Even though the NYS Conservative Party might well be the tail that wags the Republican dog in New York, Republicans who think they need go to the Conservative Party’s January event called CPPAC are little better off than dogs chasing their own tails
In less than three weeks a bunch of coyotes will be howling at the moon at something called the 47th Annual CPPAC at the Holiday Turf Inn on Wolf Road in Albany, New York (See “CPPAC: Living up to the Challenge” January 2014, The NY Conservative: Volume 20, Issue 1 [http://www.cpnys.org/sites/cpnys.org/files/CPNYS_2014_Newsletter.pdf]). A look at the roster of the speakers for CPPAC shows that for the New York State Conservative Party looking forward is no different than looking through a lot of albums about days gone by.
You're only a real Republican if you can say this: "The NYS Conservative Party needs a Republican Party, but the NYS Republican Party doesn’t need a Conservative Party...." — AND KNOW THAT IT'S TRUE.
What kind of conservatives are these NYS Conservative Party types?
ReplyDeleteCash and carry.
ReplyDeleteOnly 16 states allow candidates to run on more than one party line. Of course NYS is one of those 16 that let the tail wag the dog.
ReplyDeleteIts a recipe for the shakedown.
Liberal party leader Ray Harding plead guilty (but did little time) because his son had BS job in Guiliani administration.
Mike could get life without parole.
Long gets more from Andrew Cuomo than he did from Pataki.
ReplyDeleteIts the Con-servative way
This has to be hyperbole ....
DeleteSomebody as significant as Donald Trump thought Cons. Pty. Chmn. Mike Long was important enough that he saw him about running for Governor before arranging to see Cox, the Republican Chairman.
ReplyDeleteWhat was really talked about at that meeting ? Could it have been mostly about how much $$,$$$,$$$ "The Donald" was ready to spend to be Governor ? If it wasn't at least somewhat about the $$$$$.... then it wasn't a very serious conversation.
DeleteAnd, if it were a serious conversation, then I'd bet somewhere in that conversation somebody also mentioned something about what it might take to get a person's beak wet.... or whatever phrase one of the participants might use to communicate that thought.
Down with the Wilson-Pakula!
ReplyDeleteMalcom Wilson and the Pakula guy I think are already down
ReplyDeleteIs the "Wilson" in Wilson-Pakula really the longest serving Lieutenant Governor and least known Governor in New York State history ?
DeleteYeah its that Wilson.
ReplyDeleteTrivia question: When Malcom Wilson ran for Governor against Hugh Carey in 1974 who was his running mate?
Ralph Casso. He was the Nassau County Executive.
ReplyDeleteDid you misspell "Caso" to show you didn't look it up on Wiki-cheat ?
DeleteWilson and Caso were mid-to-late 20th Century Republicans (although Wilson was first elected to the NYS Assembly at the very beginning of WW II). Neither survived the 20th Century (2000 still being in the 20th Century). Their New York and their America didn't survive the 20th Century either.
Malcolm Wilson was a middle of the road Republican. Every time Wilson ran without the NYS Conservative Party line, he WON. In 1974, the one time he ran ran with the support of the Conservative Party, Malcolm Wilson LOST; the very same year Jacob Javits ran on the Republican line without Conservative Party support and WON, which pretty soundly proves that the Conservative Party endorsement isn't necessary for a Republican to win in New York State. Quite the contrary, most of the time Republican candidates run on the New York State Conservative Party line, they LOSE. There are less than a handful of exceptions in statewide races and no exceptions in City-wide races.
Bad interpretation of facts Gale.
ReplyDeleteJavits won because he had another line, column D, The Liberal party. If Ramsey Clark had the Liberal line he would have won.
When Javits was beat in 1980 in Republican primary by Al D'Amato, Javits continued to campaign in election on Liberal line. He got 11% of the vote.
In 1980, Javits was in declining health, and most people knew he was at death's door.
DeleteHis staying active in the race was a gift to the Republican Party; otherwise Liz Holtzman would have become U.S. Senator instead of Al D'Amato.
The point missing from the genius above is nobody has ever gotten elected to any statewide office since 1970 without another line.
ReplyDeleteIf the Republicans stop playing ball with the conservatives the republicans lose.
End of story.
You are vague in your sarcasm; there are just too many geniuses, who expressed themselves above, for your remark to have any bight whatsoever. Be that as it may.
DeleteFirst, there are other "third party lines" that would probably better serve the GOP than their current subservient alliance with the NYS Conservative Party.
Second, and probably more important, as to your conclusory statement, "If the Republicans stop playing ball with the conservatives the republicans lose. *** End of story. " ASSUMING FOR ARGUMENT ONLY that you are partially correct, and the proposition that the Republicans not playing ball with the NYS Conservative Party means the Republicans will lose, that isn't the "End of [the] story. " You seem to have completely overlooked the fact that with decades of the Republicans playing ball with the NYS Conservatives, they have lost and continue to lose anyway.
Have you looked at the party that actually has a stranglehold on all the statewide and citywide offices, has a clear majority in both chambers of the New York State Legislature, a runaway supermajority in the City Council and is contesting control in the whole rest of the state -- that party certainly doesn't need any alliance with the NYS Conservative Party.
WAKE UP !
This year the conservative party will become the first major political party.
ReplyDeleteIt will have column A
Ar-hardy-har-har-hah-rrnghk-rrnghk-rrnghk-ho-ho-hee-hee-hee---
DeleteThat's a good one!
How is it that this CPPAC that is being held in some kind of local Holiday Inn hasn’t been held up to ridicule as an obvious attempt to knockoff on the real CPAC * 2014, the Conservative Political Action Conference, the annual convention that is an organized project of The American Conservative Union.
ReplyDeleteThis year’s CPAC is being held from March 5-8 in the Washington, D.C. area, slightly south of the nations capital at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745.
