Bob Capano’s Rapid Response to: JOHN QUAGLIONE’S ILL-ADVISED REMARKS TO "COURIER LIFE..." ABOUT CAPANO

Bob Capano Issues Statement To Local Paper About John Quaglione’s Attack In Print and On-line

To All My BSIs:  "The game's afoot..."

HERE IS WHAT THE BROUHAHA IS ALL ABOUT

Yesterday this comment appeared in a thread to the prior article about Bob Capano and his prospective City Council race that appeared below, and which was dated 4/14/16:

UPDATE: THE 'QUAGLIONE OPENING GAMBIT IS A BLUNDER" EDITION

JOHN QUAGLIONE THINKS THAT SLAMMING A "FELLOW REPUBLCIAN" IS A GOOD WAY TO START HIS RE-RUN FOR THE CITY COUNCIL -- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! GOOD ONE, QUAGS....

HERE'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT:

This appeared in ‘Courier Life's -- Brooklyn Daily’ by Julianne Cuba: ‘And after Bob Capano made public his desire to run for Vincent Gentile’s (D–Bay Ridge) Council seat next year, a few others have come out of the woodwork — including Golden staffer John Quaglione.... Quaglione slammed Capano for angling to represent a neighborhood he doesn’t even live in....  “If he lives in Staten Island and he wants to run again, then maybe he should run in Staten Island,”' Quaglione said. “But for our sake, Brooklyn deserves level-headed Republicans in the City Council, and we deserve someone who is in touch with the neighborhood and not someone who has left.”...  Quaglione says he knows the area better than carpet-bagger Capano, who would have to move into the district by election day to qualify for office.... The state senate staffer would focus on constituent services if elected, he said....  “The conversation needs to go back to basics,”  Quaglione said. “If you don’t feel safe, your garbage isn’t getting picked up, you’re getting a flat tire, you’re not happy with city services — that’s where the focus will be.” ‘ (See "Martin Golden says he’s pulling for Trump" by Julianne Cuba, 4/14/16, Courier Life's - Brooklyn Daily/ Party Line by Julianne Cuba [http://www.brooklyndaily.com/stories/2016/16/pl-golden-trump-2016-04-15-bk.html]).

More about this in a later posted article on this blog.....”

CAPANO REACTED QUICKLY IN RESPONSE TO THE QUAGLIONE STATEMENT QUOTED IN THE COMMENT ABOVE

The first thing that Bob Capano did was send a quick response to Julianne Cuba at 9:45 AM 4/14/16.  Then he sent a complete copy of the “Courier Life -  Brooklyn Daily” article cited above, along with his first response to the paper, to Capano’s current inner circle of politicos and reporters; that was done from 10:32 AM through 11:11 AM,  There were some E-mails back & forth. Then at 1:08 PM, 4/14/16,  Capano sent  out an updated statement [from which I took the Bob Capano statements that you see quoted below].

UPDATED STATEMENT BY BOB CAPANO ON JOHN QUAGLIONE’S COMMENTS TO LOCAL NEWSPAPER

Bob Capano got to the point very quickly in his updated electronic letter;  this being his lead line:  "I was very disappointed  to see that Mr. Quaglione decided to attack a fellow Republican because I had the audacity to express an interest in running for City Council….”

Showing that he has learned a thing or two about political PR over the years, Capano was right back ON MESSAGE, continuing with this:  “….  I am not happy with the direction of our city under Mayor de Blasio and Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito, especially the environment they have created through their quality of life "reforms" that has made our streets less safe, and made the jobs of our cops more dangerous. I want to help change this direction, and if I pursue a City Council bid, I want to do that for and from my home town community where I spent about 41 of my 43 years of life. During this time I was involved in countless organizations, including serving as the President of the 68th Precinct Youth Council, which provides over 1,100 children of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Bensonhurst with baseball and soccer programs.”   [ If you’ve been following Mr.  Capano, either here on this blog or in the local papers, you’d recognize that those lines are a key part of Capano's  current effort to publicize "quality of life issues" in Brooklyn --- in particular in the 43rd City Council District.]

