WAIT A MINUTE ! ! ! Is New York Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long in the weeds pulling strings to screw NJ Governor Chris Christie ?

Wasn't the Port Authority's Pat Foye one of NYS Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long's right-hand and big time POWER GUYS back in the Pataki days ?  Maybe some things really haven't changed that much since then ?  Pataki-Cuomo,  Cuomo-Pataki  --  Eh !

Pat Foye certainly was a Mike Long guy back in the Pataki days when he was on the NYS Conservative Party Executive Board and made an executive with LIPA.....   ( See e.g. "Pataki's Favorite Conservatives-- Mike Long's party is feasting at the state trough" by  Wayne Barrett, 10/27/98, The Village Voice [http://www.villagevoice.com/1998-10-27/news/pataki-s-favorite-conservatives/2/]).

But, would a NYS Conservative Party Chairman like Mike Long have any possible reason to screw around with a New Jersey Republican Governor like Chris Christie ?  Does Mike still have any interests that involve either the NY/NJ PA or does he have his beak wet in other dealings with New Jersey ?

Do you think it could have anything to do with 2016 ?

Just askin'....

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “NAGGING THOUGHT” EDITION    5:56 PM, 1/11/14

This post is the direct result of my computer search that resulted in the comment  “Galewyn Massey  –  January 11, 2014 at 7:36 AM  – –   UPDATE: THE “IS PAT FOYE SOMEBODY’S ENFORCER ?” EDITION” to my prior post below, “Friday, January 10, 2014  – ‘Will “Bridgegate” turn into “Bridgetgate” for “family-man” Governor Christie ?’ ”

The repeated mention of “Pat Foye” throughout the narrative kept sounding a quiet alarm. So whenever I saw “Pat Foye” I started to think “Mike Long.”

  1. Long is a Cuomo guy.
look to who benefits from the Pa scandal.
The same people that are doing the e mail drops.

    1. The E-mail drops are from NJ Legislative subpoenas. However, everybody knew what was there to be found.

It's all as choreographed, stylized and dramatic as a kabuki dance performance with painted on happy and sad faces. The only question in this drama is does this end with Christie having to commit seppuku or will it be some shrimp .

If it's the latter it will be called "snuff prawn."

  2. BACKFILL: THE “MAYBE IT’S A DIFFERENT ‘PATRICK J. FOYE’ ” EDITION

Prior to becoming the PA NY/NJ Executive Director, Patrick J. Foye was Governor Cuomo's Deputy Secretary of Economic Development, a role in which he managed the New York State's initiatives for economic recovery, investment, and job creation, and oversaw the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC). Previously, Mr. Foye had been Deputy County Executive for Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano. Mr. Foye has also served as a board member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), representing Nassau County. Mr. Foye was one of only two MTA board members who in 2010 voted against fare increases- the third in three years. Prior to working for Nassau County, Mr. Foye was the downstate chief of ESDC for former Governor Eliot Spitzer as well as Vice Chairman of the Long Island Power Authority. Mr. Foye was a partner at Skadden Arps and practiced law in New York, Brussels, Budapest, and Moscow and was a senior member of the management team of a S&P 500 REIT for six years. Mr. Foye also served as President and CEO of the United Way of Long Island for three years.
(See Governor Cuomo Press Release“Governor Cuomo Puts Forth Port Authority Appointments and Reorganization Plans”, 10/19/11 [http://www.governor.ny.gov/press/10192011PortAuthorityAppointments]).

Is it a little funny that there is no mention whatsoever of the New York State Conservative Party or its State Chairman Mike Long in the press release by Governor Cuomo’s office ? Nah ! That’s perfectly understandable given the public images and general reputations of those two men, as well as their completely different levels of relationship with/to Pat Foye.

Is there a chance that the current the PA NY/NJ Executive Director is a different Pat Foye than the one that Mike Long hooked up with Governor Pataki back in the 90s ? Nah ! Not a chance. ( I only wonder if he likes Jerry Kassar any better now than he did back in the good old early Pataki days ..... maybe I’ll call ykw and see if he’s spoken to Pat Foye lately.)

  3. The Saturday edition of WSJ gives a detailed time line on e mails, and Foye is the Knight in shining armor. The end of this will result in Cuomo consolidating his power in PA.

  4. Good digging Gale.

Foye is the Deep Throat. I wonder if Christie figured it out.

  5. BACKFILL: A LITTLE MORE OF THIS 'N' THAT

It is somewhat interesting that some Republican consultants from the New York side if the GW Bridge are not shy about piling on Governor Christie at this juncture. Very notable among that lot is E. O’Brien-Murray. Commenting to the WSJ about Christie's GW Bridge problems, Mr. Obrien-Murray was quoted as follows: "This is now part of the narrative, and it builds on to what is already there," said O'Brien Murray, a New York-based Republican campaign adviser. "This does not show great leadership." (See “Bridge-Spat Emails Pose Questions For Christie” by Ted Mann and Heather Haddon, 1/9/14, Wall Street Journal [http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303393804579308331794186904]).
Mr. Obrien-Murray has shown some affiliation with the Nassau Republican Dean Skelos, co-leader of the NY State Senate; and O"Brien-Murray is also well known in Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party circles.

