“All Republicans for Stamatis Lilikakis" Comes to Life — Something New In Local Brooklyn Politics aims right at somebody, as yet unknown — Certainly it is not Democrat Alec Brook-Krasny

“In breaking with the detrimental tradition of lack of unity within the Brooklyn GOP, the LaGuardia Republican Organization, an Independent Republican group in Kings County, officially endorsed Stamatis Lilikakis for the NYS Assembly in the 46 AD....”

What is behind this apparent realignment is still a mystery   —   The name and characterization of the group as "independent" is suggestive of a riddle   —   The real agenda of this group is something of an enigma

According to the heading of an Email from the LaGuardia Republican Club  received today by one of my closest operatives, “[THE] LAGUARDIA REPUBLICAN ORGANIZATION AND REPUBLICAN LEADER REGINA-POTTER ENDORSE LILIKAKIS FOR 46TH ASSEMBLY SEAT” ...

Truly, in spite of its apparent simplicity of content and style, such a release raises in miy mind many questions as to what this is all about.

To start off, the missive “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE” is dated “October 1, 2014,” but it was received by my operative by Email on October 4th (even by USPSmail with a stamp on it, it would have gotten there sooner). However, as the release proceeds things get even more murky  —   the first paragraph is as problematic as it is positively cryptic: “At the recently well-attended meeting of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization, Wednesday evening, the 46 Assembly District Republicans experienced a renewal of the Brooklyn GOP in their district. In breaking with the detrimental tradition of lack of unity within the Brooklyn GOP, the LaGuardia Republican Organization, an Independent Republican group in Kings County, officially endorsed Stamatis Lilikakis for the NYS Assembly in the 46 AD.”

What well-attended Wednesday meeting of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization (the accompanying photograph shows only three people) ?  And where and at exactly what time did this meeting take place ?  But, in most need of explanation is the paragraph’s most problematic and cryptic element, this very complex piece of phrasiology: “In breaking with the detrimental tradition of lack of unity within the Brooklyn GOP, the LaGuardia Republican Organization, an Independent Republican group in Kings County...”.  Now what, pray tell does all of that mean ?

The rest of the Email contains the usual encomiums back and forth that one might expect an endorsement of Stamatis Lilikakis to contain. It also contains two clues as to what might be going on. First, in the wording of the release is this “Stamatis Lilikakis was visibly pleased and excited at the recent turn of events....”  The “recent turn of events” of course being “ ...[t]he support of this independent Republican organization...”  Second, and most telling, is the complete absence of any mention of Marcus A. Nussbaum, the Male Republican Leader of the 46th A.D., and until recently a close associate of Lucretia Regina-Potter and Arnaldo Ferraro.

It looks like this “recent turn of events” is a tectonic shift of a few Republicans that had aligned with County Chairman Craig Eaton in 2013, but now sees itself as no longer aligned with “the detrimental tradition of lack of unity within the Brooklyn GOP...” preferring another stab at being “an Independent Republican group in Kings County...”

This whole endorsement of Mr. Lilikakis by the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization and/or Club probably falls into line with what was discussed at the rump meeting about two weeks ago that I said had been called by a leader of the 46th AD Republicans (See my 9/25/14 comment, “UPDATE & INQUIRY: THE ‘HELLO CASSIUS, WHERE IS BRUTUS’ EDITION – ‘SECRET’ SMALL MEETING OF GOP LEADERS -- RUMORED” to my 9/24/14 post “Three different calls — three different corners of the Brooklyn GOP — one sorry story”; and my 9/29/14 followup comment, “BACKFILL & FOLLOW-UP: THE ‘IDES OF MARCH’ EDITION –  AT LEAST SEVEN GOP ‘LEADERS’ WERE AT THE RUMP MEETING MENTIONED ABOVE” both on the same comments thread, below on this blog). In addition, to the “leaders” who were specifically invited, I have been informed by one of my most “insider” Baker Street Irregulars that it was Anthony Testaverde, who was the leader that crashed the meeting, but was allowed to stay.

Whether this signals any long term realignments among Marty Golden, Arnaldo Ferraro and Lucretia Regina-Potter remains to be seen.