The once and future candidate for the City Council wasn’t finished though.  In addition to all that he’d written above, Bob Capano turned his sights back on his new Republican nemesis,  John Quaglione.   Capano closed with these choice word about Mr. Quaglione:   “…. While I have worked in the private sector as a teacher and running businesses, which means meeting payrolls and budgets, Mr. Quaglione has literally been on the taxpayer's dime his entire adult life since college, working for one elected official. If it comes down to it, I am confident voters will choose someone with private and public sector experience working with top Republicans and Democrats, as I have done, versus someone whose only significant point on their resume is working for Marty Golden. "

IT IS INTERESTING TO TAKE NOTE OF THIS

Bob Capano so believed that John Quaglione had made quite a political blunder by making his remarks to the “Courier Life – Brooklyn Daily”  that Capano wanted everybody to see Quaglione’s remarks.  So he made sure that his missive to the paper, and others on his E-mailing list, closed with this:   “….   The link to Mr. Quaglione's comments are in the link below:

  2. Gail, it's been a while, but I see you're up to some of your very old tricks.

Riddle me this Batman: Why is it bad for John to slam Bob, but it isn't bad for Bob to slam John. Maybe, you aren't being fair in all this.

  4. UPDATE: THE "BOB CAPANO'S MOVIN' ON UP TO THE EAST SIDE...." EDITION

WHILE OTHERS OBVIOUSLY ARE ALREADY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO >>> "STOP BOB CAPANO" <<< OR AT LEAST >>> "SLOW HIM DOWN" <<< CAPANO SHOWED HOW HE'S PLUGGED-IN TO SOME BIG-TIME GOP TYPES

CAPANO ALSO TELLS HOW SOME OF "THE TRUMP MESSAGE" IS LIKE "THE CAPANO MESSAGE"

Here's Bob Capano's view on the big GOP Presidential Candidate event held at the Hyatt last night:
"It was great to attend the NYS Republican Gala at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan last night, where Republican leaders from throughout our great state heard from Donald Trump, John Kasich, and Ted Cruz. I have never seen the Republican Party so alive. We must seize this opportunity to build the Republican Party in our city as we look towards next year's city elections. As Donald Trump stated last night, if we are not careful New York City could easily reverse course and go back to the bad old days. I am afraid that we are already heading on that path with the criminal justice "reforms" implemented by the Mayor and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito that has created an environment making our streets less safe and the jobs of our cops more dangerous. A majority of Brooklynites today believe that our quality of life has got worse over the past few years."

  5. Gale, when are you going to jump all over JQ for this part, ".... The state senate staffer (Quaglione) would focus on constituent services if elected, he said.... 'The conversation needs to go back to basics.... If you don’t feel safe, your garbage isn’t getting picked up, you’re getting a flat tire, you’re not happy with city services — that’s where the focus will be.' ”

Your good old buddy, Justin Brannan, always used to tell you how John Quaglione always called Gentile's Office to get "HELP !" on all those things that JQ now says he's going to "focus" on. I'm pretty sure that JB has some good records on those calls from JQ for "HELP !"....

If you don't recall, be sure to ask JB all about it when you next have coffee or a beer with him.

  6. Quaglione quotes just show how out of touch he is with the mood of what is happening, he is worried about people getting flat tires.. i think the city has much bigger problems! Georgea, Simon, Ray and Marko need to advise john better

  7. Are these City Council bozos copying the Republican candidates running for president?

Since when is it good politics for one candidate to directly bait another candidate, and baiting back and forth just makes it worse.

  11. GM fanatically pro Capano as Team Lucretia and Justin basically only sources. Sad state in Brooklyn GOP constantly trotting out these retreads. Capano has lived outside of district for years while Quaglione seems to be living outside of reality.

    WHO ARE "JOHN'S PEOPLE" ???

    IS TED GHORRA ONE ???

    I DON'T THINK SO !!!

There's some jazz in the article mentioned above about Ted Ghorra -- is he one of John Q's people?

Any mention about Ted Ghorra's having any claim to being the Kings County Republican Chairman is an attack on the interests of Bob Capano; however, even if he doesn't know it, it's also an attack on the real interests of John Quaglione.

