The Reverend Khader El-Yateem is a candidate like we have never seen before

Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach need to wake up and smell the coffee  ---  a new majority governing coalition is FORMING  ---  it just might win in 2017

Not only do the latest tea leaves, polling trends, and animal entrails show that it’s  “LAST HURRAH”  time for the GOP and Conservative Party in Brooklyn  ---  traditional local Democrats like Abbate,  Brannan  and Carroll might also be headed to an  “ELEPHANTS GRAVEYARD” of their very own

According to a report that recently appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle  ---  The Reverend Yhader El Yateem is clearly looking past the upcoming Democrat Primary  ---  AND  ---  He has a plan to win, or at least contend for, Republican-leaning voters in November

A few days ago,  Paula Katinas,  writing for the Brooklyn Eagle,  said that:   “Rev. Khader El-Yateem, the first Palestinian-American to run for the City Council seat representing Bay Ridge, appears to be shaking up the race for more reasons than just the historic nature of his candidacy, according to political observers, who said he is making notable efforts to differentiate himself from the rest of the Democratic field….   El-Yateem told members of the South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance at a forum the group held on April 18 that he was confident he could get Republicans to cross over and vote for him in the general election in November….”  (See  “El-Yateem boasts of ability to attract GOP voters”  by Paula Katinas,  4/20/17,  Brooklyn Daily Eagle  [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/2017/4/20/el-yateem-boasts-ability-attract-gop-voters]).

DEMOCRATS MIGHT BE MORE UPSET AND/OR IMPRESSED THAN REPUBLICANS

This article prompted several of my regular team of Baker Street Irregulars to zip off E-mails with links to the Brooklyn Eagle-Khader article.   Two of those “heads-up” deals were from a pair of Democrat wags,  one is still quite active;  the other is an old war horse,  who has been very non-aligned lately.

The initial E-mail that came to me was from a well-known Democrat Party activist,  and it contained this very interesting comment in the subject heading:   “This guy is insane….  [clearly referring to candidate El-Yateem].   I can’t go into any more of what this operative’s insightful and inciting observations about the reverend-candidate are at the present time,  because this faithful servant doesn’t want his identity or his current pre-primary activities and alliances to be revealed.

Another long-time Democrat who earlier had sent me the Khader-Brooklyn Eagle link, later on followed-up with an observation that was quite surprising. It was accompanied by this subject line:  “Eagle:  El-Yateem says he can get GOP votes…”.   Furthermore, according to this often-quoted Democrat-leaning wag,   "El-Yateem has nailed down the progressive Bernie Sanders vote which is all that counts in a democratic primary. Now El-Yateem is explaining how he can win the November election. Abbate, Justin and the others will never realize this till 10 pm on primary night.…  In a primary whenever its one progressive against three political hacks the progressive wins….!!"

THE VENUE OF REV. KHADER EL-YATEEM'S REMARKS ABOUT GOP VOTERS DOES SEEM UNUSUAL  ---   BASED ON >>> WHERE AND TO WHOM <<< IT WAS SAID

That a given candidate might claim a special ability to obtain a significant number of cross-over votes is not unusual; in fact, it is almost pedestrian.  However, in this instance, what makes this claim by the Reverend El-Yateem stand out is that it was made at a forum conducted by the >>>South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance <<<.....

It just isn't part of the normal political idiom to brag about the ability to attract conservative voters at a progressive event....

But that's part of what makes the Reverend-candidate El-Yateem  >>>  a candidate like we have never seen before.....

  1. The reason why Yateem will win the democratic primary is his opponents who are all in it for the buck. Abbates platform is increase my pension. Brannen going back on Gentiles payroll ended it for him. Carroll is the ultimate phony whose credential is hes a scheduler for a hack Vito Lopez councilman. Scheduler. The city council meets two days a month.

    Tweedle dee v Tweedle dumber

El-Yateem has more money and supporters and a message

  2. Bernie won Bay Ridge big. Hillary lost it. You are right Gale. Nobody has seen this before in Bay Ridge politics.

But you never know. Arthur Aidala might enter the race. Aidala has stated to the press many times that he was "inspired by Trump". That's all it takes in a democratic primary.

