Call him “Mr. Holiday Marty” — Doing the Meet and Greet big time, up front and in your face — As gregarious as a young Santa Claus might be if he were running an open house at the North Pole; or even more like Bing Crosby doing his Christmas gig at the original “Holiday Inn”
The people were packed in early at the Bay Ridge Manor last night, and they just kept coming. Marty had put out the word – this is a holiday festivity that you don’t want to miss – and most of the key people didn’t. The State Senator with the family in the party business pulled out all the stops (except for the absence of live music – but there really was no room for a band or even a pro DJ) and made it worth while for everybody. The food was good, varied and plentiful — abundanza ! — with plenty of adult beverages from a fully-stocked and well-manned bar.
The large crowd was a mix of politicos, business people and just plain folks; with an odd smattering of Biker-veterans in their leathers and many of the “favored” and at least one of the “fired” from the BOE. The crowd even showed some of the ethnic diversity of the State Senator’s district as well as Brooklyn as a whole. Everybody was happy and happy to be there.
Marty Golden was in his element. Make no mistake; candidate for re-election Marty Golden was putting down a 2014 marker with his 2013 holiday party — “Go ahead, guys, try and match this.”
I hear that he forced everyone at that party to go, otherwise they would lose their jobs at the BOE or at his office. This is quite similar to what Mr. Golden did in the past, is it not? And I think a lot will agree that anyone will take free food and drink - will those people vote for Marty? PROBABLY NOT!
ReplyDeleteI was at the party along with a bunch of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club, several GOP district leaders and other executive members, Bay Ridge Merchants, Gerritsen Beach Civic and Fire Volunteers, a Windsor Terrace contingent including a former district leader, some clergy members and on and on --- not just staff and BOE types.
DeleteIt was a big and impressive party --- no more and certainly no less than that....
Yes, he owns the Bay Ridge Manor and has the luxury of throwing an event for little to no cost. But by no means does throwing a holiday party qualify him as an established Senator. He has done too much bad in the last year to make up for. Sure hope someone will challenge him in 2014 and get him out of office - we need some change and this old man has got to go if we want the Republican Party to thrive in Brooklyn going forward.
ReplyDeleteThis certainly was not "... an event for little to no cost...." This will show up in the filings.... Just wait and see...
DeleteGolden's campaign pays the Manor lots of $ and then Golden's family members contribute lots of $ into Golden's campaign.
DeleteRound and round we go.
This will all come to light in 2014. That's my resolution.
That's the problem with Marty: he thinks like a 1940s pol. Giving seniors a free TV guarantees their vote. Throwing banquets and giving people a free meal guarantees their loyalty.
ReplyDeleteWake the fuck up, Senator. You're in the 21st century now, whether you like it or not.
90% of the people there were out of district and/or not republican. Sorry Marty. Not gonna help in the primary...
ReplyDeletePlus free meals will not trump your stance on issues real republicans hold dear.
You are not S.A.F.E. sir.
Hmmm... I think I know who this is...
DeleteWhat gave me away? Real or S.A.F.E?
Delete"...sir..."
DeleteSeniors, Bikers, two turtle ducks . . .
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Noahs Ark
Free food. Free beer. Doesn't matter who the host was. Now Marty will just funnel the cost of the party back to his family biz. What a load of beans. The fact that Quaglione didn't make mention of Golden on any of his campaign lit speaks volumes. Golden is done and he knows it. No patronage hack Christmas part is going to bring him back now.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: THE “THIS CAN’T BE A COINCIDENCE” EDITION
ReplyDeleteSOMETIMES WILL BREDDERMAN SEEMS LIKE HE IS OBSESSED WITH STATE SENATOR GOLDEN’S BAY RIDGE MANOR CONNECTION
... BUT, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Maybe that’s what happened in yesterday’s “report” by Mr. B. (not to be confused with “Berardelli”) in Courier Life’s Brooklyn Daily (See “A tale of sugar plums and sour grapes” by Will Bredderman, 12/16/13, Courier Life/Brooklyn Daily [http://www.brooklyndaily.com/stories/2013/50/ww-republican-spat-2013-11-15-bk_2013_50.html]). What are the chances that a story about the Bay Ridge Manor, the Eaton-Golden spat and Christmas parties would come out on December 16th, the date of Marty Golden’s Happy Holidays Party at the Manor, and that it might merely have happened by accident ? The gist or grist of the Bredderman piece is that the State Senator Golden’s flap with Brooklyn Republican Leader Craig Eaton got its start over where to hold the GOP Holiday Party. In any case, the timing of Bredderman’s article almost seems impeccable for a hit piece, and nobody will convince me that it’s merely coincidental.