As I have said many times before  —   Ah !  Good times, good times....

  1. Gale, your comments misses one very important fact....in fact, it is a very very very important fact. My memory tells me that the Brooklyn GOP worked hard to ensure that Lucretia and Marco became the leaders of the 46th. Then after Eaton won again, Arnaldo and Lucretia boycotted the Brooklyn GOP and all of its activities because Eaton would not change the name of Arnaldo's title to First Exec Vice Chair during the middle of a litigation trying to throw out the convention results.....you make it sound like the two of them are looking for unity and the Brooklyn GOP is not. I was at the meeting where Arnaldo acted like a spoiled child and walked out because he, the great one, wasnt geting what he wanted. It is Arnaldo who is the problem. He forgets that he was a one term Assemblymember decades and decades ago and accomplished nothing whule he was there. And WE are ALL tired of having to hear his diatribe everytime he opens his big mouth. Imagine if he were to become Chairman ever? I hear that people are saying that they would resign immediately......AND I heard there was no such meeting...there were two people in the room. Marcus even got smart and bolted from these crazies....They only do what serves their own interest. Maybe Lilikaksi made a donation to their club of two?

  2. RESPONSE: THE "FAIR AND BALANCED" EDITION

    To; "Anonymous... 2:13" above

    Fair enough...

    Two questions:
First, which meeting did not happen; and what makes you think so ?

Second, does any of what happened indicate to you that the LaGuardia Organization/Club, whatever, has generally realigned with the Golden folks ?

  4. That is funny...Arnaldo and Lucretia had a meeting of two and then made a big decison, to endorse the guy who beat her.....that is not funny, it is hysterical.

  5. Mr. Massey, tell your Republican neanderthals that the use of “hysterical” as pejorative terminology implies negative connotations about women’s thinking or control of their emotions; or as they used it in a comment above, to mean something uproariously funny.

It is all the more offensive, when it is obviously being directly applied to one of the few strong female insiders among Brooklyn Republicans, Lucretia Regina-Potter.

What is it exactly that makes so many Republicans want make war on women and femininity, even one of their own, that they so quickly resort to terms like “hysterical” in a discussion where such a reference clearly shows that the person making the comment has very little on the ball or some other testicular problems.

Because there are more women voters than men, why not use the term “testicular” when you want to refer to something that is uproariously funny. Like this “....that is not funny, it is testicular.” That way when people rightly take offense, it will be fewer of them.

  8. To Mr. Annoying at 8:32 PM:

Your inarticulate comment personifies all that is wrong with the Brooklyn Republican Party and to a large extent the National GOP. It is patronizing and drenched in subtle misogyny and has no place on this blog. Mr. Massey's blog is not some sort of stag party where your diatribes are permitted. And I expect he will point that out to you.

Why am I thinking that you are one of those BYRs (Brooklyn Young Republicans) who were the foot soldiers in Joe Hynes' Bay Ridge hate campaign last year? Remember? It was just about this time last year when Marty Golden and Gerry with a G Kasser called on you to assist and you tripped over yourselves wanting to do anything for them you could even if it meant engaging in the worst fear-mongering our local political establishment has ever witnessed. When RG and his minions are called by Senator Golden, well, they will go to the ends of the earth for him - even if it means compromising their own integrity and party values.

As for your reference to that particular part of the male anatomy, I am not sure you have any.

To: "BSI 'But we do it in four inch heels and backwards' Women's Equality Division"

    Ain't we touchy this morning.

My guess is you don't do it at all, but if you did it in four inch heels and backwards you'd be welcome both by the BYRs and at a few stag party's I been to.

I thought that imitation was the best form of flattery, because for weeks or longer you have been imitating some kind of anti-corruption, anti-Hynes, pro-feminist, pro-Cathlic, pro-Democrat, pro-Islamic crusader. In reality I think that you are the off-spring of a unicorn and a mermaid. You know, something that isn't fish or fowl or even real.

I know RG and Jerry "with a J" Kassar. RG stands for "Real Guy", as in stands up when it counts for God and country, and for the Brooklyn GOP. And Jerry Kassar does more stuff for his church and party every day than you probably do in a month of Sundays.

