How many of my Democratic Party friends are going to be running at the same time ? --- Now, it looks like Kevin Peter Carroll >>> IS <<< running for the City Council

The newest news about KPC is in the KCP  ---  and be sure that you don’t miss the COMMENTS following the 2/7/17 article in the Kings County Politics blog

Mentioned as a likely candidate in the early chatter,  Kevin Peter Carroll sort of slipped off the radar for a few months  ---  Well, HE-E-E’S  BA-A-A-ACK  ---  and looks like it’s going to be in a big way

According to Steve Witt’s Kings County Politics blog,  “In a move not unexpected, Kevin Peter Carroll, the Democratic District leader of the 64th Assembly District [ which includes a piece of Bay Ridge] will announce  [ ] he is running for the open 43rd District City Council Seat [sic] this year….   Carroll grew up in the district and is a graduate of the New York City public school system having attended McKinley Junior High and Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge. He then continued his academic career in the City University system (CUNY), graduating from the College of Staten Island with a BA in political science and a minor in history….”   (See  “Carroll Jumps Into The Bay Ridge City Council Fray” by Stephen Witt, 2/7/17,  Kings County Politics/ Elections   [http://www.kingscountypolitics.com/carroll-jumps-bay-ridge-city-council-fray/]).

Mr. Witt’s piece also noted that there are similarities between Mr. Carroll and both Justin Brannan and Nancy Tong.  Like them, Kevin Carroll is well connected politically. He is part of a Carroll family that has long been politically active in Brooklyn.   That clan includes his cousin, Assembly member Robert Carroll  (D-Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Kensington).  In addition, he currently works for Stephen Levina Democrat Councilman from Downtown and Northern Brooklyn.  And, KPC is also a founding member of the political club, Brooklyn Democrats for Change (BDFC).

The coverage by the Kings County Politics blog was sort of thin and incomplete.   However, that was somewhat  made up for by the COMMENTS following the article.   Among the noteworthy info concerning KPC appears o be a lingering animus by many Democrats concerning Kevin Peter Carroll’s first leadership race in the 64th AD  ---  that race involved some strange goings-on vis a vis the former leader in that  AD,  Ralph Perfetto.

  1. Didn't Kevin run against an oldtime party leader who showed up in court to represent clients, even though he was never a lawyer?

I heard some pols were pissed at Kevin for taking out a well-liked pol, but the guy was impersonating a lawyer!

If they really want to dislike Kevin, it should be for running as the reform candidate in that race, supported by reform factions in the Democratic Party, preaching reform policies ... and only waiting three days after winning to cut a deal to support Seddio (and almost instantly being hired for a local legislator's staff).

  2. Nothing like you said ever happened. There was a whole bunch of stuff made up by DA Hynes, probably with outside political input. All offers to drop the case against Perfetto, who you described as a well-liked pol, included Perfetto having to step down as leader in the 64th AD.

  3. In the article it is revealed that Kevin Peter Carroll works as a "Scheduler" for Levin. That's the problem we have in poltkcs, this kid has never ever held a real job but he wants to represent over a hundred thousans constituents.

  4. Now Justin has a problem.

  5. This is good news for the GOP. Carroll has the WFP which means if Justin wins the primary the Republican walks in

  6. Brooklyn Paper, 5/27/11:

"A jury convicted former Bay Ridge District Leader Ralph Perfetto of pretending to be a lawyer on Thursday — and now the 75-year-old neighborhood public servant is facing a year in the slammer ... Perfetto, a boxer turned private investigator, was arrested for signing a court document indicating that he was his cousin’s lawyer during a misdemeanor arraignment proceeding on Aug. 21, 2008. During his brief time in front of Judge Evelyn LaPorte, he waived the reading of the charges against his kin, submitted testimony from two witnesses and agreed on the next court date, according to court transcripts of the proceedings."

  7. Daily News, 5/26/11:

"A former Brooklyn Democratic district leader was banished Thursday for being a bogus barrister ... Ralph Perfetto, 77, a longtime Bay Ridge power broker, was convicted of practicing law without a license for standing with his cousin's son in court in August 2008 - and even addressing the judge."

  8. Those are "fake news" Daily News accounts that came out of the Carroll-Hynes fake news bureau and were printed almost unchanged by a very gullible press that worked the Brooklyn Criminal Courts.

