Joe Ferris, long-time Democrat activist, once from Park Slope and Windsor Terrace, dies of COVID-19
Joseph Ferris, who served in the New York State Assembly from 1975 to 1984, died June 20th from COVID-19, according to his son Joseph Ferris Jr. --- Joe was 85 years of age when he passed.
Assemblyman Ferris was a Reform Democrat, who represented a district, then called the 51st A.D. in Brooklyn, that spanned Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Sunset Park, and Borough Park, where he garnered a reputation as a fierce advocate against policies like "redlining" by banks and insurers — where certain Brooklyn communities were systematically denied equal treatment from some governmental and most private sector financial and insurance sources.
Joe Ferris got his beginnings in political activism during his days in Dorothy Day's Catholic Worker movement.....
After a protracted battle with the Regular Democratic Party machine in Park Slope, Joe took on the popular, populist Republican incumbent Vin Riccio, whom he finally defeated in the post-Watergate election of 1974.
Some, including many Republicans, say that Joe was essentially decent and honest. Others focus on the fact that he was open in his fight for racial justice, especially within his own district. However, still others, including a few fellow Democrat reformers and his most conservative opponents, pointed out that the principal beneficiaries of most of Joe Ferris' efforts were newcomer white liberal Park Slope gentrifiers, who were very like Joe Ferris himself.
Not known by many of his political supporters, Joe owned multiple properties whose values went through the roof while their "friend," Mr. Ferris, was in the assembly pushing most of the white liberal agenda in Albany, while pushing the likes of Citibank and Brooklyn Union Gas to directly "invest" in the "revival" of Park Slope back home.
HE CAN'T BE DEAD FROM COVID-19. IT'S A HOAX!
ReplyDeleteSaying that "... COVID-19. IT'S A HOAX!" well that's the real hoax --- is there anybody who actually said that?
ReplyDeleteIf not, then why spread that, it's very cruel to the Ferris family
And cruel to the 125,000 Americans that died from Covid-19 because we have a deranged narcissist in the Oval Office.
ReplyDeleteFerris battled the banks until the banks gave him mortgages to build himself a multi million dollar real estate empire. Not often a battle ends with both sides winning.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "MORE FAKE NEWS AND NAME CALLING FROM THE SAME MENTALLY STUNTED NARCISSIST" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 5:27 PM"
NO, YOU ARE THE ONE BEING CRUEL TO THE FAMILIES OF 125,000 AMERICANS BY POLITICIZING THEIR LOSS WITH FALSE NARRATIVES AS TO THE CAUSE OF THEIR DEATHS
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO METRIC INDICATING THAT 125,000 AMERICANS DIED FROM COVID-19, OR ANY ONE OF THEM, AS A RESULT FROM ANYTHING OR ANYBODY IN THE WHITE HOUSE..... SO, STOP WITH YOUR UNINFORMED AND IMMATURE JIBES
You keep making the same arguments over and over again, yet you remain quite factually challenged.
UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO STOP DEALING WITH VICTIMS OF DEEP NEUROSES" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTHERE ARE PEOPLE THAT SOMETIMES CAN'T HANDLE REJECTION FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS --- THEY JUST NEED TO BE CUT OFF QUICKLY
I JUST DID SO TO A PATHOLOGICAL "NEVER TRUMPER" WHOSE RECENT CONVERSATION AND COMMENTARY HAD TURNED ROUTINELY --- "PERSONALLY ABUSIVE, OVERWROUGHT, POINTLESSLY SALACIOUS, AND TRIP-WIRED WITH NON [SEQUITURS]" --- JUST LIKE THE SO-CALLED "LINCOLN PROJECT" MATERIAL THAT HE QUOTED ON FACEBOOK
Gale, maybe you're just too sensitive after calling for American citizens to be napalmed for exercising their constitutional rights to demonstrate the other day.
ReplyDeleteSaying things like that are generally an indication that you've gone over the edge. When Trump is trounced in November, perhaps you'll be invited back into polite society.
Ferris did well for Ferris.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, what news sources does this website recognize?