  6. UPDATE: THE MOST RECENT "AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EDITION"

NASSAU COUNTY REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN PETER KING IS ANOTHER PERSON WHO DIRECTLY BENEFITS FROM PAT FOYE'S BULLDOG PURSUIT OF WHO/WHAT WAS BEHIND THE GW BRIDGE LANE CLOSURES LAST YEAR

To the extent Peter King might actually be pursuing any sort of national ambitions -- a presidential nomination or maybe something a little lower on the totem pole -- Governor Christie's recent discomfiture over stupid e-mails and lying staff is nothing but a win-win-win for the Nassau County Republican-Conservative.

There are myriad points of contact and interaction between Peter King, Mike Long and Pat Foye over the years -- some of it involving Republican-Conservative politics, some of it involving the workings of government, and like this recent flap involving Governor Christie, some of it involving both.

  7. UPDATE: THE “PATRICK J. FOYE AS ‘JOHN WILKES BOOTH’” EDITION

PAT FOYE’S SEPTEMBER 13th E-MAIL WAS THE MOST DIRECT POLITICAL INTERVENTION IN PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS BY AN APPARENT OUTSIDER SINCE JOHN WILKES BOOTH STEPPED INTO THE PRESIDENTIAL BOX AT FORD”S THEATER ON APRIL 14th 1865

The folks at Newsday thought that Pat Foye’s E-mail was a news item all by itself – unvarnished
(See “PA chief Patrick Foye's email on George Washington Bridge closures” republished e-mail by Patrick J. Foye, 1/10/14, Newsday [http://www.newsday.com/news/region-state/pa-chief-patrick-foye-s-email-on-george-washington-bridge-closures-1.6774938]). What this E-mail shows is that Mr. Foye had a pretty good idea about what was going on at the GW Bridge and why – while it is happening.

Foye's 9/13/13 E-memo has “GOTCHA !” written all over it. The who, what and why of Pat Foye’s making this move on September 13th is something that needs to be investigated, just as much as anything that Christie might have done before or since.

I also wonder if Foye has a papal connection, if there are any Jesuits in his woodpile and if he might know anybody named Surratt.

  9. BACKFILL: THE “BITS ’N’ PIECES” EDITION

According to a something called StreetBlog.Org, “Foye is a Republican who also worked with Democrat Eliot Spitzer as downstate chairman of the Empire State Development Corporation. [quoting a 2008 article in the NY Observer] ‘Mr. Foye, once a member of the Conservative Party and a Republican donor, was brought in by Mr. Spitzer during his campaign. An acquaintance of both Mr. Spitzer and his wife Silda from his days at [law firm] Skadden Arps, Mr. Foye joined the governor in his rhetoric of parsimony with state dollars, keeping subsidy amounts to a minimum.’ (See “Cuomo Names Patrick Foye to Head Port Authority” by Brad Aaron, 10/19/11, StreetsBlog.Org [http://www.streetsblog.org/2011/10/19/cuomo-names-patrick-foye-to-head-port-authority/]; see also “Pat Foye, New York Development Chief, Resigns” by Eliot Brown, 3/17/08 [http://observer.com/2008/03/pat-foye-new-york-development-chief-resigns/]).

According to another article in the NY Observer, “Patrick J. Foye [was] Governor Eliot Spitzer’s pick to co-chair the Empire State Development Corporation, the state economic development agency. Mr. Foye, a Long Islander who once ran in far more conservative circles.... It was in the 1990’s when he was active in the Conservative Party and became president of the Nassau County Taxpayers Committee. He ended up, thanks to Governor Pataki, as deputy chairman of the Long Island Power Authority. Five or six years ago, Mr. Foye said, he dropped his affiliation to the Conservative Party. ‘No political party represented my views’.... [also saying] ‘My political views, I don’t think much matter’....” (See “Easy Does It for Pat Foye” by Matthew Schuerman 8/14/07, NY Observer [http://observer.com/2007/08/easy-does-it-for-pat-foye/]). One of the things that Pat “Easy Does It” Foye was noted for at ESDC was, in spite of sidetracking and derailing some other key development projects, he maintained that agency’s practices and policies with respect to Forest City-Rattner and the development of the Atlantic City Yards in Brooklyn – the most important aspect of which was the use of ESDC’s powers of condemnation through eminent domain.

    1. Foye's been with the Conservatives, Long, Pataki, Spitzer, the Nassau Republicans, Mangano, Cuomo, but but he is not a friend of Chris Christie, got it!

    2. Not quite.... You have the lineup about right, but it's more than Foye's being "not a friend of Chris Christie"....

Patrick J. Foye used his position as NY's top operating guy at the NY/NJ PA to intervene in the act of the GW Bridge lane closures AND make an immediate indelible record of the event along with his implied CONCLUSIONS that what was really going on with the closures was something ulterior and probably illegal. How and why he reached those conclusions immediately as the event was ongoing, but not yet completely unraveled, is yet to be determined. --- It's interesting that some of Christie's peoples' E-mails to Foye sound like they were expecting him to keep a lid on things, which he clearly wasn't doing.

btw, if there is a "not a friend of ..." category among the people Foye has dealt with, it also seemed to include Governor David A. Paterson, once he succeeded Eliot Spitzer....
