A while back, the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization asked this provocative question: “WHAT EXACTLY IS MARTY GOLDEN TRYING TO ‘PULL’?”

“Apparently, lack of conviction for the betterment and growth of the Brooklyn GOP has become a familiar modus operandi for [the (sarcastic comment) Marty Golden]. He has become the role model for taking advantage of a situation, like many dysfunctional Albany politicians….”

Lately, things seem much the same here in Brooklyn with Golden seemingly tepid about Trump

In April, the web page of the Fiorello La Republican Organization’s website contained an article noting an apparent vagueness or even a contradiction in Republican State Senator Marty Golden’s endorsement-of-a-sort for the eventual GOP presidential nominee, Donald Trump.  Here’s what was said on behalf of one of Brooklyn’s strongest Republican dual assembly district  operations about Golden’s shenanigans, at the time:

In Julianne Cuba’s recent article, “Marty Golden says he’s pulling for Trump,” [http://www.brooklyndaily.com/stories/2016/16/pl-golden-trump-2016-04-15-bk.html] NYS Senator Marty Golden stated that he is ‘leaning Donald, so let’s see what happens, whoever the Republican party supports, that’s who I will support.’…  This attitude is certainly not an indication of leadership, but only an inclination towards his own interest and to make sure that he covers his bases while “waiting for things to happen,” during this very important and historic Presidential campaign…..  One would expect that the only person who is supposed to represent all Republicans in Brooklyn in the State Senate in Albany would lead the charge with so many divided Republican voters. Why isn’t he choosing the Republican candidate that he believes to be helpful to the Republican Party? Does he believe that none are beneficial to the Party? OR Is he waiting to see which Presidential candidate will be more beneficial to Marty Golden?  …  In our opinion, Marty Golden’s convenient lack of choice, by not choosing any of the three candidates for President who are battling for delegates in NY State and in Brooklyn, is another divisive tactic that clearly indicates insecurity and lack of conviction, especially for his Republican constituents. Apparently, lack of conviction for the betterment and growth of the Brooklyn GOP has become a familiar modus operandi for our esteemed State Senator. He has become the role model for taking advantage of a situation, like many dysfunctional Albany politicians, and he is obviously looking for the best ‘deal,’ not just for [GOP Presidential selection process], but for his own political future….” (See “WHAT EXACTLY IS MARTY GOLDEN TRYING TO ‘PULL’?” by Lucretia Regina-Potter - Republican District Leader 46th AD, 4/15/16, Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization/ Commentary [http://www.laguardiarepublicanclub.org/2016/04/15/what-exactly-is-marty-golden-trying-to-%e2%80%9cpull%e2%80%9d/]).

SINCE APRIL, A LITTLE OF THIS & THAT,  BUT LITTLE HAS CHANGED VIS A VIS MR. GOLDEN

Early in May, State Senator Martin Golden [said that] having Donald Trump as the Republican nominee in the race for president will help the GOP not only maintain their majority in the State Senate come November, it may even help them gain a few more seats….”  On the other hand “….  The Senate Republican conference … [did not announce any] endorsement for a particular candidate, though Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan has said he will support whoever end[ed] up as the nominee….”  Nonetheless, Marty Golden remained verbally supportive of Trump:  “I think Donald Trump will bring a tremendous number of people to the polls, bring new people out to the polls and give us an opportunity….  Just in my area alone … he got 80 percent of the vote. The same thing in Staten Island of the great city and state.” (See “Golden: Trump as Nominee Helps Senate GOP” by Dan Clark, 5/4/16, State of Politics-NY Blog [http://www.nystateofpolitics.com/2016/05/golden-trump-as-nominee-helps-senate-gop/]).
However, a little later in May and after the NYS GOP Primary was won by Trump, one of the first very strange anti-Trump things began to happen among the Golden faction of the Brooklyn GOP.  Glenn Nocera, the 44th AD District Leader, who is loyal to the Marty Golden faction in the on-going Brooklyn GOP leadership fight, was NOT selected as a delegate or even an alternate from the 44th AD even though Nocera was a strong Trump supporter (See “Trumps Reps Lose Chance For More Loyal Brooklyn Delegates”  by  Kings County Politics, 5/20/16 [http://www.kingscountypolitics.com/trumps-reps-lobbied-loyalist-brooklyn-delegates/]).  Golden’s  guy  Ted Ghorra was quite dismissive of Nocera’s complaints, while Nocera noted that the LaGuardia folks were strongly supportive.

