OMG, last night there was a GOP presidential debate on Fox News Channel ! ! ! --- Why wasn't I told ?

What happened to Trump ?

I'll bet the adults in the room put him in his place....   ---   If not the GOP candidates,  then certainly the folks from Fox   ---   I'm sure that Megyn Kelly ripped Donald a new asshole over something....  She telegraphed a while ago that she's gunning for him

By the end of the debate, I'll bet they backed him into a corner so he'd have to commit to backing the GOP candidate, even if it's not him

Too bad I can't write a better post about the debate until I READ about it later in the morning....

  2. UPDATE: THE "DRIBS & DRABS -- BITS & PIECES" EDITION

TRUMP WAS HUGE WHEN HE BITCH-SLAPPED THE WHOLE NATIONAL REPUBLICAN PARTY LIKE SAM SPADE SMACKED JOEL CAIRO -- AND THE GOP TOOK IT WITH A SMILE ON ITS LIPS & A TEAR IN ITS EYE

TRUMP ALSO DID THE "MALTESE FALCON" HUMPHREY BOGART TO PETER LORRE TO FOX A FEW TIMES -- BEING ESPECIALLY DISMISSIVE OF MEGYN KELLY AND HER AMBUSH FEMINIST QUESTION -- AND THE FOX MODERATORS SWALLOWED HARD AND TOOK IT TOO -- INCLUDING THE SOMETIMES NASTY BUT MOSTLY DIZZY-BLOND LIGHT WEIGHT BIMBO, MEGYN KELLY

Everything after Donald Trump's opening responses on last night's Fox News version of a multi-candidate debate was an anti-climax.

The first and most important question coming out of the debate is how Donald Trump being Donald Trump will play with the GOP base --- especially the part about not pledging to back the winner of the Republican Primary and convention process; or to put it another way, take the Trump campaign to another line in November if he doesn't get the Republican line.

Jeb Bush didn't help himself very much.... neither did Rand Paul....

Kasich played well to the "please hug me" left in the media, but people might have overlooked the fact that he's getting darn close to his "sell by" date; also he's solidly in the GOP-VP bracket, and Carly Fiorino, who's also in the VP bracket, did far better than he did in her stint on the dinner-time debate.

Let's see how the poll numbers shake out. If Carly breaks into the "top 10" that would make for a better more substantive second debate.

Also FOX deserved a "D" for the show that they put on -- I'll bet conservative Republicans across the country are having second thoughts about FOX on the morning after the repeated screwin' they got from FOX last night. Maybe it was the Baier-Wallace-Kelly team, because the 5:00 debate put on by McCallum & Hemmer was quite a good debate. Megyn Kelly stood out as somebody really not ready for the prime-time and the big-time. Ailes and FOX need to rethink their long-range strategy about this Megyn -- when she isn't being snarky, even downright nasty, she gets by being a cutesy carefree pretty blonde. You know, the pretty dizzy-blonde bimbo with a law degree, who's on a FOX News show -- the Ailes version of "Legally Blonde"

  3. UPDATE: THE " AHA ! I TOLD YOU SO...." EDITION

NEWSMAX CONFIRMS MY PREDICTION THAT CONSERVATIVES ARE FURIOUS WITH FOX NEWS BECAUSE DONALD TRUMP WASN'T TREATED FAIRLY

CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS LIT UP THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL NETWORKS WITH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FOX NEWS TREATMENT OF DONALD TRUMP AND THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM BY MEGYN KELLY

Newsmax is reporting something that confirms some of what I wrote in my comment above, at least four hours earlier. According to an article by Melanie Batley for Newsmax, "Fox News was facing a backlash from conservatives Friday after critics felt the network was biased and unfair in the manner it approached the forum, and namely, Donald Trump.... According to Media Equalizer, tens of thousands of observers swamped social media with criticism of Fox and the moderators, with some comments attracting more than 2,000 "likes...." (See "Conservatives Furious at Fox, Say Trump Wasn't Treated Fairly" by By Melanie Batley, 8/7/15, Newsmax [http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/Donald-Trump-treated-Megyn-Kelly-Fox/2015/08/07/id/669070/]).

Like my view of it, the brunt of right-wing ire was directed at Megyn Kelly personally. Posts on facebook and Twitter said that Megyn Kelly and Fox News "should be ashamed of themselves for their unfair demeanor towards Donald Trump. They apparently had their own agenda. Trump still did his thing though...."

Newsmax also quoted Dick Morris, a former FOX analyst, as follows: "Longtime political analyst Dick Morris said Fox News had 'obvious bias.'... 'Their anti-Trump bias was obvious. The questions were way too negative and often too personal. The network, which is built on being fair to conservatives, was manifestly unfair to them tonight,' Morris wrote."