Before any of this happened, DA Hynes' office slow-walked the investigation that was started by his own office until the eve of the primary that elected Carroll and then recused himself, giving it to the very corrupt SI DA Dan Donovan. The only document signed by Perfetto indicated that he was a "private investigator."

    ReplyDelete
  9. The fake news above posted by Kevin neglected to mention how many of his relatives were also put on Hynes payroll. Are those relatives still on the DA's payroll? Time to start checking.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hynes took down Perfetto a week before petitions were circulated for district leader. That deal got Kevin elected but Hynes lost the DA race.

Calling DA Eric Gonzalez. Watch out for Kevin looking for another favor and consider purging the Carroll family from the DA payroll. It didnt help Joe.

  11. Looks like justin will have to start looking for a real job

  12. Fake Daily News accounts? Corrupt DA Dan Donovan? Dan may not be the sharpest pencil in the pack, but he stood his ground against knuckle-dragging Boro President/Conservative Party boss Jim "Bwowo Pwethident" Molinaro, and sent the case against Molinaro's thug grandson to a special prosecutor, who rightly put the kid (already on probation) in jail for a few years.

Does Perfetto owe you money? You seem unable to accept his criminality.

  13. The Carroll family is doing very well these days. Kevins brother got a 25% raise from the new DA Gonzalez. Looks like Justin will

  14. Carrolls job is "scheduling" for a City Councilman. They work 2 days a month.

  16. Is this Perfetto running for City Council? If he's not why is anybody talking about him?

    ReplyDelete
  17. The reason why people are talking about Perfetto is because Kevin Carroll defeated Perfetto after then Dem boss Vito Lopez made a deal with Carroll that if Hynes indicted Perfetto then Carroll would support Vito for county boss. That's how we wound up with Carroll. And Carroll did vote for boss Vito. Then Vito got Kevin Carroll on Levins payroll and Carrolls cousin on Hynes payroll. a family of hacks.

  18. Kevin seems to be quiet after the above comment

  19. Ask Kevin what his family means when they talk about 'street justice'?
Rumor has it that there is a big time law suit coming the Carrols way because of one of former DA Hynes' malicious political prosecutions --- this all about a real bad blood 'pound of flesh' deal.

  20. UPDATE: THE “NOW THIS MIGHT BE A BIG DEAL” EDITION

CAN DEMOCRAT KEVIN PETER CARROLL’S CAMPAIGN TO BE A DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINEE IN 2017 SURVIVE ARTICLES LIKE JULIANNE CUBA’S SPOTLIGHT ON HIS CLUB'S PRESIDENT KATHY KHATARI ? ? ?

Cuba’s article in Courier Life’s Brooklyn Daily starts out like this: “Welcome to Trump’s America!... A high-ranking Muslim officer in political club Brooklyn Democrats for Change is a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump and his controversial immigration ban…. Kathy Khatari, the club’s vice president an Irish-Catholic Bay Ridgite who converted to Islam after marrying a Yemeni-American, defended The Donald’s order barring entry to the U.S. from citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries to the New York Times on Jan. 29, saying that she’d ‘take inconvenience for safety.’…” (See “Muslim Democratic club leader is a vocal Trump supporter” by Julianne Cuba, 2/9/17, Courier Life/ Brooklyn Daily [http://www.brooklyndaily.com/stories/2017/6/pl-party-line-kathy-khatari-supports-trump-2017-02-10-bk.html]).

Cuba herself directly addressed the issue of Khatari’s Trump support being a problem for Carroll, thus: “The move could pose a problem for club founder and Democratic district leader Kevin Peter Carroll, who has just announced a run for term-limited Councilman Vincent Gentile’s Bay Ridge seat, according to a neighborhood Democratic operative…. ‘It’s problematic for that club and I would not be surprised if Kevin wanted to throw his hat in the ring, a campaign would make strong note of the fact that his club has a president who supports Donald Trump and I think it would be hung around his neck and be a huge weight around him,’ the source said….”

But Kevin Peter Carroll seemed okay with all of it. He said that his club welcomes different ideologies — even wildly different ones.

However, Carroll was quick to point out that Khatari doesn’t speak for him or the club as a whole.

Julianne Cuba then quoted Mr. Carroll, as follows: “There’s no litmus test when a person becomes active in our club…. If you’re talking about the Democratic club as a whole, it was strongly for Hillary Clinton. The proof is in the pudding. Kathy doesn’t speak for Brooklyn Democrats for Change. I should be judged if I run for city council on what I do — not what people in an organization do. I think it’s wrong to equate my run for City Council based on what other people do….”