ReplyDeleteBesides Fox, OANN, Pravda, Tass, and that guy by Grand Central who talks to the empty shoebox he carries around? (don't mess with the shoebox)
RESPONSE: THE "OBVIOUSLY YOU THINK THAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS WHAT CNN AND MSNBC SAYS IT IS" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 1:56 AM" & "... AT 8:57 AM"
YOU HAVE COMPLETELY DRANK THE COOL-AID OF THE LEFT --- THERE ARE NO "CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS" OF THE SORT YOU SEEM TO WANT TO PROTECT --- SECESSION, SEDITION, INSURRECTION, ARMED REBELLION, ARSON, RIOT, LOOTING, MURDER, MAYHEM, AND MOB-ENFORCED ANARCHY
N.B. >>> IF YOU WANT TO QUOTE ME TO MYSELF, THEN USE MY WORDS NOT YOURS --- OTHERWISE IT'S JUST ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR PHONY STRAW MAN ARGUMENTS
AS FOR NEWS SOURCES, I'M CERTAIN OUR NEWS SOURCES ON THIS SITE ARE FAR MORE DIVERSE AND RELIABLE THAN YOURS --- I SEE THAT YOU DON'T THINK THAT "THE ATLANTIC" IS VERY AUTHORITATIVE ABOUT YOUR ANTI-TRUMP FRIENDS AT "THE LINCOLN PROJECT" --- THAT'S WHY I CUT YOU OFF, YOUR BUTTONED DOWN MIND AND STUNTED OUTLOOK
However, thank you for your mention of that very effective chemical agent "NAPALM" --- when used against seditious armed rebels, and unhinged and murderous insurrectionists I'm sure the judicious use of that particular chemical agent would ultimately save many American lives. If that was mentioned by me before, maybe you could tell me where or when.....
If the election does not go to Trump in November, I will have no interest in being in any "polite society" that includes you or your ilk of weak-spined and uninformed pursuers of convenience and expediency --- you know, typical turncoats.
Why did Justin vote to defund the police?
ReplyDeleteRumors about the doughnut shortage were a factor.
Due diligence would not kill you. The easy path is to copy what others have already printed but I'll save you the work
ReplyDelete1- Dorothy Day was not born a catholic and had no affiliation with the catholic church. It was the early days of socialism for the pious democrats like Mr Farouk.
2- You describe a "protracted battle" with the regular party democrats that led to the decedents victory. The fact is in 1974 a deal was made that resulted in no primary. I guess the backroom deal is where that "protracted battle" took place.
There was a deal in 1974; but based on trends in the 51st and other Brooklyn Democratic primaries from 1970 on, the Regulars would have been destroyed by the Ferris slate. The antiwar movement swept reformers into Primary victories for party and public offices. Holtzman, Pesce, Bellamy, to name a few.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION --- NOT !!!" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:17 PM"
IT TAKES MORE THAT WATCHING A FEW SEASONS OF "TURN..." TO KNOW WHAT ANYBODY MIGHT HAVE SOUNDED LIKE IN 1776 --- BUT SINCE THAT'S PROBABLY THE LIMIT TO YOUR RESEARCH SKILLS, LOOK CLOSELY AT THE PORTRAYAL OF >>> BENEDICT ARNOLD <<< AND TELL US ALL LATER ON HOW HE WAS JUSTIFIED BECAUSE OF THE WAY WASHINGTON AND THE SECOND CON-CON JUST WOULDN'T LISTEN, FIRST TO HIS ONLY OCCASIONALLY SOUND ADVICE AND THEN LATER TO HIS CONSTANT WHINING
If you see what I just did there, then you've gotten an insight into why you've been cut off --- YOU HAVE JUST BECOME INSUFFERABLE AND WE'RE DONE.....
Gale, we're done when Ted Ghorra says we're done. Didn't you get the memo?
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "WHO CARES ABOUT TED GHORRA" EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 3:32 PM"
NO MEMO ! --- WOULDN'T CARE IF THERE WERE SUCH A MEMO !!! --- TED GHORRA IS A REPUBLICAN IN BROOKLYN, BUT WE WERE DONE BEFORE ANYBODY EVER HEARD OF HIM (LET'S PRETEND SOMEBODY HAS HEARD OF HIM)
I'D NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE MARTY MADE HIM GOP COUNTY CHAIRMAN --- AND HE NEVER HEARD OF ME --- THE DIFFERENCE IS >>> NOW HE KNOWS --- AND I STILL DON'T CARE TO KNOW <<<
Now, the guy that I am done with used to be a Republican, and now I don't even know if he's an American.
2:59 has great excuses for a backroom deal which is where this battle for reform happened. A deals a deal and Ferris got himself a good deal.
ReplyDeleteSo besides this guy Ferris calling himself a reformer is there any reform he actually accomplished? Becoming a rich landlord is the most I've heard about.
was ferris a trump supporter
ReplyDeleteNo, but he was one of the only prominent Democrats to endorse Rudy for Mayor in 1989.
ReplyDeleteJoe Ferris was not a prominent Democrat in 1989, so did anybody notice?