THE POST-CONVENTION HANG-OVER QUAGLIONE'S EVAN MCMULLIN THING

After Golden went to the GOP convention, as a Trump alternate,  he humiliated himself, the New York State Delegation and the Brooklyn GOP with his hotel bar-room antics. And lately, since, Trumps August gaffs and serious slippage in the polls, it’s been tough to find Golden talking about Trump at all.

That’s what makes this so very interesting and important.  Look at what appeared ever so briefly IN A DISPLAY BOX at the bottom of a Twitter page belonging to State Senator Marty Golden’s Vice Chief of Staff John Quaglione [please excuse the codes, I left them as is, when I transferred it]:

  3. Fact: Golden has passed more legislation than any any other member of Senate

Fact: Golden is so popular in his district that he runs without opposition

Fact: With a solid background in law enforcement word is that Golden may be the next head of homeland security in Trump or Clinton administration

  5. GM, I know that you have more news from the LaGuardia Club like this:

How Lucretia Regina-Potter knocked-off Mikhail Usher from the GOP line in the 46th AD -- he was not a Republican, had no Wilson-Pakula authorization and lots of bad signatures on a petition topped by State Senator Marty Golden. This Golden-Sttorobin-McCabe-Quaglione joint effort in the 46th AD was a classic FAIL -- their candidate was ruled off the ballot by the BOE.

How Lucretia Regina-Potter and Phyllis Carbo knocked off Malka Shahar from the GOP line in the 47th AD -- Shahar wasn't a Republican - she was a Conservative, she presented a swag (invalid) Wilson-Pakula authorization signed by John Quaglione and submitted only 110 valid signatures on a petition topped by State Senator Marty Golden. This Golden-Kassar-McCabe-Quaglione joint effort in the 47th AD was a classic FAIL -- their candidate was ruled off the ballot by the BOE.

  6. The Brooklyn Republican Fiorello LaGuardia Organization? Its a handful of people who sit in dark rooms scanning thousands of signatures year round. You people crack me up. You are bragging about knocking people off the ballot as if its a laudable accomplishment. So you knocked off Usher in the 46th and Shahar in the 47th? Now who are we left with running? LUCRETIA "15 TIMES A LOSER" REGINA POTTER and
Phyllis "I just need to see my name on a ballot I don't actually try to win" Carbo? You people need to get lives that don't exclusively center and revolve around going to strangers homes and having them sign petitions. PATHETIC.

  7. Sure sounds like somebody that doesn't do much petitioning. Most of Marty Golden's supporters do fit into that category, both Golden and McCabe are lucky nobody challenged that petition, or the GOP line would have been blank for state senator in Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Gerritsen Beach and Marine Park.

  8. Not sure what sounds may indicate but facts demonstrate that LaGuardia Club not a Republican political organization but a group of delusional, angry, and downright creepy people who have WAYYYYY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS and all they like to do is knock on strangers doors year round getting them to sign petitions. It's one thing to be a dedicated hard working petitioner for your party who powers on despite it being such a thankless task, it is another kind of loony bird that relishes knocking on people's doors from dusk to well after dawn year round and still having enough free time to go to the BOE and challenge the petitions of other prospective candidates so that they don't lose another primary election but instead somehow prefer to lose the general by a huge margin.

  9. EXCLUSIVE SCOOP: THE "INSIDE THE LA GUARDIA ORGANIZATION 'SWITCH'" EDITION

HOW BROOKLYN CONSERVATIVE PARTY CHAIRMAN KASSAR BLEW-UP THE GOLDEN-FERRARO DEAL --- BEFORE IT EVEN WAS MADE

Before the 2015 Kings County GOP Convention, the delegates held by the "irrelevant" Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization were the jealous objectives of both the "Eaton..." and "Golden..." factions of the Brooklyn GOP. Marty Golden thought he had a deal with Arnaldo Ferraro --- it was simple, offer to let Dr. Ferraro retain his Executive Vice Chairman position in exchange for the LaGuardia Club proxies. Unlike the Golden demand, however Dr. Ferraro and the 46th AD State Committee Members insisted that they hold their own proxies to actually vote them for the slates presented to the convention by the respective sides. The Golden faction placed Ferraro into its Executive Vice Chair slot.

