But there is a rub, and here it is --- there are two other mugs in the frame; one looks
like a potato salad kind of guy and the other is the ubiquitous New York State Senator Marty Golden,
Quaglione’s boss for the whole of JQ’s adult life.
There are so many
instances lately where Marty has appeared with his down the totem pole staffer
John Quaglione; and that has to mean
something….. My guess and it’s
shared by a couple of long time Brooklyn GOP activist-consultant types is that
Marty’s boy John Q. is in trouble, and that Golden and the Golden team pros
know it.
MARTY TO THE RESCUE --- BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO MARTY IF QUAGS LOSES --- OR EVEN WORSE WHAT IF JQ COMES IN THIRD
Marty G. seems to be
banking on his belief that he is “popular” inside the Brooklyn GOP; and that his political popularity is
transferrable to his boy Quagsy. So he
is hoping to cast a giant shadow that will cover up all of the manifest
shortcomings of the John Quaglione campaign.
I think that State Senator Golden
has made a very bad bet by going “all-in” on John Quaglione. Even if JQ were to squeak out a win in the 2017 GOP
primary, how does that help Marty going
forward ???
Even if John Quaglione were to become the GOP
nominee for City Council from the 43rd District, he most likely would lose in November by an
even wider margin than he did in 2013, even with the seat being “open” without
an incumbent running. However, the way
things look now, even with Marty always at his elbow, John Quaglione is likely to lose in the
September 2017 primary. There is even a
chance that JQ comes in third in the three-way race with Bob Capano and Liam
McCabe.
Anything less than an outright primary win by John Q. Republican will show just
how weak his boss SSMG’s hold is on the Brooklyn GOP and its prime voters.
Primaries are like viruses. They spread.

ReplyDeleteMcCabe already made it clear he is not afraid to take on Marty when he condemned him for his "fat boy" remark of Brannan.
Mccabe has already let it be known if he loses this council primary he will look at taking on Marty next year. A strong Irish Republican like McCabe could make things interesting against Marty and all those in the know, know that the only thing Obrien would enjoy more than taking down Martys boy Quaglione this year, is taking out Marty himself next year
McCabe has said nothing to anyone about taking on Marty, and the same trolls who try to stir things up are likely behind the 12:20 PM post above.

This is a real issue, McCabe has shown he is man enough and strong enough to stand up to Marty Golden and Obrien keeps trying to roll it back and play nice...is this good cop, bad cop, or a real division in campaign strategy. .cant have it both ways!!

That is more than nice; and it covers so many bases..... He implies that he is relaxing, but ready to kick his campaign into a new gear after a pretty good showing in his team's handling of that necessary campaign hurdle --- PETITIONING.....
There are certainly many traps and pitfalls awaiting the unsuspecting in the BOE-Supreme Court challenges process, but if Bobby C. actually files three times the required GOP signatures with the Board of Elections, he will be one tough cookie to keep off the GOP Primary ballot. And, as they used to say about the NYS Lottery, “You’ve got to be in it to win it….”
BTW, I've checked pretty far back, and there are no Marty Golden mugshots among Bob Capano's photo array of his usual suspects during this 2017 campaign.....
"Capano is still quite viable" does not sound like he comes in first on September 12th. It sounds like a respectable third place.

First, Bob Capano is more likely to pull from John Quaglione's base than from Liam McCabe's..... So, if Bobby C. looks like he's doing well, JQ's high end support (Golden and his folks) will quickly swing from the record-breaking loser and lackluster campaigner, John Quaglione, to Liam McCabe, the dynamic new guy on the block.
Marty is always in photos with Q. How else would Q being able to stand up?
ReplyDeleteWhat actually might end up happening is that this becomes a two person race between Bob Capano and John Q because apparently Liam McCabe's Manhattan based petitioning operation has been cutting corners and getting signatures that wouldn't stand if challenged. Standing outside of Supermarkets might work for Democrats but it is a huge problem when trying to collect Republican signatures. Bob or John or both may have already decided to spend money challenging his signatures.

Nobody runs against senator golden because he is unbeatable. You people act as though you need permission to run for office. Marty "Senator for Life" Golden has defeated incumbents and anyone else who stands in his way.