Oddly, Ms. Cuba was able to reach Kevin Carroll for comments, but not Ms. Khatari.....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kevin has no club. He proved what a phony he was when he claimed to be a reformer then voted for Vito & got himself and his relatives no show jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Justin Brannan had his shill Julianne Cuba dutifully put out a hit piece on Kathy because she wouldn't back him. This is so transparent and obvious to locals. He was kissing up to her until he realized she'd be loyal to Kevin and then he went after her.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm confused. How can Kevin Peter Carroll run for office as a Democrat if his "Democratic" club endorsed Donald Trump? Also I haven't seen Kevin "on the scene" in well over 2 years. I swear I thought he moved to New Jersey. I am voting for Nancy Tong. The new leadership we need.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Every racial, religious and ethnic group dominant in in the 43rd Council District prior to the 2000 census declined based on the 2010 census. Those trends appear to have continued or even accelerated through to the present. Both political parties should be anticipating these trends; however only the Democratic Party has been amenable to Muslim Arabs and East Asians, with candidates like Nancy Tong and Linda Sarsour, and to a lesser extent the Christian pastor, El-Yateem, who also seems to have some Muslim support.

    ReplyDelete
  25. what is this idiot above talking about with "census trends"??????? There is no chinese or muslim vote. None. thats not a biased statement, its a fact. This is a done deal for Quaglione.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The commenter who talked about the census is right about the votes too. The Italian-American Republican vote is disappearing faster than any other in Brooklyn, that's why Bob Capano and John Quaglione got lower vote totals than Pat Russo. Don't think that helps Liam McCabe at all, because he needs the same exact voters and they just ain't there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Carroll at the DA's office is a cousin, not Kevin's brother.

  30. Thank You comment at 8:08 AM. I wasnt sure there was any relation and I'm also not sure whether it matters if assistant district attorney John Carroll is a cousin or a brother. The point was the relative went on Hynes payroll after Kevin was elected. But the next point you'll make is that politics had nothing to do with it.

  31. Lets not forget that Vito also got Kevin a no show job as a councilmans scheduler after Kevin beat Perfetto.

  32. RESPONSE: THE "LET'S GET REAL FOR A SECOND" EDITION

TO SEVERAL OF THE ABOVE "COMMENTERS"

I KNOW THAT SEVERAL OF THE "COMMENTS" ARE KNOWINGLY "FAKE NEWS" OR AT BEST UNINFORMED SNARKINESS AIMED AT KPC

Brothers aren't cousins (except in certain Christian sects who call Jesus' brothers his cousins).....

The Carrolls of Windsor Terrace, Kensington and Bay Ridge are a large, politically connected and politically active family, which includes deep union connections. Even if the cousin's getting the DA spot were to involve some politics --- and there is no evidence that it did --- there is no evidence that Kevin Peter Carroll was in on any such "deal" with Hynes or anybody else.....

Also, about the Carroll-Perfetto Democrat leadership race --- KPC beat Mr. P in a rather one-sided race, with KPC taking almost every Brooklyn ED in the 64th AD (the sub-AD electing the 1/2 Leader). In the race itself, Ralph was taking out ads in Irish papers and having meetings with people who couldn't move any votes, while KPC was leading an effort that moved several of Mr. Perfetto's long-time supporters and workers, and going door to door to targeted Democratic voters.

Last, after the 64th AD 1/2 leader's race was won by KPC, the 1/2 Distict vote cast by KPC was not necessary to elect Vito Lopez as the Democrat County Leader (I believe the other half vote by Ms. Seminara was cast against Lopez).

I commented on on the Julianne Cuba piece by turning what was reported in her article into a QUESTION about the possible impact of the whole Kathy Khatari thing.....

I'll even admit that the way I phrased that question might have been over the top and suggestive of the most dire significance. I did that to attract attention and generate more comments.....

AND --- To that extent, I think it succeeded.....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well Gale you are quick to carry water for Kevins rigged election as district leader. What you neglected to mention is the Carrolls (cousins, brothers, aunts, uncles) are all on the payrolls of brooklyn pols. The whole family.

You also neglected to mention that dirty DA Hynes indicted Perfetto on an unheard of misdemeanor charge just before the primary. Then Kevins relatives go on hynes payroll. Yes there are two Carrolls on the DA's payroll. One is making over $160,000 a year.