What Golden didn't know was that there was no "DEAL" and there most likely never would be any "DEAL."

All of it was because State Senator Golden's Chief of Staff Gerard Kassar had poisoned the well some time before the eve of the convention meetings to finalize the "Deal" between Golden and the leaders of the FLGRO. In fact, as court testimony later disclosed quite clearly, the LaGuardia representatives at the last pre-convention meeting with the Golden faction were there to witness the goings-on by the Golden faction and observe the handling of the Golden proxies. By the time of those last meetings, the Eaton-LaGuardia Organization deal had been in the works and was 90% a done deal.

    Here's why:
Even though the Eaton-LaGuardia side's pre-convention vote count showed that the Golden faction and the newly formed Eaton-LaGuardia faction were still almost in a dead heat, none of the LaGuardia leaders wanted to complete any deal giving their proxies to Golden.

The reason for that reluctance was this: at an earlier meeting, the Conservative Party Chairman, Kassar, had attempted a naked shake-down of the LaGuardia Organization. Kassar, in his capacity as Conservative Party Chairman AND obviously as an agent for Marty Golden, attempted to extort a transfer of the LaGuardia Organization proxies to Kassar for him to turn over to Golden. That attempted extortion by Kassar was backed-up by a real threat of a material reprisal involving the Conservative Party's not giving Wilson-Pakula's to any LaGuardia Club endorsed candidates in any pending or future elections.

AND THAT MY FRIENDS WAS THE BACKGROUND AND REASON THAT DR. FERRARO AND THE LAGUARDIA ORGANIZATION MADE THEIR APPARENT "SWITCH" FROM GOLDEN TO EATON --- IT WAS KASSAR'S HEAVY-HANDED ATTEMPT TO GORILLA DR. FERRARO

I SPOKE TO THE GOOD DOCTOR RECENTLY AND HE SOUNDED WELL AND IN GOOD SPIRITS; AND HE SAID THAT HE WAS FULLY EXPECTING SUCCESS ON AN APPEAL OF THE PART OF JUSTICE WALKER'S DECISION INVALIDATING HIS ELECTION AS CHAIRMAN OF THE KCRP --- EVENTUALLY, UPON MY QUESTIONING BASED ON PROVOCATIVE REMARKS, THE TIMELINE AND THE IN-AND-OUTS, WHICH I JUST DESCRIBED ABOVE WERE RECOUNTED TO ME..... [AND MORE THAN THAT -- SOMETHING THAT RINGS OF REAL CRYSTAL-BALL FUTURISM CONCERNING THE CURRENT PLANS OF THE KINGS COUNTY CONSERVATIVE PARTY SEEKING GREENER FIELDS AND AN EXPANDED ROLE LOCALLY]

  11. RESPONSE: THE "RIFLEMAN" EDITION

ONLY TWO PEOPLE THAT I KNOW REMEMBER CHUCK CONNORS AND/OR THE "RIFLEMAN"

Andy McCauley remembers Chuck Connors playing minor league ball at Kingston in the 40's -- he also knows there was some kind of Western TV Show in the 50's.....

The only person who makes comments on this blog and is familiar with the "Rifleman" loves Chuck Connors so much, that he still lives in Connor's old neighborhood & his best friend is an actor that looks a lot like good old Chuck.

I think we agree that Connors' best role was in "The Big Country" with the pistol-dueling scene against the star, Gregory Peck. Another star in that movie was Charlton Heston -- the two "Chucks" faced-off in "Soylent Green" and Connors lost that fight too.

