Tunnel...."
Now, let's go back to a 1991 WaPo article that said this: "... Vito Bruno, veteran impresario of night life, is opening a new club. The recession be damned. The Boring '90s be double-damned.... Bruno knew he was on to something when he sent out the invitations to the opening a couple of weeks ago. The A-List got a fuchsia foil shopping bag messengered to home or office. In the bag was a silver mannequin's hand draped in crystal beads, and in the hand was a powder puff, and on the puff, in pink, was the new club's name: Glamorama...." And, later in that same WaPo article was this: "[Vito Bruno] began as a bouncer and then manager at 2001 Odyssey, the club that inspired the magazine article that inspired the movie "Saturday Night Fever," shot on location. He and two partners then opened a downtown club called AM/PM, so trendy it didn't open till midnight or close till noon. As a promoter (a specialty to be explained) he helped turn the Roxy from a West Side roller disco to a vast hip-hop club, opened Pizza-a-Go-Go, worked the Tunnel and the Building...." The Tunnel --- boy, was that ever a bucket of blood.....
With the kinds of partners and business associates that Vito Bruno has had over the last forty years, niceties like "ownership," and who's "running" what are mere formalities. That's why we all need to see Vito's contemporary sworn statements about those establishments and the business arrangements that Vito was in at the time he was associated with them.
A drug dealer for 50 years whose never been arrested?
ReplyDeleteWhen i read about Vito and his pizza-ago-go and clubs that opened at midnight I'm impressed. I think Capano captured it. Then I read about Andy and I conclude the most creative thing he ever did was work for a BP. And that name "Andy" accompanied with that stupid grin.
ReplyDelete901, it's more like 45 years, and who knows who or when anybody gets 'arrested' if there is no prosecution, and there were lots of reasons for 'no prosecution' in the club world, just look at the movie "The Last Days of Disco."
ReplyDeleteSince somebody mentioned Vito Bruno and Studio 54, did you see the NY Post write up about the infamous club and the exhibit of over 40 year old memorabilia at the Brooklyn Museum. I'll bet that gave Ratso just a little tingle of nostalgia for the good old days when he was learning the velvet ropes.
10:04 thinks vito was arrested and andy cant find out about it. seems like we read about all the arrests of the shooters in bay ridge. And the fattest councilman in nyc history explains the fires and shootings are about the wind.
ReplyDelete9:01 AM - He wasn't arrested because he paid off the cops duh
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "KEEP YOUR EYE ON HIS BALLS" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO MANY OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE
WHEN IT COMES TO RATSO VITO BRUNO, DON'T JUST LOOK AT A LITTLE OF THIS AND THAT --- LOOK AT HIS WHOLE BODY OF WORK --- ESPECIALLY, KEEP LOOKING AT THE BALLS OF THIS GUY AS HE PLAYS HIS FAVORITE TUNE ON THE HIT PARADE "VITO BRUNO SINGING ABOUT VITO BRUNO" --- AND BOY, DID THIS GUY EVER HAVE PRACTICE SINGING ABOUT THIS AND THAT
In May of 2013, more or less around the time that Vito Bruno started to move into local politics with Clorinda and Eaton and Bob Capano, he did an interview for a puff piece in something called "Bar & Restaurant" --- that is a very revealing piece of work by Ratso and a reporter named Steve Lewis, who did an extensive Q&A with Vito Bruno.
Here's what they had to say: "Vito Bruno is the CEO and founder of AMPM Entertainment and hosts a laundry list of impressive feats within the nightlife industry. He started his career at 2001 Odyssey the Brooklyn club made famous in Saturday Night Fever during the Disco era.... Soon after he moved his game to Manhattan and ran the celebrity infused after hours club AMPM. He became the promoter at the Roxy.... He has operated Studio 54, 1018, Palladium, Tunnel, Homebase and the Building at various times in their history...."
You see, Ratso Vito Bruno was still bragging about all of that stuff to industry reporters, while beginning to remake and re-brand himself as a "Law and Order" social conservative in and around Republican circles in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst.
NOW, THAT DOES TAKE BALLS !!!
1037, paying off the cops isn't why Vito was "never arrested".....
ReplyDeleteThe FEDS got into the whole paying-off cops thing, big time --- The FEDS got into the whole drugs and taxes thing in the clubs, big time, at Studio 54 and other places where Vito worked --- Vito talked about all of it in the papers and/or in books at one time or another --- Vito "never got arrested" for anything --- So, YOU connect the dots.....
Vito spent the past 4 decades acting like an extra in Carlito's Way
ReplyDeleteNow he expects us to believe he's Jerry Orbach ?
Maybe, the Jerry Orbach in "Prince of the City"
ReplyDeleteI would just like to take a short moment to remind your readers that Bob Capano has worked for Brooklyn Republican and Democrat elected officials and has been an adjunct political science professor for over 15 years.
ReplyDeleteCapano will be the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Party nominee for District 43 representative on the New York City Council in New York. He will not be defeated in the general election like John Quaglione was twice.
I'll bet andys never been arrested. I'll bet andys never done anything. Now thats leadership.