  34. RESPONSE: THE "LET'S SEE ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY OF SOME COMMENTS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:05 PM"

I think that you really hurt your credibility on anything that you commented upon when you start off with "fake news"..... HYNES NEVER INDICTED PERFETTO --- WHAT HE DID WAS INVESTIGATE PERFETTO >>> BASED ON A "COMPLAINT" BY ONE OF HIS ADAs <<< AND THEN HYNES TURNED THE FILE OVER TO THE GOP'S BIGGEST WHORE, DONOVAN, WHO DID THE DIRTY DEED

So the rest of what you had to say is now in the penumbra of doubt.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. Perfetto was an idiot. He showed up in court and acted as an attorney, even answering the judge's questions in open court (not on the witness stand).

The guilty parties here are not the prosecutors (Hynes, his staff, or Donovan). They merely followed the law.

    The guilty party was Perfetto.

He was guilty of impersonating a lawyer in open court, and guilty of being an idiot by running for re-election, and guilty of being really dumb by applying wholesale techniques (ads in newspapers, meetings with so-called opinion leaders) rather than the proven retail methods everyone knows you use in a primary, like door-to-door canvassing, mail, and phone calls to known, primary-voting Democrats in his district.

  36. SUR-RESPONSE: THE " DEMOCRAT'S 'RIGGED ELECTION' TROPE" EDITION

AGAIN, TO "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:05 PM"

I just noticed that your use of "rigged election" falls into anything that causes any Democrat candidate to lose. Interestingly, you indicated it also applies to Democratic Primaries, where both (all) sides are Democrats.....

IN SHORT, YOU BELIEVE, LIKE MANY DEMOCRATS, THAT REPORTING THE TRUTH DURING A PRIMARY OR GENERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN IS "RIGGING" IF IT MAKES YOUR CANDIDATE LOSE.....

BOY, SOME OF US ON THIS BLOG HAD BETTER WATCH OUR STEP ! ! !

After all, isn't it the generally accepted truth about how Hillary Clinton became the Democratic Presidential nominee that she won by putting all her people in at the DNC, and then they rigged a bunch of primary elections and caucuses ???

That's why EVERYBODY NOW KNOWS that BERNIE lost the Democratic nomination because of a very rigged process, involving rigged primaries and rigged caucuses.....

All of that was PROVED with hard evidence contained in many of the Wikileaks drops.....

So what do the hard-core Dems now say ??? Because of the Wikileaks (allegedly coming from the Russian hackers) and an FBI Director's letter the election was "rigged" against Hillary and that's why Trump won.

So the new meaning of a rigged election is any primary or general election in which any Democrat candidate loses --- that means all Democrat primaries, I guess; and any general election if the Republican wins.....

  37. Gale,

As a highly respected Carroll historian surely you should know that the high & mighty Carrolls of Windsor Terrace are NOT seen in the same light as the Carrolls of Bay Ridge.

Let's just say the Bay Ridge Carrolls seem to exist without the favor of birthright. Think of the Bay Ridge Carrolls as the "red headed stepchildren" of the larger Carroll Clan.

  38. ANOTHER COMMENT, ANOTHER RESPONSE: THE "YOU ARE STILL DOING THE 'FAKE NEWS'THING" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 12:59 PM"

YOU WILL HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIBILITY BY THE TIME YOU ARE DONE

First, there are no 'witnesses" at the kind of proceeding involved in the Perfetto case -- so stop the crap about "witness stand". Many people who aren't attorneys speak at arraignments. I've seen over half dozen NYC Detectives, standing in the well, just like "P.I." Ralph Perfetto, questioned about the case by judges during arraignments. Also, Judge La Porte knew Perfetto quite well, and she didn't admonish him in any way -- before, during and/or after the proceeding. Also the ADA, whose "complaint" allegedly started the Hynes investigation, said that he knew that Perfetto wasn't a lawyer, because Perfetto had appeared on other cases as an investigator. So, neither the judge nor the ADA did anything to stop Perfetto from doing what he did in court --- supposedly, they stood by, let a crime be committed --- and even after the crime had been committed in front of them they did nothing, along with a courtroom full of clerks, court officers and other knowledgeable people.

Next, DA Hynes investigated the case, but HE did nothing >>> until Perfetto indicated that he was again running to be the Democratic Leader in the 64th AD, the spot that KPC wanted.

There's more, but let's just leave it at that.....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lets call this the "Gale has it Half Right" edition.

