First the real Grimm-Scotto post-SOTU Rotunda Threat — Then Melissa McCarthy as an Unhinged Congresswoman caught making threats and doing mayhem on camera after camera after camera — A new Saturday Night Live classic
How far will SNL go to do a sendup of Congressman Grimm ? See for yourself (“Melissa McCarthy’s Unhinged SNL Congresswoman Is Way Worse Than Michael Grimm” by Tommy Christopher, 2/1/14, Mediaite [http://www.mediaite.com/tv/melissa-mccarthys-unhinged-delaware-congresswoman-is-way-worse-than-michael-grimm-on-snl/]; with link to SNL skit)
Grimm is now a household name.
ReplyDeleteI dont think any of this hurts him. Maybe it helps.

PRIMARY CHALLENGE MICHAEL GRIMM CONTAINS COMPREHENSIVE LINKS AND DOWNLOADS ABOUT THE GRIMM-SCOTTO BROUHAHA
This is a facebook site that is rich in download material and general buzz about Congressman Grimm.... It’s so insightful that it had a few entries about Congressman Grimm’s appearance at the Brooklyn Young Republican Club last week.
PRIMARY CHALLENGE MICHAEL GRIMM even did a link to some of this blog’s earlier coverage of the confrontation of Grimm in the bar area of the Ceol Pub and the Alvarez counter-confrontation at the same spot – all immediately adjacent to the Brooklyn Young Republican Meeting in the backroom at Ceol on Sunday, January 26th.
So back atcha PRIMARY CHALLENGE MICHAEL GRIMM !
From a story about a 2010 fundraising investigation to a national story for a day or two to a national joke of the week. Maybe it helps.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see.
Look how far Saturday Live had to go to send up the real Grimm story. Some of the scenes that followed with the congressman Melissa McCarthy character were like things that happened to Grimm at other times like threatening somebody with a gun.
ReplyDeleteIt has been said that when the cops finally catch a robber or drug dealer he most likely has committed the same offense dozens or more times without being caught.
ReplyDeleteOne can only imagine how many times Congressman Michael Grimm and/or his "body man" Marc Alvarez have threatened, intimidated, harassed, menaced, or physically assaulted people before being "caught" on camera.
It looks like Phillip Seymour Hoffman came to Grimm's rescue
ReplyDeleteGrimm & Christie stories are now joined as national stories with bullying being the theme.
ReplyDeleteChristie is going down for the count, and Grimm . . .
UPDATE: THE “EVEN LOOKING AT IT A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY, IT STILL LOOKS FAMILIAR” EDITION
ReplyDelete"Scandal seems to be a prerequisite for any politician [ ] these days. If they're not making empty threats to break reporters in half, they're being accused of having kids in steamy affairs” ( See “Stasi: Politicians like Rep. Michael Grimm, Melinda Katz are like former child stars with cycle of bad behavior” by Linda Stasi, 2/2/14, NY Daily News [http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/stasi-politicians-rep-michael-grimm-child-stars-article-1.1599347]). “Take Rep. Michael Grimm, the Republican congressman who single-handedly made the Democratic president’s State of the Union address the most talked about political event of the year. *** Not the speech itself — only three people stayed awake for that. But tens of millions were glued to the post-game show when Grimm threatened to clock, sock and break NY1 reporter Michael Scotto ‘in half … like a boy’ who wasn’t ‘man enough.’ *** That was after threatening to throw him ‘off the f---ing balcony.’ Really Grimm? No pol’s gotten away with the death-by-balcony move since Gene Hackman in ‘No Way Out.’ ... Scotto won the fight without [lifting] a finger, and Grimm’s in the fight of his life to save his sorry ass. *** Ironically, it was the Republican machine that forced Vito Fossella from the seat Grimm now holds because Fossella (who they might want back) got nailed for DUI and fathering a child out of wedlock. Quaint, considering those are now prerequisites in politics.”
UPDATE: THE “TELL ME SOMETHING I DIDN’T KNOW” EDITION
ReplyDeleteSNL’S LORNE MICHAELS FESSES-UP THAT “IT’S EASIER...” TO POKE FUN AT REPUBLICANS THAN DEMOCRATS — BUT HIS REASONING IS A LITTLE SKEWED
The Weekly Standard reports that in an interview with something called Vulture.com, SNL producer Lorne Michaels said that when it comes political humor on Saturday Night Live, “Republicans are easier for us than Democrats.... Democrats tend to take it personally; Republicans think it’s funny.” The Michaels’ comments were in response to the question, “Are there any basic rules for what works and what doesn’t politically? (See “SNL Producer: 'Republicans Are Easier for Us than Democrats' ” by Daniel Halper, 2/3/14, The Weekly Standard/ The Blog [http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/snl-producer-republicans-are-easier-us-democrats_776076.html]). However, Lorne Michaels didn’t ever explain why Democrats’ taking political humor aimed at them more personally makes it any less funny. I suspect that it only means he gets more calls from the bigs at NBC whenever it looks like SNL is going after the Dems or their sacred cows.
An interesting nuance of the Weekly Standard’s coverage of the Lorne Michaels article was the inclusion of a video link to this week’s SNL-Melissa McCarthy-“Sheila Kelly...” skit that was a take-off on Congressman Grimm’s confrontation with NY 1's Michael Scotto, because that skit wasn’t mentioned in the Michaels “conversation” at all (See “In Conversation: Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels” by Lane Brown, 2/2/14, Vulture [http://www.vulture.com/2014/01/lorne-michaels-on-tonight-show-snl.html]; The conversation with Lorne Michaels that appeared on the Vulture.com blog had been condensed and edited from two interviews conducted on January 16th and 23rd and appears in the New York Magazine of February 10, 2014).
