FLASH UPDATE: THE “ON THE TRAIL OF THE ASSASSINS” EDITION

NO, THIS ISN’T ABOUT ONE OF THE BOOKS THAT OLIVER STONE USED AS THE BASIS FOR HIS DIS-INFORMATIVE  MOVIE “JFK” …..

WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IS DIS-INFORMATIVE MSM COVERAGE LIKE THIS:   “TRUMP APPEARS TO ENCOURAGE GUN OWNERS TO TAKE ACTION IF CLINTON APPOINTS ANT-GUN JUDGES”  --  WA-PO

OR THIS:  "DONALD TRUMP SUGGESTS 'SECOND AMENDMENT PEOPLE' COULD ACT AGAINST HILLARY CLINTON"  --  NY TIMES

Here’s how the Washington Post covered  Donald Trump’s speech, which was delivered earlier today:   “Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Wilmington, N.C., on Tuesday, appeared to encourage gun owners to take action if Hillary Clinton is elected president and appoints judges who oppose gun rights….   The mogul said that Clinton ‘wants to abolish, to essentially abolish the Second Amendment,’ a charge she has flatly denied. He said that if Clinton becomes president, she could appoint judges that would leave Americans nearly helpless on this front….  ‘By the way, and if she gets to pick — if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,’ Trump warned. ‘Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know.’…”  (See “Trump appears to encourage gun owners to take action if Clinton appoints anti-gun judges” by Sean Sullivan & Isaac Stanley-Becker, 8/9/16, Washington Post/ Post Politics  [https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/08/09/trump-appears-to-encourage-gun-owners-to-take-action-if-clinton-appoints-anti-gun-judges/]).

But, just in case you might have missed the point,  HERE IS THE WA-PO’S REAL KICKER:  “….  It was not clear whether Trump was inciting gun owners to use their weapons against judges or a sitting president — or was encouraging some other action….”

ARE THE WASHINGTON POST ---  AND A WHOLE BANK OF MEMBERS OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA ---  BEING FAIR WITH THIS KIND OF COVERAGE ???

Given the headline mentioned above, is it fair commentary to specifically suggest the most negative interpretation of a vague or even ambiguous statement that might or might not be making an outrageous suggestion, while giving as an alternative only this: “… or was [Trump] encouraging some other action….”

TRY THIS ON FOR REAL OVERROUGHT & INFLAMMATORY RHETORIC ---  BTW,  IT’S FROM THE HILLARY CLINTON SIDE

Further into the Wa-Po coverage cited & quoted above was this bit of bomb-throwing:  ".... Clinton's campaign was also swift to respond to Trump's comments….   ‘This is simple — what Trump is saying is dangerous,’ Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement. ‘A person seeking to be the President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.’…   Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a Clinton supporter and staunch gun-control advocate, said on Twitter: ‘Don't treat this as a political misstep. It's an assassination threat, seriously upping the possibility of a national tragedy & crisis.’…"

NY TIMES STUMBLES ONTO THE TRUTH  ---  "OBLIQUE AS IT WAS...  REMARK ELICITED A WAVE OF CONDEMNATION..."  [This section was added to my original post at 2:00 AM, 8/10/16]

Perhaps the real measure of  this tempest in a teapot appeared briefly in the NY Times article on Trump's remark, where Maggie Haberman & Nick Corasaniti wrote,  “….  Oblique as it was, Mr. Trump’s remark quickly elicited a wave of condemnation from Democrats, gun control advocates and others, who accused him of suggesting violence against Mrs. Clinton or liberal jurists….”  However, don’t look for any honesty or objectivity in their article overall, which largely tracked what appeared in the Washington Post piece above (See “Donald Trump Suggests ‘Second Amendment People’ Could Act Against Hillary Clinton” by Nick Nick Corasaniti & Maggie Haberman, 8/9/16, NY Times/ Election 2016  [http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/10/us/politics/donald-trump-hillary-clinton.html?_r=0]).

  1. What you call the "mainstream media" is actually the liberal pro-Clinton, anti-Trump media. Their meltdown today talking about Trump's harmless remark showed how biased, un-professional and irresponsible they are. Most of all they are hypocrites.

Gail, don't forget you wrote that none of them had any problem when Hillary Clinton's top military advisor, General John Allen, predicted that there might be a military coup if Trump got elected and gave orders to carry out some of his anti-terrorist plans.

AGAIN DONALD TRUMP’S ENEMIES INSIDE THE ESTABLISHMENT & THEIR ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA BODYGUARDS ARE CALLING FOR TRUMP TO WITHDRAW FROM THE RACE --- BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THEY SAY HE MIGHT HAVE MEANT --- BASED ON HOW THEY SAW OR HEARD IT

    >>> According to a Brian Selter report for CNN-Money “Former anchorman Dan Rather has issued a challenge to his colleagues: ’This cannot be treated as just another outrageous moment in the campaign.’… Rather is talking about Donald Trump's remark that ‘Second Amendment people’ might be able to stop Hillary Clinton's appointment of Supreme Court justices….” (See “Dan Rather calls Trump's 'Second Amendment people' comments a 'new low' “ by Brian Stelter, 8/10/16, CNN/ Money [http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/10/media/dan-rather-donald-trump/index.html]). Rather ranted on thus: “…. ‘To anyone who still pretends this is a normal election of Republican against Democrat, history is watching. And I suspect its verdict will be harsh,’ Rather wrote on Facebook shortly after it happened on Tuesday afternoon…. Rather -- who covered the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas -- called Trump's ‘Second Amendment people’ remark ‘a new low,’ unprecedented ‘in the history of American presidential politics.’… Writing about political figures who have reluctantly endorsed Trump, he said, "Many have tried to do a side-shuffle and issue statements saying they strongly disagree with his rhetoric but still support the candidate. That is becoming woefully insufficient. The rhetoric is the candidate."… Fellow journalists were the other audience for his Facebook post…. ‘We will see whether major newscasts explain how grave and unprecedented this is and whether the headlines in tomorrow's newspapers do it justice,’ he wrote. ‘We will soon know whether anyone who has publicly supported Trump explains how they can continue to do.’… Rather was the anchor and managing editor of the ‘CBS Evening News’ for more than 20 years. He now hosts an interview series on AXS TV and runs a production company [What Seltser didn’t happen to mention was how Dan Rather had to leave CBS News in disgrace after doing a false news report about George W. Bush]…. Earlier this week, reacting to a ‘Reliable Sources’ segment about Trump, Rather wrote that ‘This is perhaps the most important time in election history for the media. It's time for some reporters, especially those that often interview Donald Trump, to get a spine. Tough questions are our job.’…"

Meanwhile more and more media sources piled on Trump to withdraw from the race. For example the NY Daily News went completely wacko --- with its Wednesday front page calling for Donald Trump to end his presidential campaign – and (See "This isn't a joke any more." Headline NY Daily News, 8/19/16, Ny Daily News/ Front Page [https://twitter.com/NYDailyNews/status/763179733785927680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw]).

Morning Joe Scarborough and his completely toxic panel chimed in as well – calling Trump’s candidacy “toxic for democracy” [Mike Barnacle] and Trump’s remarks “disqualifying – [because] he crossed a rubicon yesterday…” [Jon Meachum][ panel also including Willie Geist and Mika Brzezinski] ( See “ ‘His candidacy is now toxic to democracy’: ‘Morning Joe’ panel denounces Trump for Clinton threat” by Brad Reed [w/ video link to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program], 8/10/16, Raw Story [http://www.rawstory.com/2016/08/his-candidacy-is-now-toxic-to-democracy-morning-joe-panel-denounces-trump-for-clinton-threat/]).