    Duh yuhzee whuddah mean ???

  17. RESPONSE: THE "JOAN RIVERS" EDITION

AS ONE FINE REPUBLICAN CELEB USED TO SAY OCCASIONALLY AS PART OF HER ACT OR WHEN SHE WAS BEING INTERVIEWED --- "OH, GROW UP !!!"

I'm not shy about a little bawdy humor, but the Janel Hyer-Spencer saga is more about political corruption than it is about who is doing slap and tickle with whom. One small part of it --- look at the "on our dime" jobs Janel got after losing to Nicole; and nobody raised the roof (btw, the Janel-Shelley story was being told & re-told sotto voce all-around even back then).

Don't forget, a few years back, a big-time national GOP effort to go directly at the corruption of the country's top Democrat, President Clinton, went down the drain because it segued into a sex story about Bill Clinton's bimbos and his lies about bimbos. The special prosecutor on the Clinton case, Ken Starr, has since acknowledged that the Monica Lewinsky thing distracted him and side-tracked his main investigation. The impeachment folks in congress followed Starr down that wrong path.

MONICA, SCHMONICA... THE POINT I WAS MAKING IS THAT DOIN' THE GOOD STUFF WITH A BAD GIRL, OR THE BAD STUFF WITH A GOOD GIRL, ISN'T NEAR THE REALLY BAD THINGS THAT THE GOP WANTED TO HAVE BILL CLINTON ANSWER FOR

I think I know who made the comment at 2:12 PM above.

All I can say is I never knew Dan Quayle, although I was at an event with him once; and it was the most media coverage that I ever received.... But I'm pretty sure that the person who wrote that comment at 2:12 PM is very much like Dan Quayle.

Also he should look up what Woody Allen had to say about "Showing Up..." at important events

  22. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "FYI" EDITION

WHILE SOME OF THE FRAT-BOY TYPES ARE HANGING ONTO THE JANEL HYER-SPENCER THING LIKE AN OLD DOG WITH A HAMBONE, BOB CAPANO IS BUSY DOING PROFESSIONAL & POLITICAL THINGS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF BROOKLYN --- INCLUDING THINGS THIS SUNDAY MORNING

MEANWHILE JOHN QUAGLIONE IS SPENDING HIS SUNDAY MORNING DOING ?????

Bob Capano keeps "Going & Going & Going..." like an energizer bunny. For example, he sends out several formal releases every Sunday morning as part of his PR duties on behalf of John Catsimatidis and his "Cats Roundtable" political radio program. This Sunday is typical: the first one today is about Mr. Catsimatidis' interview with "... Lester Chang, who is endorsed by the Republican, Independence, and Reform parties... about his race to replace Sheldon Silver in the 65th Assembly District in Manhattan. The special election is Tuesday and the district includes Downtown Manhattan and Battery Park City...." That's not all; last night, Bob sent out a "Cats Roundtable" pitch touting the appearance of John Kasich to headline the show; and I'm sure there will soon be another Capano release about what Kasich had to say today on the Cats' show.

As part of Bob's duties for his employer Gristedes is to send out public relations releases containing important messages advancing the public interest. The most recent one was "... in honor of Parkinson's Awareness Month..."; proclaiming that "... Gristedes Supermarkets announced that they are joining the fight against Parkinson's disease by supporting efforts to increase public awareness, and raising funds for research to find a cure and improve the quality of life for those battling the disease.... Parkinson's Awareness Month is in April each year. Seven to ten million people world-wide are living with Parkinson's disease." Also part of the daytime portion of Bob's job is doing cable presentations about the Gristedes operation and its products -- recently he did one about the chain's Roosevelt Island store.

On the political side of things, Bob accompanied John Catsimatidis to the NYS GOP Pre-Presidential Primary Gala at the Hyatt this week, sending out a running narrative of the event from the "Cat's' table, including closeup shots of the candidates from a seat near the podium. Prior to that Bob was with Catsimatidis at the annual "Inner Circle" dinner/roast -- the one where Hillary & de Blasio made their gaff-joke about "CP (Colored People's) Time"....