All the “reported” comments by the insiders were somewhat interesting, and the post-article comments might even have been better. It’s all certainly worth a look; and for me it’s an early Christmas present, as an “UPDATE” item with both relevance and content.
ANOTHER UPDATE: A NICE STORY ABOUT A NICE PARTY
ReplyDeleteAccording to to Paula Katinas reporting in the Brooklyn Eagle, hundreds packed into the Bay Ridge Manor for holiday festivities (See “Golden Times at Senator’s Holiday Party” by Paula Katinas, 12/17/13, Brooklyn Daily Eagle [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/golden-times-senator%E2%80%99s-holiday-party-2013-12-17-161]).
In part, the text by Paula K says that, “When state Sen. Marty Golden and his wife Colleen decided to throw a Christmas party, they invited a few of their friends. A few hundred, that is! ... *** ... Political figures, like Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-C-Bay Ridge-Staten Island) rubbed elbows with civic leaders, members of the clergy, business owners and local residents, all of whom came at the invitation of the Goldens. *** The guest list also reached beyond Bay Ridge. Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota was spotted in the crowd. John Burnett, who ran for comptroller, was also at the party. *** It’s highly unlikely that either of the Goldens had a chance to sit down that night! Both Goldens stood near the ballroom door and graciously greeted each person coming in. Several of the guests took the opportunity to ask Sen. Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southern Brooklyn) to pose for pictures with them next to a Christmas tree in the Bay Ridge Manor’s lobby....”
Oh no Galewyn.....it worked. You had a few free drinks and slices of turkey and now you and Marty of soul brothers.
ReplyDeleteTurkey AND Roast Beef AND Baked Ham AND Jumbo Shrimp...
DeleteThe deal wasn't closed, though; he didn't arrange for my lift home...
btw, get a grip... saying Marty Golden threw a successful bash hardly makes us soul brothers...
I was at the party yesterday and it was packed let me tell you everyone was there even members of the other Young Republicans club. The senator was gracious enough to invite everyone from all sides.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. I live in the district and never got the invite. Must have gotten lost in the mail...
DeleteWhat about the Official Young Republicans Club, any of their members there? Little birdies tell me that their club President never received an invite to the shindig, nor did the club as a whole. I would call that a snub, not a gracious invite to everyone....
DeleteI heard Gallo was there...
Deletewell the so-called official club had about three to four members there. of course the other club from 1880 the real official club they also had a lot of members there too.
DeleteWas that guy in the plaid sportcoat from the Home Reporter there?
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine just came back from Craig Eatons holiday party he said they did not have any good food really and it was about 60 or so people there. it's a shame we need to get more people. involved.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke Mary Henry....I just came back from the party myself....they had a lavish buffet, dj and dancing, wine and beverages and hundreds of people. Mary Henry you must be part of Golden's inner circle.....Marty needs to stop lying to people....I hear he is heading for some real trouble.....Mary why dont you pass that onto your group of Marty loyalists...I heard Gale was there....lets get his official report and prove Mary is a fake...
ReplyDeleteHey Gale, if you were there, pls report whether Mary Henry is correct....this cant be true..I heard it was one of the best parties the Brooklyn GOP has ever had...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone here really believe Marty WON'T be mentioned in the Moreland report? The end is nigh. Get all the jumbo shrimp while you can! And the ham. Oh, the ham.
ReplyDeleteGene stop it. Its just Ham. don't have a orgasm over it. 0h the orgasm.
ReplyDeleteAnthony Testaverde was very prominent at the Golden Party and notable by his complete absence from the Eaton event two nights later. Joseph Hayon seemed quite surprised and disappointed at Testaverde's complete turn to the Golden side.
ReplyDeleteOthers in Eaton's camp had predicted Mr. T's move long before the 2013 Brooklyn GOP Convention. Those folks believe that Testaverde is like broken glass and that his getting closer to State Senator MG will eventually harm the State Senator more than help.
We all can just wait and see, I suppose. However, since Election Day 2013, what we do know is that A.T. can't pull any kind of meaningful vote on the strength of his name or reputation.
You all are speaking of Anthony Testaverde like he is an important figure in the Brooklyn GOP - he is just another one of Golden's puppets, along with John Quaglione, and Marty's entire crew will soon taste defeat in 2014. That crooked old Senator is going down!
