Prospective City Council Candidate Capano Attacks City Hall Policies in Sheepshead Bay speech
Brooklyn’s Young Republicans say Bob Capano’s leadership in New York City is essential in these times
Earlier this week
there was a flurry of commentary about the City Councilmember from the 43rd Council District,
Vincent Gentile, going through the preliminaries in preparation for the
consideration of his candidacy to the Civil Court bench in the current election
cycle.
It is against that
backdrop that Bob Capano, the long-time Republican activist and a potential
candidate for the City Council in Brooklyn's 43rd district (Bay Ridge, Dyker
Heights & parts of Bensonhurst), which will be vacated by Vincent Gentile no
later than next year due to term limits, continued his appearances at Brooklyn Republican
clubs to outline a message that he hopes the GOP will pick up and deliver to
voters over the next two years.
According to a
variety of sources, Capano most recently spoke to the Brooklyn Young
Republicans on Wednesday, May 18th at their meeting in the Sheepshead
Bay offices of the Eaton and Torrenzano law firm.
President of the
Brooklyn Young Republicans Vito DiGiovanni said, "It was an absolute
pleasure to have Bob come speak to our club. He is a conservative role model
that every young
Republican should
look up to. His leadership in New York City is essential today."
Following his
speech, Mr. Capano's took numerous questions about the direction of our city,
and delivered a message to Brooklyn Republicans that Capano believes will
engage new voters and younger residents in the borough. Capano also said, "It is clear that Vito DiGiovanni
and the Brooklyn Young Republicans are not only committed to growing the
Republican party, but also improving our local neighborhoods. They are smart,
dedicated, and passionate and I look forward to working closely with them for
our borough and city."
MORE ABOUT WHAT CAPANO SAID TO BROOKLYN YRS
As part of his
remarks, Capano spoke about the nickel bag fee that was recently passed by the
New York City Council. He said, "When people just want to get home to
their families as quickly as possible after working all day, they will now have
to deal with longer lines in stores as cashiers will have to count each bag
used to know how much to add to the bill. All of these nickels will add up, especially
for seniors, those on fixed incomes, and middle-class New Yorkers just trying
to make ends meet. I expect the 28 Council Members who voted for this to face
serious primary and general election challenges next year. Brooklynites and New Yorkers already have enough stress and aggravation in
their lives, and it already costs too much to live here without City Hall
making it worse with laws like this one." Capano has been on various
New York media outlets,
including Curtis Sliwa's Drive at Five show on WABC radio, 1010 WINS,
Channel 2, Channel 9, Channel 7, and Good Day New York on Fox 5
with Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto opposing this legislation.
Capano also
attacked the criminal justice policies of City Hall that have "created an
environment that has emboldened criminals and has made the job of police
officers more dangerous." He cited recent proposals by City Council
Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito to de-criminalize many quality of life crimes and
erasing open warrants for criminal offenders. "I am confident that the
vast majority of Brooklynites and New Yorkers, regardless of political party
affiliation, do not want to go back to the David Dinkins bad old days",
Capano declared. He also expressed outrage that many Brooklyn democratic
elected officials and leaders have not stood up to the City Council Speakers'
proposals. Capano said Republicans "must make it clear that we will defend
the NYPD and give them the tools and support to keep our neighborhoods
safe."
Finally,
Capano, who was also a high school social studies teacher in Brooklyn, stated
that the city administration is taking our city in the wrong direction with
public and private education. He noted that this is another issue that cuts
across political party lines as all parents want the best education for their
children. Capano attacked the Mayor and Chancellor for loosening student
suspension regulations in public schools, stating that allowing disruptive
students to stay in classrooms without consequences hurts the education of
other students trying to learn. He said state statistics support his claim,
"There were almost 16,000 violent incidents in NYC public schools last
year- an increase of 23%, and the highest level in a decade. There was also a
48.4% increase in assaults that resulted in serious injury. We must change
public school policies to create a stronger learning environment in our public
schools." He also supported education tax credits and an increase to the
cap on charter schools, which the Mayor and City Council Speaker have opposed.
Capano noted that he is the product of both public and private schools in Bay
Ridge, attending P.S. 185, P.S. 104, St. Patrick's, and Xaverian High school.
I dont see Gentile winning that race for Civil Court Judge. Boro Park will control that race especially in a low turnout. Maybe Gentile is getting a criminal court judge appointment from the Mayor.
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE "WHAT CAN I SAY ?" EDITION
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm !
Is that so ?