MEANWHILE WHAT HAS QUAGLIONE BEEN UP TO ???

I don't know; neither he nor any of his folks send me anything..... So what am I supposed to do, make stuff up ???

  24. We need more alternatives for the City Council besides Marty's Puppet, Cats'Puppet, and Jerry's Puppet. Any of those three will get trounced by a liberal Democrat in one of the most right leaning areas of NYC. Sorry GM but just because Capano has so much free time that he is constantly feeding you information doesn't make him a strong candidate, he is the weakest of the three and lives in another borough.

  32. A NON-RESPONSIVE RESPONSE: THE "BERNIE SANDERS" EDITION

INSTEAD OF A "NEW FACE" -- MAYBE WE SHOULD LOOK AROUND FOR SOME NEW PHRASEOLOGY ON THE GOP SIDE OF THE LEDGER.....

LET'S TRY THIS ONE ON FOR SIZE: "WHAT WE NEED IS NOW IS A PO-LIT-TICAL REVVV-OH-LOOO-SHUN..."[BORROWED FROM FORMER BROOKLYNITE BERNIE SANDERS]

HEY, MAYBE BOTH A "NEW FACE" -- AND -- NEW GOP PHRASEOLOGY

Not to get too Un-Johnnie Cochran about it -- I think it "fits like a glove" for Brooklyn Republicans and Conservatives. I'm sorry, but I don't think anything less is likely to work. After all wasn't that what the "Tea Party" was supposed to be doing ???

As an example of the zaniness that's passing for "GOP politics" in this town (including both City & State, I'm afraid) --- I got a robo-call from Brooklynite-Republican Joe Lhota soliciting my vote for John Kasich....

Maybe if commenter, "Anonymous said... 7:28 PM" had the name of a non-establishment Republican "fresh face" we could look in that direction. I can say with some certainty, that several people that I know will certainly give any well-scrubbed GOPer with a "fresh face" every consideration; and very likely, some important support.

Of course I would ask any such "fresh face" the following: "Are you ready to embark on 'A PO-LIT-TICAL REVVV-OH-LOOO-SHUN'?"

    ReplyDelete
  33. If capano supposedly hasnt lived in the district in so many years, would he be a "fresh face"...

  42. QUERY: THE "LOOKING FOR THE STAND-UP GUY" EDITION

WHAT WAS JOHN KASICH UP TO HERE IN OUR CORNER OF NEW YORK ???

THE CABLE NEWS ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT THE KASICH EFFORT IN NEW YORK STATE WAS VERY NARROW & TARGETED -- ACCORDING TO LOCAL NEWS COVERAGE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, ONE OF THE PLACES WHERE KASICH ATTEMPTED TO HAVE AN IMPACT WAS ON STATEN ISLAND AND IN SOUTHWEST BROOKLYN -- THAT'S LARGELY THE 11TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Early results pretty much show that Donald Trump seemed to have cleaned up in the 11th Congressional District -- where MOST of the Republican establishment in that district supported him.

That leaves us with some very important questions: 1) was Kasich serious in his electioneering efforts in that Southwest corner of New York City; 2) were the trickle of known Republicans in Brooklyn and Staten Island that said they supported Kasich, and/or were active in some of his efforts, serious; 3) will those who said they were for Kasich in the 11th Cong. Dist. stand up and explain what they were up to, since the Kasich effort in the Brooklyn Staten Island District turned out to be a big nothing.

The who, what, why and how of the >>> going through the motions -- looks only <<< Kasich Campaign in the 11th Cong. Dist. has many of the aspects of a dump. And is there anybody going to "stand up" for that -- and explain what it was all about to the rest of us ???

    ReplyDelete
  43. Need to ask john quaglione, he had the puff piece written about his support for kasich by paula katinas in the bay ridge eagle. Katinas also posted it on facebook today as a reminder of his support for kasich.

  44. That means Quags owns his part in the Kasich result, and what was that result, pretty close to a 10 to 1 loss by Kasich to Trump in Quaglione's congressional district.