Perfetto challenged Vito for the County leadership so Vito put out a hit on Ralph. The hit was carried out by DA Hynes, the poor mans version of Luca Brazi. Then Vito summoned his stooge reformer Kevin Carroll, as the Carrolls have been masquerading as reformers for decades. That reform stuff evaporates when a crumb gets thrown there way. Not that Ed Carrolls $160,000 a year is a crumb, but it beats working for a living.

  40. OMG, OPEN RACISM: THE "BIGOTRY AGAINST GINGERS" EDITION

RESPONSE TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 1:06 PM

I WON'T STAND BY AND LET SOMEBODY CALL THE SO-CALLED "BAY RIDGE CARROLLS" >>> "RED-HEADED STEP-CHILDREN" --- THAT VERY TERM IS HEINOUS

Even the less aggressive "ginger-haired" is no longer acceptable among most non-red-haired, non-freckled pasty-white progressives and liberals.

Let me join my voice to those who want all such bigotry, prejudice and even bias permanently banished from college campuses, shopping malls, TV, radio and the internet.

Now, to the issue at hand. All manner of "fake news" is coming out as a result of the dueling primaries for the major party spots to run for the City Council in the 43rd Counc. Dist. This mention of the "Bay Ridge Carrolls" being "red headed stepchildren" goes "A Bridge Too Far"..... I've known the Carrolls for many years; and I haven't ever spotted a carrot-top or Raggedy Ann among them --- not that it's a bad thing (as Seinfeld might say).

So let's step up for all the people with wacky coloring --- some of my best friends have been red-heads; and some of them are still stalking me.

  41. Perfetto never challenged Seddio for County Leader. He was a Seddio supporter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Knock it off with the fake news.

Perfetto opposed Vito. Kevin Carroll supported Vito. Look it up !!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Gale is right. Hynes wasn't involved in the hit job on Perfetto but that's because Hynes turned the case over to none other than then Staten Island D.A. Dan Donovan who was running for Attorney General at the time and needed a "good government" win against Schneiderman.

    THE PLOT THICKENS !!

Everyone knows Kevin's late father, Kevin Patrick, had his cronies set up Perfetto. They gave the "Cousin Vinny" story to Scott Shifrel of the Daily News.

The Cousin Vinny case had been pending for well nearly 2 years before Carroll Sr. tipped off the Daily News and that's when Hynes handed the case over and Dan Donovan as a campaign gift.

Otherwise, if I'm wrong, explain to me why Perfetto wasn't arrested right then and there and charged with Contempt of Court as well as practicing law without a license?

Why did it take the Special Prosecutor over 2 YEARS to bring just one misdemeanor charge?

    THE QUESTION CERTAINLY DOES BEG.

Kevin is not only connected to Trump but also none other than Dan Donovan !

    ReplyDelete
  44. The person who posted the comment above, 3:20 PM, obviously feels the need to chime in. However, consider not chiming in because you have no idea how stupid you are. After kissing Gales ass, the second sentence states "Hynes wasnt involved" because he turned case over to staten island DA Dan "Dandy Dan" Donovan. The "case" you are referring to is the investigation Hynes did on Perfetto. If Hynes had never contrived that "case" then there is no prosecution.

    Do you understand it now?

    ReplyDelete
  45. somebody needs to take a chill pill

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why the hell are we still talking about Perfetto?

  53. Which of those TWO facts do you want us to look at?

    ReplyDelete
  54. REAL FACT 1: Kevin Carroll defeated an incumbent who had been convicted in a highly publicized ethical scandal.

REAL FACT II: Kevin Carroll squandered whatever moral victory and reform record two days later by cutting a deal to vote for the establishment county chair, receiving a patronage job soon after.

    ReplyDelete
  55. REAL FACT 1 about Carroll defeating an incumbent who had been convicted in a highly publicized ethical scandal is in fact not true. Perfetto was convicted after the primary, so Carroll just plain old beat him.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Technically very true, politically very false. Kevin Carroll's campaign mailed out a real hit job flyer in the days before the primary that made a very big deal about Perfetto's legal problems.

The Carroll-Hynes connection was all about criminalizing the opposition. That is something disgusting that has been spreading in the politics across America.

    ReplyDelete
  57. RELEVANT REAL FACT: Kevin Peter Carroll has never held a real job a day in his life. He has lived off of his family's political connections and almost nobody can stand him.
