There is nothing in the filing to indicate whether there was any problem with the donation or any other explanation why the contribution was being returned. Nor is there any reason or explanation why it took between seven (7) months and fourteen-plus (14+) months for Golden and/or his Committee Treasurer to determine that these refunds to these donors was necessary or advisable.

However, it is interesting that all of the donors who received refunds were also listed as top donors to State Senator Martin Golden by Project Vote Smart (See “Senator Martin 'Marty' J. Golden's Campaign Finances” by  Project Vote Smart [http://votesmart.org/candidate/campaign-finance/44377/martin-golden#.UgxdJ9Koqik]).  What follows is the total donation amount by the donors to the Golden’s campaign committee that were also listed as receiving refunds according to the Friends of Martin Golden filings:

CENTURY 21 DEPARTMENT STORES–  $20,000.00 [top of listed donors]
GOLKIN, DEWEY–  $19,500.00 [second among listed donors]
NEW YORK STATE ASSOC OF WHOLESALE
MARKETERS & DISTRIBUTORS–  $17,500.00 [third among listed donors]
SCHWARTZ, LEONARD–   $17,500.00 [fourth among listed donors]

GMD SHIPYARD–  $10,150.00 [twelfth among listed donors]
MORAN, MARGUERITE–   $8,500.00 [not in top twenty among listed donors]
DONOFRIO GEN CONTRS CORP–  $7,000.00 [not in top twenty among listed donors]
ASM MECHANICAL SYSTEMS–  $5,000.00 [not in top twenty among listed donors]

This series of ten (10) refunds, totaling  $35,725.00, by State Senator Golden’s committee represents something that wasn’t done before. If anybody has an insight or explanation for any of this, please, let me know what that is by commenting below.

  1. Marty and Kassar know the jig is up.

They are trying, but it is too late to cover up.

They will be brought up on charges by The United States Government.

The same way Malcolm Smith and the rest of the corrupt politicians of all parties

  2. Why would any politician refung $35k to contributors unless there was some conflict of interest?

    This could be big.

Trust me there are lots of operatives/insurgents scrutinizing these disclosure statements...

  3. f you looked at the Project Vote Smart Blog, you'd have seen that Golden got $10,000 directly from Dean Skelos who from day one backed a Democrat Simcha Felder against an incumbent Republican State Senator named David Storobin. Then after Kassars Conservatives lost an OTB primary, they quickly rolled over to the Skelos man, Felder, even though their original designated nominee Storobin was still on the ballot.

Storobin is still running with the group that was opposed to him in 2012 against those who backed him until the end in 2012, because he has cement for brains and a brick for a heart.

    1. You are all stupid blogs, here. Conservative Chairman Jerzy Kazar makes his good position for David Storobin’s and is saying this here in the >>Common Sense<< in the >>Reporters<< and the >>Spectators<< newspapers –
      >>Former Conservative-Republican State Senator David Storobin seems to be gaining strength in his campaign to replace Councilmember Mike Nelson who is term limited. Storobin is running for a seat that represents Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay as well as parts of Midwood and Madison-Marine. He has raised near the maximum amount allowed under the campaign finance law and is aggressive in both his retail politics and press.
Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota has held numerous events with Storobin in recognition of David’s immense strength in the large Russian/Republican community. State Senator Marty Golden, whose Senate seat overlaps a large part of the council seat, has also been putting in time helping David out.
There is a four-way Democratic primary that can best be described as unpredictable in outcome. Regardless, Storobin who is carrying the Independence Party endorsement as well as the Republican and Conservative endorsements, will be formidable in November.<<

  4. Storobin is a waste - he cant decide who his friends are - and is nothing but an opportunist.
He was supported by the Brooklyn GOP for the race against Kruger and Kassar and Golden were wiht him..until Kruger got handcuffs, and then Kassar and Golden threw him under the bus...But the Brooklyn GOP stayed with him and he won. As soon as he won he went to bed with Kassar and Golden who didnt want him to win. Albeit he won by 13 votes and served five hours as a senator but he won. THEN Kassar and Golden back a Democrat, Felder, against Storobin and he then hates Golden and Kassar and blames his loss on his trusted campaign manager, the one and only Liam McCabe. Then, as soon as he loses this race, we goes to bed with Kassar, Golden and McCabe, who were against him in his Senate loss, to help him run for Council. He was a Russian in his first race; an Orthodox Jew in his second race, and he is the puppet of hims now-handlers in the third race...when he loses this race, he will be over in politics. Time to take out the law books again. But David, who are your real friends? Do you have ANY? What a loser you are. Gregory Davidzon is the king in Brighton....you were kings for five hours....

  5. We will certainly be watching who "contributes" to RFC over the next few filings.

Can't help but wonder if some of that refunded money will wind up in the RFC PAC since they are in debt to the tune of $15K...

  6. UPDATE: According to Board of Election records [http://www.elections.ny.gov:8080/plsql_browser/CONTRIBUTORB_ZIP], during the 2012 election cycle, Dewey Golkin (of 43 80th Street*), one of State Senator Martin Golden’s largest individual contributors, made two separate donations to “Friends of Martin Golden”: a schedule “A” contribution in the amount $10,000 was made on November 8, 2011 which appeared on the January 2012 Periodic filing; and another schedule “A” contribution in the amount $10,000 was made on October 6, 2012 which appeared on the 2012 Pre-general filing. Prior to that Mr. Golkin had made two separate donations of $5,000, one in October 2002 and another in November 2009. Based upon what is disclosed in the main post above, on July 3, 2013, $9,200 of the October 6, 2012 contribution of $10,000 was returned to Mr. Golkin by State Senator Golden’s committee and a filing reflecting that refund was made at that time.

  7. Maybe it's just a mistake.

You all are hanging Senator Golden and Mr, Kassar without letting them speak and I feel this is wrong.

I think the proper thing to do if he your Senator is to Email him and ask them Mr. Golden and Mr. Kassar for an explanation.

Mr. Golden was elected by us and he should address this to us the people that voted him into office this is the American way I think and hope, or is their another procedure I don't know of.

    1. What mistake are you talking about ? Accepting the money ? Refunding the money ? Making an improper filing ? Making multiple improper filings ? All of the above ? None of the above ?

Besides, what does Kassar have to do with any of this ? I didn't mention Kassar, who is employed as State Senator Golden's Chief of Staff, in connection with the contributions returned by "Friends of Martin Golden," an election committee with an address at 125 Labau Avenue, Staten Island, NY. that is completely outside State Senator Golden's District. Kassar was mentioned in a few of the comments that had nothing to do with the subject of my post or my comment above.

You seem to have more knowledge about all of this than you are letting on. Like I said above, what mistake are you talking about ?

  8. He is a human like we all are.

Human's make mistakes and if so my bible tells me to forgive those that do.

Rule 7 Thou Shall Not Steal.

If Marty did do this he and Mr. Kassar will be the ones that suffer, not you or me Gale.

    1. What is the "this" you are talking about ?

The post above is about the recent return of $35,725.00 in campaign donations by "Friends of Martin Golden" and a general question as to why that was done --- later, as an UPDATE, some detail was given about the donations from one contributor that had received a refund.

If there is anything wrong with any of this, please let us all know with a comment.