ReplyDeleteThe Senate race is no different than any other. Its a referendum on the incumbent. So let me ask all you people one thing. Is Bay Ridge better off now than it was 2 years ago?
ReplyDeletewriting an unethical column can be explained in the context of a brooklyn & staten island blog run by someone who lives in florida
ReplyDeleteIve noticed all the chatter boxes who dont seem to be bothered by the shootings in brooklyn dont live anywhere near brooklyn. Except for fatso justin who thinks its the wind.
ReplyDeletehey 1:05 im much better of than i was 2 years ago because i sold my shitty house on 72 street for 2 million dollars and got the fuck out of brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteAfter I read Capanos column I always feel better,
ReplyDeleteIf Dyker has got so bad why can't I afford a new house on this DeSales paycheck?
ReplyDeleteWhere is andy? Complain about Vito but hes out there.
ReplyDeleteBut why would any real conservative Republican want anybody like Vito Bruno 'out there' representing the GOP given his lack of character, spivvy carriage and personality, terrible personal history and horrible reputation.
ReplyDeleteTrump reminds me of Bob. No matter how much they accomplish the envy and non stop personal attacks never end.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE " 'ENVY AND PERSONAL ATTACKS' " EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:53 AM"
NO MATTER WHOEVER YOU MIGHT BE --- WHETHER VERY CLOSE TO BOB CAPANO OR NOT --- YOU SHOULD SEE CLEARLY THAT MY PRESENT CRITICISM ABOUT BOB IS AIMED ONLY AT HIS SUPPORT AND UNETHICAL BOOSTING OF RATSO VITO BRUNO.....
TO BE CLEAR --- THE "UNETHICAL" PART OF BOB'S USE OF HIS PLATFORM AS AN OPINION COLUMN JOURNALIST CONSISTS IN HIS PROFOUND LYING TO HIS READERS ABOUT WHO RATSO VITO BRUNO HAS BEEN AND WHAT RATSO REALLY HAS DONE WITH HIS LIFE
Bob Capano knows or should know that Vito Bruno is a world class scumbag, who is unfit to serve Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and the neighborhoods surrounding Marine Park in any capacity. Much of what Vito Bruno really is and what he has done is widely known and clearly written in the public record for the last forty-plus years.
Right now, I could care less about anything that Bob Capano might have "accomplished" --- as far as I'm concerned, Bob's unethical lying support of Vito Bruno puts everything else about Bob into the shit-can.
To put a finer point on it, Bob Capano, John Quaglione and Liam McCabe are all anathema to me because of their support of Vito Bruno.
Liam is ready for indoor day drinks to begin on October second
ReplyDelete2017 was the year three candidates came forward as the new leaders of the GOP. Only one is still standing. Columnist Bob Capano. Bob can take the attacks from the disaffected GOP. But we need leadership and Bob has picked up the pieces and mended the fences.
ReplyDeleteLet us remember not only has Bob "Woodward" Capano worked for both Republican and Democrat elected officials in Brooklyn but he is a job creator and has been an adjunct political science professor for over 35 years. He is the leader we need for 2021 and Beyond.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "BOB HASN'T MENDED ANY FENCES --- AND HE SURE AIN'T NO LEADER" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 2:43 PM"
BOB CAPANO HAS MANAGED THE GYMNASTICLY DIFFICULT FEAT OF KICKING HIMSELF IN THE BALLS USING BOTH FEET
BUT HE HAS HAD A HISTORY OF DOING THIS KIND OF STUFF BEFORE
Bobby C. was with the pro-Vito Bruno crowd way back when Bruno was advanced by Craig Eaton as a worthwhile possible candidate for something or anything many years ago.
This was all very similar to the fiasco many years ago when the Brooklyn Republicans and Conservatives backed a fellow named George Smith to be their candidate for the City Council. At least back then Conservative Chairman Kassar had a little bit of integrity and said, "We have made it clear to him that we want him to come off the line.... We want him to petition the court to come off the ballot.”
At the time, Kassar said that neither he nor his fellow Republican members knew about Smith’s sordid past. Smith, he said, was recommended to them by the Republicans who had already accepted him on their ballot for the 39th District (at that time, that meant GOP Chairman Craig Eaton). This is also what Kassar said at the time, “We sat down and talked to George Smith and he was fine on the issues about taxes, capital punishment and congestion pricing.... This other stuff never came out. Maybe that’s the mistake. We normally don’t have to ask the candidates if they’ve been charged with a crime.... Maybe asking about one’s criminal history should be a new spoke in the wheel....”
Through all of that, both Eaton and his protege Capano were silent about George Smith; and they were simultaneously backing Smith, while behind the scenes encouraging another candidate named Nardiello.
They say that history repeats --- but the second time it's farce. When it comes to Vito Bruno and his very obvious, but un-prosecuted, life of crime and debauched activities, folks like Eaton, Capano and Kassar have shown their own perfidy and corruption by doubling down on their endorsements for Ratso Vito Bruno in the face of the well-documented and admitted charges against the long-time "promoter" of illicit sex drugs & rock'n'roll.