ReplyDeleteWow !!
ReplyDeleteA schoolteacher is going to run for city council. I'm just beaming with excitement
He's not a republican but Justin Brannen would do a good job.
ReplyDeleteGood point from RINO above.
ReplyDeleteJustin can ride in on wave of deblasio popularity
UPDATE: THE "MEANWHILE BACK IN THE REAL WORLD" EDITION
ReplyDeleteFOR ALL THOSE BOB CAPANO FANS OUT THERE, HE'S STILL IN THERE PITCHING --- HERE'S THE LATEST
ONE BIG THING IS MISSING FROM CAPANO'S OTHERWISE EXCELLENT REMARKS

CAPANO SAYS: BAY RIDGE DEMS MUST STAND UP & OPPOSE CITY COUNCIL BILL TO BE VOTED ON TOMORROW TO DE-CRIMINALIZE QUALITY OF LIFE OFFENSES
HE NOTES THAT URINATION ON STREETS & PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES IN PARKS WILL BE DOWN-GRADED TO CIVIL VIOLATIONS ACCORDING TO THE PROPOSED COUNCIL BILL
__________________
Here's what the probable GOP Candidate for City Council Bob Capano says about these issues: "Throughout my long history of public and community service in Brooklyn, I have always taken great pride in working for and with Democrats and Republicans. I have taken on some of the extreme views of my own Republican Party, and now I hope there are some Democratic leaders in our community who will do the same here, and stand up to City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito and her far-left criminal justice 'reforms' that will tie the hands of our police officers and send the wrong message to criminals. The NYPD needs to make the decisions on how to enforce quality of life crimes, not the City Council."
Bob C. went on to say: "The bill would reduce many quality of life offenses including public urination and violations of parks rules, from criminal enforcement to civil penalties. Capano specifically called on Councilman Vincent Gentile, and democratic leaders Chris McCreight, Justin Brannan, and Kevin Peter Carroll to unequivocally oppose this bill publicly."
Capano also made these observations: ".... [T]those who commit these 'minor' crimes are often wanted for more serious crimes and that police officers need to have the flexibility to search their criminal history instead of just giving them a summons. 'Unfortunately, this is a continuation of City Hall policies that is creating an environment that emboldens criminals, makes the jobs of cops more difficult, and reduces our quality of life. I am confident that the vast majority of Brooklynites and New Yorkers, regardless of political party affiliation, do not want to go back to the David Dinkins bad old days'..."

What Bob Capano missed in these remarks was a well-aimed shot across the bow of State Senator Marty Golden, and Golden's gang that can't shoot straight. --- That they need to get behind Capano and follow his lead ASAP.
They need to see what's what & that 2016 comes before 2017.....
Bob is politically right attaching potential council dem candidates to de blasio and viverito..smart
ReplyDeleteGood point above but it requires a GOP Mayoral Candidate. And lets not go back to Lhota or the fat guy who owns the supermarkets
ReplyDeleteAgree with 454 pm
ReplyDeleteCatsimatidis would have had a decent shot at defeating DeBlasio but Golden and his Conservative cronies backed Joe "22%" Lhota.
ReplyDelete"DONT BLAME ME I VOTED FOR JOHN CATS IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY"
ReplyDeleteI heard that Bob has formed a quite impressive "kitchen cabinet"
ReplyDeleteBob looks like he spends a lot of time in the kitchen
ReplyDeleteCurtis Sliwa wants to run for Mayor?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should go for someone who got past the 5th grade.
UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “VOICE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY” EDITION
ReplyDeleteIN A REPORT QUOTING BOTH ELECTED & NON-ELECTED CITY OFFICIALS, BOB CAPANO IS THE ONLY REPUBICAN MENTIONED IN A “JP*UPDATES” ARTICLE --- IN FACT, CAPANO STANDS-OUT AS A LONE REPUBLICAN VOICE IN OPPOSITION TO A NYC COUNCIL BILL THAT WOULD ELIMINATE "QUALITY OF LIFE" TYPE CRIMES
CAPANO NOT ONLY CONTINUES TO SCORE WITH HIS “EARNED MEDIA” --- THIS TIME, HE ALSO PITCHED A SHUT-OUT AGAINST ALL OTHER REPUBLICANS
According to Chris Cruz, writing for the J*P Updates blog, “Low-level, non-violent criminal offenses will receive lower penalties after the New York City Council passed the Criminal Justice Reform Act (CJRA) on Wednesday. The council estimates that approximately 100,000 cases will be diverted from criminal court each year….” ( See “City Council Passes Criminal Justice Reform Legislation to Lower Penalties for Smaller Crimes” by Chris Cruz, 5/26/16, J8P Updates.com [http://jpupdates.com/2016/05/26/city-council-passes-criminal-justice-reform-legislation-to-lower-penalties-for-smaller-crimes/]).
The article then went on to quote several Democratic office-holders and other NYC officials -- however, that same article went on to quote one, and only one, Republican, who is neither an office-holder nor a city official – and that Republican is Bob Capano.
This is what the Cruz piece had to say about Bob: “…. Bob Capano, a prospective City Council Republican candidate for Brooklyn’s 43rd district criticized the decision, saying this is a ‘slippery slope.’… ‘Those who commit ‘minor’ crimes are often wanted for other offenses and that police officers need the flexibility to search their records and bring them in for questioning instead of being guided to just issue a summons,’…”
Gail, I know you've gone into the tank for Bobby-boo, but why have you not mentioned that Capano has been doing his shilling for the "Cat's Corner" Show every week since the year of the flood. Capano has had his name out there with almost every pol in the city, state and country -- including the likes of Hillary Clinton & Donald Trump [maybe even BERNIE, but I don't remember that]
ReplyDeleteRumor has it Capano is launching a website next week.
ReplyDeleteA website.
ReplyDeleteWell that should change everything