  4. John Quaglione, Bob Capano and Liam McCabe all have more or less said, "2017 is a Republican's last chance to win the City Council seat in Bay Ridge and some other nearby neighborhoods."

One of my skiing friends always says, that you're making a mistake saying the next run is the last run of the day. Once you think about the last run of the day, that is the last run of the day.

The same is true about elections in changing areas.

  5. Three clowns in search of a useless nomination.

  6. Pat Russo was a better candidate and campaigner than any of these guys; his numbers were better than either Capano's or Quaglione's; and Russo still lost by a lot.

  7. Gale I sure hope you are being facetious. Kosher pigs will fly before Elyateem gets elected. My money is on Quaglione for the GOP. Liam has crash and burn written all over him.

  8. Gale never said El-yateem will get elected. Gale said El-Yateem will win the democratic primary. As for Quaglione he'll just blend in with the other hacks like Brannen who will both be fighting for third place.

  9. RESPONSE: THE "... 'SEND IN THE CLOWNS'..." EDITION

TO: MANY OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE

WON'T THE NEXT COUNCILPERSON FROM THE 43RD DISTRICT BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WITH OVER-SIZED SHOES AND A BIG RED NOSE SQUEEZED INTO A TEENSY WHEENSY CAR

Several commenters on this thread used the term "clown" or "clowns" to describe one, some or all candidate(s) now running to be their party's nominee to be the New York City Council Member from the 43rd District in Brooklyn.

The fact is that only one person gets to become a Council Member; and that person might be one of the clowns, maybe even the biggest clown in the bunch.....

Let's go at this ass-backwards --- Is there anybody out there that can say definitively that there is any person among the current crop of GOP and Dem candidates declared to run in the 43rd Counc. Dist. that is NOT, demonstrably , obviously and categorically, A CLOWN ???

  10. The Council race will be interesting. Ghomora hasnt been told yet who to support by Golden and Kassar so he sits on the sidelines as usual. Hey they didnt even tell him they were putting Rily into the BOE spot, although rumor has it, he is telling people he was "consuilted" - that is funnnnnny

  11. UPDATE FROM LEFT FIELD: THE "HORATIO AT THE BRIDGE" EDITION

LIAM MC CABE STEPPED UP IN THE LION'S DEN --- TRIED TO SOOTHE THE SAVAGE BEAST --- THEN HE CALLED THEM OUT

A Republican candidate for City Council decided it was time to go to the head of the class and tell everybody there what scumbags they really are.....

According to the Brooklyn Paper, there was a "huge" crowd gathered at Marty Golden's Bay Ridge Manor to hold a rump "Town Hall" to disparage Congressman Donovan; and the only recognizable >>> Republican <<< in sight to present a defense was Liam McCabe ( See "Bay Ridgites host town hall for Donovan — who didn’t show" by Caroline Spivak, 4/24/17, The Brooklyn Paper [http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/40/17/br-donovan-fake-town-hall-2017-04-28-bk.html]).

Not only was the crowd "huge" --- Liam McCabe's contra-post part in the event was H-U-U-U-G-E [pronounced "YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJJJ] ! ! !

Don't just take it from me, "Mitch from Bay Ridge," one of the commenters following the Brooklyn Paper article had this to say: ".... Finally, take the McCabe thing for what it was - a media stunt. He's been mentioned in every article that's come out about the town hall. And I'm sure a lot of Republicans are giving him a big pat on the back. Next time, they should not allow ANY elected official or anyone running for office from speaking at all. (unless it's Dan Donovan)."

  12. Sounds like Mccabe is the only republican with balls. That includes dandy dan

  13. Gail, don't do the Democrats' job for them.
This wasn't a 'TOWN HALL' by anybody's real definition of the term.
What it was, was part of the Obama-Clinton government in exile 'resistance' movement.

  14. I disagree with Donovans no shows in brooklyn because its a pattern.
No show for debates, no show for town halls.
    Is he in the closet?