And the report in Newsmax also said, "GOP presidential candidate Lindsey Graham said Fox News tried to make Trump look like 'the biggest bastard on the planet.'..."

  5. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “IT AIN’T SCIENTIFIC” EDITION

NEWSMAX SAY DRUDGE POST-DEBATE POLL GIVES TRUMP A “BOUNCE” TO 38%

GOOGLE TRENDS SAYS THAT CARLY FIORINA WAS THE MOST SEARCHED CANDIDATE NAME FOLLOWING THE 5:00 O’CLOCK DEBATE

Newsmax is reporting that “Billionaire Donald Trump is the winner of the Drudge Report Poll taken following the first Republican presidential debate.... Texas Sen. Ted Cruz came in second place in the online poll of more than 190,000 Drudge Report visitors, which was taken directly following the debate on Thursday night. The poll only included the candidates who participated in the Fox News debate with the top 10 candidates....” ( See “Trump Wins Drudge Report Debate Poll” by Courtney Coren, 8/7/15, Newsmax [http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/drudge-poll-donald-trump-wins/2015/08/07/id/666039/}).

The same Newsmax article reported that “Several political pundits said that former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina was the winner of the first debate, which included the seven Republican presidential candidates, who didn't make the top 10.... Google Trends said on Twitter than Fiorina was the ‘top searched [name] in more states than any other #GOPdebate early candidates.’...”

DRUDGE POLL NOT SCIENTIFIC & PROBABLY NOT RELIABLE
It should be noted that the Drudge Post-Debate Poll is not based on any accepted scientific polling model, and its results reflect only those that responded voluntarily. For example, Jeb Bush only registered 2.5% and Chris Christie – 1.4%. Those numbers are nowhere close to where those candidates will be polling during this week with traditional polling techniques.

  6. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “ANOTHER NON-SCIENTIFIC POLL” EDITION

WSJ & BREITBART NEWS CITE DRUDGE REPORT’S AND TIME MAGAZINE’S POST-DEBATE POLLS SAYING TRUMP WILL MAINTAIN HIS LEAD AFTER THE DEBATE

SAME BREITBART NEWS ARTICLE DISCUSSES CHARGES THAT FOX NEWS – AND – MEGYN KELLY IN PARTICULAR, PLANNED TO AMBUSH GOP FRONT-RUNNER DONALD TRUMP

This is how Breitbart News reported the story of Trump’s most likely post-debate impact: “A Wall Street Journal report suggests that despite critics’ opinions predicting GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s poll numbers would fall, two early – though unscientific – polls predict that may be wrong.... ‘Time Magazine found that Mr. Trump took 47% of nearly 55,000 votes. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) of Florida was in second place with just 10%. The Drudge Report’s poll found more than half of nearly 362,000 voters favored Mr. Trump, well above everyone else,” the Wall Street Journal noted.... ( See “TRUMP LOSES ZERO GROUND AFTER FOX’S UNFAIR, UNBALANCED ATTACK IN DEBATE” by Alex Swoyer, 8/7/15, Breitbart News [http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/08/07/trumps-poll-numbers-remain-on-top-despite-critics-debate-analysis/][with internal link to WaPo article that follows}; see also “Donald Trump Sets Off Post-Debate Debate: Will He Keep His Lead in GOP Race?” by Laura Meckler, 8/7/15, Wall Street Journal [http://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-sets-off-post-debate-debate-will-he-keep-his-lead-in-gop-race-1438951633?mod=rss_US_News]).

As indicated by the title of the Breitbart article mentioned above – some believe that Mr. Trump was singled-out for special negative treatment by the folks at Fox, who ran the debate. Here’s what Breitbart’s Alex Swoyer had to say about the flap involving what Fox is alleged to have done: “After Frank Luntz’s made his opinion on Trump’s performance suggesting ‘tonight his act wore thin,’ conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh stood up for Trump, and instead went after Fox News’ performance.... ‘I have never seen this kind of public backlash against Fox News personalities since the network launched in 1997,’ the radio legend stated.... Even Bloomberg Politics went after Fox News host Megyn Kelly for her questioning comparing it to ‘something Rachel Maddow would ask.’...”

Then Breitbart quoted from Bloomberg as follows: “A few hours before Thursday’s Fox News debate, a friend of Donald Trump’s confided to me that Trump was nervous. Not about the competition—he could handle them. No, Trump worried about Fox News, and in particular, debate moderator Megyn Kelly. She’d been hammering him all week on her show, and he was certain she was out to get him. He’d canceled a Fox News appearance on Monday night, the friend said, in order to avoid her. (Trump’s spokeswoman wouldn’t confirm or deny this.)... It turns out Trump was right. His toughest opponents Thursday night weren’t the candidates up on stage, but the Fox News moderators, who went right after him — none with more gusto than Kelly.... But Trump saw her coming a mile away and cut her off....”