  12. Congratulations GM you are actually in the ballpark of what happened last year. Now let me tell you the non BS version that doesn't come from your usual source on these matters. Last year when everyone knew Pam Harris was going to be the Democratic candidate for Assembly, local Republicans were salivating. At least four different Republicans not named Potter approached Craig Eaton about running--since the decision regarding who the nominee was basically his-- and particularly since even a convicted felon running on the Republican line had a good chance of winning that race. Lucretia made a deal with Craig that if he gave her the nomination she would back him at the convention. Long story short LRP became delusional once again and thought that she could win the race if Marty Golden backed her so she made a deal with him. Kassar was not involved in any of the negotiations but was actually lining up support for her at the request of Golden. She stabbed Craig in the back (although he is too proud to admit it) when Craig found out that is when he realized he had no choice but to "blow it up" and make Arnaldo Chair to outdo Golden. Both sides found out about this and tried to get Golden and Eaton to patch things up and compromise. Mutual friends held heated negotiations until the night before to prevent it. So I guess you got some parts right but basically Arnaldo became Chair because Lucretia stabbed Craig in the back but he was and is smarter than all of them combined and got the last laugh after all.

  13. Well lets set the record straight on the person Hollywood created known as Chuck Conners.
His real name was Kevin Conners and grew up in Brooklyn, his family, OLPH people.
A staunch GOP activist who had business dealings in the military industrial complex.
His father was a drinker, his mother a card player. His mother lived out her final years in a house Kevin bought her on 57th street between 5th & 6th avenues. Her son offered to buy her a house in Bay Ridge or California. But, her family and friends were in OLPH.
Kevin also was listed in Guiness book of World records as only person to play professional football, baseball, and basketball.

Besides that he was a regular guy.

  14. RESPONSE: THE "HIT AND MISS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:37 PM" -- YOU GOT IT RIGHT

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:48 PM" -- YOU GOT IT WRONG

First the praise: Obviously, this comment maker is a close friend or family member of the Connors family, lived in OLPH parish themselves and often talks about Chuck Connors to this day. That rules out Andy McCauley who knows all about Chuck Connors, but only talks about Connors' 1940's days playing First Base for Kingston.

Next the rebuff: 8:48 PM started out nicely enough with this: "Congratulations GM you are actually in the ballpark of what happened..." Nice use of psychology, but I like it more as a partial admission..... 8:48 PM's whole story has more holes than a Swiss cheese and it's just one side's version. I also liked the use of "blow it up" in quotes -- that phrase sounds very familiar and comfortable to me and the way it all went down.

The report in my comment above is from the "side" that was right in the middle of a convoluted three-way double-cross with lots of retrograde movements by the other sides. Given my own inside knowledge of how this all went down, I think that this telling of Arnaldo's and the LaGuardia Club's version has a ring of reality to it.

DON'T FORGET THE MAIN POINT OF MY COMMENT ABOVE IS THAT IN 2015 THE BROOKLYN CONSERVATIVE PARTY CHAIRMAN GERARD KASSAR TRIED TO EXTORT THE REPUBLICAN PROXIES OF THE FLGRO TO USE TO BENEFIT HIS BOSS MARTY GOLDEN AT THE BROOKLYN REPUBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION

  15. GM I understand why you are very supportive and sympathetic of the LaGuardia Club since they are one of your main sources of information for this blog but don't let things get out of control to the point that they are using you to revise history whole cloth. Lucretia stabbed Craig in the back that is a fact, Kassar handed her the Conservative party nomination because she made a secret deal with Golden. Lucretia and Arnaldo didn't throw their support back to Craig because of anything that Kassar did or didn't do. They didn't support Ghorra only because it meant that Arnaldo would become Chairman, that's all there is to it, the rest of your response is excuses and nonsense straight from LRP.

  18. Chuck Connors' show The Rifleman was also co-created by, and had many episodes directed by, the legendary filmmaker Sam Peckinpah.

Peckinpah directed films like The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs, The Getaway, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and The Osterman Weekend.

Please note that *none* of these films or television shows used the Bay Ridge Manor or its catering services for craft services -- yet they went on to be highly successful!

  22. The complaint was made in early 2016 by a Democrat in the 49 th AD active in the local organization. The complaint which I have not read but have been told says that on numerous occasions during Potter's Assembly race it was observed that there was campaign activity moving back and forth from her campaign office located next to the federation into the federation office. The federation in essence was an annex to her campaign