  10. Dear Mr. Annoying:

The reference to High Heels and Backwards was an allusion to former Texas Governor Ann Richards brilliant 1988 keynote address at the Democratic Convention in which she excoriated George Bush senior. It is not a carnal reference at all. Ands I hope Mr. Massey scolds you for such thoughts.

  11. IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: THE “LAGUARDIA ORGANIZATION’S ENDORSEMENT ‘RELEASE’ ” EDITION

    >>>> NOTE: THE SAME RELEASE, ALSO DATED OCTOBER 4, 2014, APPEARED ON THE PERSONAL WEB PAGE OF LUCRETIA REGINA-POTTER<<<<

WAS THE STAMATIS LILIKAKIS ENDORSEMENT MEETING THE SECOND SECRET MEETING HELD BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE 46th A.D. FIORELLO LAGUARDIA ORGANIZATION IN LESS THAN A MONTH ?

IS THE LAGUARDIA ORGANIZATION OR CLUB ADOPTING A NEW POLICY OF SECRET MEETINGS ?

    WHAT’S UP WITH 46th A.D. EXECUTIVE MEMBER MARCUS A. NUSSBAUM ?

Something isn’t adding up with the “Release” from the “Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization.” The “Release” says that “At the recently well-attended meeting of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization, Wednesday evening, the 46 Assembly District Republicans experienced a renewal of the Brooklyn GOP in their district.... the LaGuardia Republican Organization, an Independent Republican group in Kings County, officially endorsed Stamatis Lilikakis for the NYS Assembly in the 46 AD.”

That just doesn’t square with anything else that the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization or Club has put out there to the public, to the Republican County Committee Members in the 46th A.D. or to the “membership” of Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization or Club to see.

The “Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization.” web page says this:
“MEETINGS *** Executive Committee meets the second Tuesday of the month at 8 PM. Please call 718-256-4414 for meeting location. *** Regular meetings of the club are held the last Thursday of the month at 8 PM. Please call 718-256-4414 for meeting location.” Maybe even more important than that, there is no meeting notice or “Announcement” for any meeting on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 anywhere on the site.

Was the “... recently well-attended meeting of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization, [last] Wednesday evening” actually another secret meeting called by the leaders of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization only for select invited individuals ?

Has the “Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization” changed its policy to one of announcing the results of its secret meetings along with again changing its self-characterization from being a “Regular Republican Organization” (which is still posted on its website) to being an “Independent Republican group in Kings County.”

Btw, what has happened to the Republican State Committeeman from the 46th A.D. Marcus Nussbaum, whose name had appeared on the petitions distributed by the “Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization” as their candidate for the NYS Assembly in 2014. His name appeared nowhere in the “Release” ? Is he also endorsing Stamatis Lilikakis for the NYS Assembly in the 46 AD ?

Maybe, the next “Release” from the “Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Organization” can clear up some of these important issues.

  12. Gale,

Aren't you a member of the LaGuardia Club? Aren't you actually on the board??

    What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Mr. Massey belonging to an organization bearing the name "LaGuardia"? We'd be more likely to see a Prod become the Pope of Rome before that happened. Based on the comments he permits un-moderated on this blog, I highly suggest Mr. Massey has never even heard of The Little Flower - neither Therese of Lisieux nor Fiorello of New York.

  14. STATEMENT: THE "NOW YOU SEE ME -- NOW YOU DON'T" EDITION

I want everybody to know that Galwyn Massey is not affiliated with any political organization.

However, he does number among his "friends" and "Baker Street Irregulars" many members of various Republican organizations. At least one of them does fit the description that was given in the comment above, vis a vis the LaGuardia Club.

When you ask "What gives ?"; my friend is wondering the exact same thing. That's one of the reasons I wrote my comment above, to help relieve some of my friend's perplexity.

  17. RESPONSE: THE "I'VE NEVER BEEN THERE" EDITION

I have been on the block, near the corner of Argyle and Albemarle, across the street in front of 144-150 Argyle Road and around the neighborhood, including at Stratford Road and Turner Place, and a few other nearby places that could have been anywhere on earth for all the difference it makes, because there was a vehicle involved.
