“The Rest is Madness....” *

The 2013 County-wide Republican Campaign is about to come crashing down

For the GOP going forward, we might ALL have been better off if three or four weeks ago, the rest were silence

What should have been a rallying point for Republicans is about to be mired in charges that will seem to some as an outlandish overreach by unscrupulous Democrat opponents  —  And by others, as proof that the faction of the Brooklyn GOP influenced by State Senator Martin Golden, and Conservatives like Mike Long and Jerry Kassar, are simply unfit to lead anything in Brooklyn that is conservative or Republican. It remains to be seen if the GOP Mayoral Candidate Joe Lhota can move quickly enough to avoid being sucked under in the effluence.

Arguing whether this, that or the other is or is not a racist appeal, or anything like it, is nothing that the Brooklyn GOP or its leadership needs right now.

*The title above is from an often-quoted phrase that largely mimics Shakespeare’s “The rest is silence...” from Hamlet.  I have arbitrarily chosen to attribute it thus: (See “The Story of Redemption” from the “Theater of the Mind” [http://guam.net/home/wresch/stories/R_Wresch/RedemptStory.htm]). “What happened in the mind of Lucifer will always remain a mystery. But he somehow made the decision to rebel against his Creator, to try to usurp the place of God Himself. How could he hope to succeed? But sin is destructive, destructive of the mind. The rest is madness....”

  1. It needed to be said.
In the last 30 years in NYS we had a Republican Governor, Mayor, US Senator, Attorney General. After election day we will have nothing.

  2. Good item.

Odd that Hynes was left out. That campaign has been about race.
Not sure that'll work for Hynes.

  7. Bloomberg is following the Nelson Rockefeller path, and Lhota is Malcom Wilson.
Burn down the house as you leave.
Bloomberg would put money into a race in Chicago before hed give Lhota the time of day.

  8. Giuliani and Bloomberg steered clear of Mike Long.
    They won.

  9. It's to late for Lhota to do anything to turn this around.

  10. UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “SKY IS FALLING – THE SKY IS FALLING” EDITION

In these times, those Republicans who are able to keep their wits about them, while all those around them are losing theirs, just haven’t gotten the word.

The campaigns of the city-wide candidates, Lhota and Burnett have no traction whatsoever.

Yesterday, Lhota’s opponent hammered him in a web ad about income disparity in New York, saying that 46% of the NY City residents are below the poverty line and that New York City has the greatest gap of wealth and poverty in the whole country, and then showing a clip of Joe Lhota’s October 25th appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on a loop saying "I don't think it's a problem – I don't think it's a problem – I don't think it's a problem" (See “Lhota on Income Inequality: ‘I don't think it's a problem’" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8YR2_pWFcI&feature=youtu.be]). It was one of the most efficient hatchet jobs I have ever seen. What was the Lhota team’s response ? According to Liz Benjamin and Michael Howard Saul, “…a spokeswoman said Lhota “misspoke” when he said that.” (See “Extras” by Liz Benjamin, 10/25/13, YNN State of Politics [http://www.nystateofpolitics.com/2013/10/extras-903/]). BRILLIANT ! At the same time a pro-deBlasio PAC rolled out a million dollar ad buy that tied Joseph Lhota to the Tea Party and the radical Republicans that shut down the government, complete with video of Lhota addressing the Tea Party. Meanwhile, according to Ms. Liz in her “Extras” post, for one of his big newsmakers of the day, Lhota was doing a “meet and greet” at a Queens bar with only ten days left until Election Day .... Oh, and deBlasio raised about five times the cash ( 5x $$$$) as Lhota did in the most recent reporting period.

Are you sensing a Lhota upset in ten days as strongly as I am ? I’m sure that you are....

The county-wide fiasco of the Hynes campaign continues at about the same pace – a drip, drip, drip of reports about various inappropriate comments about Hynes’ opponent Ken Thompson and Thompson’s alleged supporters. This time, it involves an e-mail conversation between Hynes and Hynes’ Republican “friend” Sol Wachtler (the former top judge in New York State, a convicted felon and a Hynes contributor). In the e-mail, Wachtler allegedly used an offensive a slang term that a Hynes spokesperson claimed the DA probably didn’t understand [This report appeared in the Jewish Anti-pedophile blog – “Failed Messiah.com” – but I didn’t completely cite it because I believe its title is a mis-portrayal of Hynes’ part in the e-mail communication from Wachtler]). Nonetheless, repeated stories like these are just no good at all for the GOP county-wide effort this year.

  11. I have a question - Gale I copied the contribution records for John Quag and it shows that Tim Cochrane only gave pennies to his nephewinlaw, yet he is listed as retired....doesnt he own a hot dog franchise and a building maintenance company? If he works for these two companie how can he claim he is retired? If there something going on there? Maybe someone should look into it....a man who wants to be Chair engaging in less than honest activities by claiming he is retired when he isnt?

  13. UPDATE: THE “THIS ALL HAD BETTER BE A DEMOCRAT DIRTY TRICK OR WE HAVE REAL PROBLEMS” EDITION

BUZZFEED COVERAGE OF THE WACHTLER-HYNES E-MAILS SHOWS EVERYBODY WHAT IS THERE AND WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT

According to a very lengthy report by Ms. Ruby Kramer in the not very liberal blog BuzzFeed, “Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes used his government email account to plot campaign strategy with his political allies, one of whom appeared to use a racial slur in a message to Hynes that is now at the center of a dispute....” (See “Strategy And A Slur In Disputed ‘Hynes Emails’ ” by Ruby Kramer, 10/26/13-10/27/13, BuzzFeed/ Politics [http://www.buzzfeed.com/rubycramer/strategy-and-a-slur-in-hynes-emails] [ >>> PLEASE N.B. <<< THAT THE BUZZFEED POST CLOSES WITH THE FOLLOWING PROVISO ! ! ! ! : “Note: This article has been updated to include [Sol] Wachtler’s denial of the authenticity of the email in which the racial slur is used. The article has also been updated to reflect that the Hynes campaign, which did not contest the now-contested email and distanced itself from Wachtler Saturday, Sunday suggested the email may not be valid. (10/27/13)”]).

The BF post includes a photographic image of the alleged initial e-mail from Sol Wachtler to DA Hynes and an alleged reply from Hynes to Wachtler , with an alleged attached e-mail about the Hynes campaign ( >>> btw, the attached e-mail from Jonathan V. Yedin really looks like some good news – GM <<<) and a Wachtler sur-reply to Hynes .
