Whether it’s running a sound truck for GOP candidates on election day; speaking out against Brooklyn College’s anti-Israel BDS Conference; repeatedly being quoted in the NY Post about taxes and other matters; appearing on Fox News; or speaking on the phone or in front of meetings of the Brooklyn Tea Party — Glenn Nocera let’s everybody know that there are some “Young” Republicans still active in Brooklyn and that he is one of them, as well as their titular leader
This morning Glenn was talking taxes as a member of a panel with Host Steve Doocy on Fox and Friends [...foxnews.com/on-air/fox-friends/.../how-higher-taxes-are-impacting-americans/...]; over the weekend it was a Facebook message from the President of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club to the President of Brooklyn College Karen Gould protesting the planned anti-Israel BDS Conference, co-sponsored by the Brooklyn College Poli-Sci Dept.; last Thursday it was speaking via telephone hook-up to a meeting of the Brooklyn Tea Party; and the week before it was an interview about taxes that appeared in the Sunday Post (that led to today’s Fox & Friends appearance). Late last year it was things like a feature article in the NY Post about the Brooklyn Young Republican Club and an election night gig on an independent news program. Going forward, it’s trying to match YR Club schedules with those of a few of the mayoral candidates seeking Republican support in Brooklyn and wanting to speak at an “independent” Republican Club.
Of course, a lot of what Glenn does as President of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club is routine and administrative -- some times tedious, and some times immediate and emergent -- always taxing. Things like scheduling meetings and speakers, and arranging a venue that is attractive to prospective new members (and old, as well), available and amenable to a "Republican" political meeting isn't always easy. Keeping the webpage and blog space up-and-running takes time; and cooperation with the technical guys in the club is essential. Even annual "fun" events like the Christmas and Channukah party, and the Cyclone's Baseball night at Keyspan Park require a lot of preparation and follow-up.
Even though Glenn has always been open and honest about how he goes about his politics in the Republican Party in Brooklyn, there is a cadre among the Brooklyn Republican establishment that keeps slamming him for his independent and spontaneous efforts to advance Republican candidates in Brooklyn and elsewhere, and to polish the GOP brand in Brooklyn by means of the independent Brooklyn Young Republican Club.
Nonetheless, if living well is the best revenge, Nocera can point out that both he and the Brooklyn Young Republican Club have done very well since being completely severed by the Kings County Republican leadership. “Since then, our overall situation has improved and theirs has not....” What more need’s saying ?
