Russell Gallo calls for Republican Party Primary against State Senator Martin Golden on Brooklyn GOP [Blog] Radio Program
Gallo says he is strongly considering a race in 2014 and suggests that he expects to run against Golden himself — BUT — specifically, Gallo mentioned that anybody who thinks they can run a stronger Republican primary race against Golden with their own substantial resources should contact Brooklyn GOP Radio — and then Gallo and Company might add their own significant resources to that effort instead
Last night on a Brooklyn GOP Radio program that featured Lt .Col. Steve Russell, the man who led the raid that captured Saddam Hussein; Russell Gallo, a U.S. Army Sergeant who once served along side Colonel Russel’s unit, announced that there would be a GOP primary against State Senator Martin Golden in 2014 ( See “Lt. Col. Steve Russell & The 10th Anniversary That ‘We Got Him!’.” Brooklyn GOP [Blog] Radio [http://www.blogtalkradio.com/brooklyngopradio/2013/12/20/lt-col-steve-russell-the-10th-anniversary-that-we-got-him]).
Rather than go through Russell Gallo’s oral brief against State Senator Martin Golden ( R-C-I ), something that Gallo promised would be well publicized throughout the 22nd State Senate District in due course, I’ll try to interpret what Mr. Gallo did and didn’t say at the very end of last night’s show.
With less than five minutes left in the program, Gallo pressed co-host Gene Berardelli to get things “back local.” I expected that there was going to be more chatter about the multiple GOP holiday parties, but instead Russ Gallo launched into an impassioned speech about how important Republican primaries are in keeping GOP candidates really “conservative with a small ‘c’.” Initially, it almost sounded like Gallo was talking up a Republican primary against Michael Grimm, something that Gallo has mentioned to me many times lately, and maybe Gallo did indicate a little leaning in that direction again last night. However, Gallo executed a clean pivot and turned his full frontal assault onto the sole Brooklyn-only elected Republican Marty Golden. Gallo clearly stated that he was strongly considering getting into a primary fight against Golden.
One thing alone is holding Gallo back, that there might be another strong conservative Republican out there who can bring his or her own additional personal resources of funds and /or manpower into the race against Golden. If such a candidate were to come forward, Gallo indicated that he might well join forces and support such a run; and anybody that might be so inclined should contact Gallo through the Brooklyn GOP Radio – Official Blog.
Although last night’s public announcement had not been talked about as recently as the Brooklyn GOP Holiday Party and the YRs’ after-party on Wednesday night, many of the same topics had been brought up by Gallo with various others at those gatherings – so the content of Gallo’s announcement was no surprise. Only his timing, venue, and his call for all similarly-interested “candidates” to come forward added a bit of the new and unknown into the mix.
What do you or Gallo mean by significant or substantial resources
ReplyDeleteI meant "significant" and "substantial" to have the meanings that they would have in normal and every day usage.
DeleteAs for Russell Gallo, I don't specifically remember his using either word. However, in the context of the conversations he had about himself and other possible candidates for the state senate, when Gallo did refer to the "resources" that a candidate could bring into the race, it was clear that he meant significant and/or substantial resources.
BACKFILL: THE “THAT’S THE REST OF THE STORY” EDITION
ReplyDeleteMaybe, I underplayed some of what Russell Gallo said on his Brooklyn GOP Radio Show last night. In particular, Gallo mentioned that Congressman Michael Grimm came in fifth (5th) among New York Republican members of congress in a recent Heritage survey of his votes on conservative issues, in which Grimm did terribly with a 29% score. No doubt, Gallo was referring to the ratings of the PAC Heritage Action for America (See “Scorecard” by Heritage Action for America, last updated 12/14/13 [http://heritageactionscorecard.com/votes/vote/h286-2013]). Russell Gallo used this data to argue that Congressman Grimm needed to be primaried, because Republican Party Primaries are the best way to keep the GOP and its officeholders conservative with a small “c”.
Ratings like these also demonstrate the problematic nature of what is called the “Conservative Party” in New York State and particularly its local variant here in Brooklyn. This week Jerry Kassar, the Brooklyn Conservative Party Chairman, said the following in his local newspaper column, “With Congressional nominating petitions presently scheduled for early March, we will soon see if Recchia makes the cut. Grimm, of course, will most certainly be the Republican and Conservative Parties’ candidate....” Now, this was just one item among many in a puff piece about Grimm (See “COMMON SENSE: Round One” by Jerry Kassar, 12/17/13, Home Reporter/ Spectator News [http://www.homereporternews.com/news/opinion/common-sense-round-one/article_85e18e6a-6767-11e3-afa4-001a4bcf887a.html]). All of it begs the questions as to whether Grimm is any kind of conservative at all; and whether the Kings County Conservative leader should be doing any kind puff pieces about Congressman Grimm, instead of hammering him with brickbats.
With any insurgency strength in numbers matter.
ReplyDeleteIf your going to pull a Joey Gallo than dont do it alone, or, you'll wind up like Joey Gallo. It should be a slate against Golden, Grimm, and Maliotakis, with a opportunity to write in candidate on Conservative line.
As far as I know, Russell G. is looking to be part of a bigger Brooklyn GOP slate. But, for what you're talking about, you must think Gallo, together with whomever he might line up, have as many foot soldiers as Stalin's Russian Army.
DeleteLove Russell. Wrong race for him. Only helps Marty.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Marty will surprise you and step aside or let John Quaglione run in his place.
ReplyDeleteMade you laugh.
John "39%" Quaglione sounds like a real threat.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice young man.
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible idea for him.
Russell Gallo has many skeletons in his closet. I'm sure if he runs they will see the light of day.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Martys skeletons trump whatever is in gallos closet. I guess the voters will get to decide.
DeleteWith rare exceptions of somethings that are big and newsworthy, most skeletons are more annoying and/or embarrassing than meaningful political issues that move votes.
DeleteI heard Genuardis is running again.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: THE "THE MORE - THE MERRIER" EDITION
ReplyDeleteThere is what appears to be a snarky new political blog out there brought to you by none other than the "Ole Sarge" himself, Russell Gallo, the Kings County Republican Party Secretary., and a key player in the GOP blog wars over the last few years. The new blog is called "THE GOLDEN WATCHER" so I guess we can all seen where it's headed right from the get-go (See "Coming Soon" (presumably) by Russell Gallo, 12/22/13, THE GOLDEN WATCHER - Black Ops Command Center - WHAT MARTY DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE [http://thegoldenwatcher.blogspot.com/]).
This could be very interesting.
